  1. I'm pretty sure 'deluded' is the last thing you could call Berwick fans at the moment; we've all been realistic about the position the club is in, and aware of the downward curve the club had been on a while. If you go back to the first two pages you'll find a post or two that mention being chuffed if we got 8th or 9th this season.

No one could have foreseen a run of form quite like the one we are on right now (7 points from 66 if I recall correctly), delusion it is not.

Also, if what @Chris_the_rover says is true (and I have no reason to doubt him), we have another piece of evidence pointing towards Johnny Harvey not being cut out for management in League football (or LL football for that matter).

  2. Liverpool - Ajax would be my preferred matchup out of the four available (enjoy seeing both teams play), although Barcelona - Ajax would be golden due to both clubs being associated with Cruijff; imagine what a wonderful hommage they could conjure up. If I can't get either of those matchups, then give me Liverpool - Spurs, please.

Anyway, Liverpool is becoming a tad scary in that they seem to no longer have any weak spots in there team, at least not any that are discernible to me. Have to give Klopp credit, regardless of what you think of LFC as a club.

On a final note, I'd take the odds bookies are currently giving on Spurs progressing to the final in a heartbeat. Absolute no-brainer. For all of the hype the Amsterdam side is getting, I find it hard to see past Spurs - will still be cheering loudly for Ajax, mind you.

But it would still be on the CV

Now is surely not the time to be arguing semantics. No club is gonna refuse to take on a manager because he unsuccesfully helmed Berwick Rangers for all of three games when the wagons were already off the rails. If anything, if I was a club director involved in the hiring process, I would commend the fella for having taken the challenge

If JH doesn’t want a relegation ( and the one hardest to bring a team back from) on his CV, why would anyone parachuted in take the risk that they wouldn’t be able to galvanise an awful group of players and have the same relegation on their CV?

No one is gonna blame a manager who came in with three matches to play, inheriting a squad that won one game in 20+ matches.

How do the berwick fans feel about Harvey being given the job over Kevin Harper as they wanted somone with more experience

A wee, wee, WEE bit silly, really.

There's no telling if things would indeed have ended up differently, but I would gladly bet the farm on it in hindsight. Rovers can breathe a deep, deep sigh of relief and Harper can have the last laugh. Maybe if we ask nicely he can turn off the lights at Shielfield.

  6. Happy to keep all four of those lads, really. Think McIlduff is absolutely fine for this level (League 2, even more so LL) of football, Cook and Healy too. Rose hasn't had the best of luck but he is young and helps with squad depth - eager to see him develop further.

And yeah, chuck JH out now. Please guys. It's okay to admit we were all wrong - let him go so he needn't have the relegation on his CV and we can make space for someone who might galvanize the squad. It's just not working.

  7. The NHS finally let my Doctor Missus take a few days off work so I had her in my ancestral home on the continent, making me miss out on the nail-biting run-up to the game and, indeed, the game itself through it coinciding with our National holiday. Glad to know I was saved the misery of getting battered and fried 0 to 3 by a club that, for all intents and purposes, should have been confirmed down already in January but achieved a remarkable revival through their own efforts (nothing but applause for Rovers).

It's hardly apathy I feel, but a certain degree of helplessness and reservation seems to be my part now. Even if Cove drub us 4-0 in the first leg I'm still not sure Harvey would be shown the door, although at that point it really, finally, is too late. Now with Elgin on the horizon we may well have our final dead cat bounce to instill false hope ahead of the trapdoor square-off. Cove will have learned from their previous mistakes v. Cowden and JH seems to have well and truly lost the dressing room (if he hadn't already).... we're heading for dark times.

One more thing, which is probaly entirely pointless for me to type; if (big if) we survive, it will be despite JH, not because of him. Nothing against him as a person but he should not be allowed to claim any credit. But hey, as I said; typing this out will be proven to be pointless.

EDIT; *Cove or East Kilbride; I erroneously believed the match finished 0-2 in Cove's favour.

Cheers buddy. Will you be there? If so, I'd like you to buy you a beer, win lose or draw; you're easily one of the best posters on this site :)

I really appreciate your praise, even if I'm still not sure whether you actually exist! The 27th was quite possibly the worst date for this match to be played for me (Dutch national day, my birthday on the 25th and resulting family obligations), so I can't be around; rather, it would seem my next day in the Shielfield sun will sadly be on the 18th of May....

Not sure if this is the place given the serious nature of the thread, but will chance my arm anyway.

What's the script with drink at Shielfield nowadays? Is the Black and Gold club open, or the bar in the Main Stand? There's likely to be a quite a few thirsty Coatbridge folks in the area on Saturday.

Both should be open but expect long queues because the only way we are going to enjoy the day is by downing copious amounts of hard liquor.
