Very much going off memory here, but I'm sure McGurn had been dropped for a few weeks (murmurings that with him being part time, McGlynn wanted the full time keeper?) there was no doubt who was the better keeper in my eyes, but likewise I wasn't surprised when he wasn't starting that day.

Mcgurn was dropped in the January I think after having a howler against Falkirk.

Can't agree with your first point here, but wholeheartedly agree with your second.

I saw no lack of effort or endeavour, but we perpetually lost two key battles all afternoon, both of which were down to players being asked to play out of position.

Scott Brown at centre half and Kyle Turner were given an absolutely torrid time by the movement and physicality of Moult and Watt. They were getting change from Brown when they competed in the backline, and change from Turner when they dropped off.

Ian Murray has some mitigation in playing Brown in that he's done it in more than half of our games this season, but why he thought Turner was the best option in the base of the midfield completely baffles me. And it's particularly galling that the best way to solve both of those problems only involves making one change.

If Keith Watson starts that game alongside Euan Murray, and Scott Brown plays in midfield, that's a totally different game. We might still loss it, who knows, but the two key weaknesses that United exploited today disappear.

The overriding emotion for me after that is disappointment. It's football, and United are a good side, so a defeat was always a distinct possibility, but the Rovers were hamstrung from the outset by the line-up and never recovered.

I certainly don't mean there was a lack of effort as such from the Rovers today, but Utd looked like a team who knew they had to win today.  Perhaps difference in intensity is a more apt description.

Don't agree about hindsight being a wonderful thing. Anyone who’s seen us in the last few months must surely know that Hamilton is far better at holding the ball up, which is what you need in this scenario. That’s foresight, as is not playing Kyle Turner as a six. Mind boggling.

In fairness, we could have started Shaun Byrne and Jack Hamilton and still lost, but there’s no chance we’d have been worse than we were today.

To not lay a glove on a team which has been struggling for weeks is a massive opportunity lost.

Aye, most folk around us and on here called that team selection out at 2pm as being not good enough - and that transpired throughout the entire game.

I think Utd would still have probably won that, they were far better on the day, but its another opportunity that has needlessly been thrown in the bucket.

  4. I did feel that today was the first time in the 4 meetings this season where there was a considerable gap between the sides.  The main difference was the hunger and desire, United absolutely bullied us today.  I think our points total in those games, and in general this season is pretty generous - but I was really surprised and disappointed at how far off it we were.

Really disappointed with some of the fans today.  Saw coins being thrown at Watt after the goal, and there was a lad behind me who was happy to boast at being a Dundee fan.  The fact someone like him got a ticket today and some Rovers fan didnt, is poor show.

It's not over by any means - I don't doubt the possibility of Utd dropping points in the run in - but its asking a lot for that Rovers side to go on a consistent winning run I think.  Failure to take advantage of Utd dropping points to Morton, Partick and Dunfermline in recent weeks is ultimately our undoing I fear.

  5. Murray made an absolute arse of this game.  From calling United rattled in the press (crazy, I'm not saying that won the game for them, but daft to go saying that - and Utd were certainly fired up for it) to an awful team selection - and not really adjusting the glaring omission during the game.

Not playing any of Brown, Byrne or Matthews in the midfield was ridiculous.  If, for whatever reason, you persist with that, you simply have to play Hamilton up top so that there is some kind of avenue to retain possession.  We've regained some momentum by becoming hard to beat - to throw that out of the window in a game where it was most needed - mental.  As was dropping Matthews who has consistently been man of the match since his return.

Don't get me wrong, United were far better today - however we never gave ourselves a chance with that lineup.  Biggest game, in a season that is the biggest opportunity to gain promotion for the best part of 30 years - and thats the starting line up.  Awful stuff.

There is a long way to, however that feels like another significant game in the run in gone where we've dropped points.

There is a lot said about our strength and depth - but I'm not convinced that our squad size is necessarily a good thing.  It could be argued that it gives the manager to much options and scope to make changes for changes sake - rather than basics like playing defenders in defence, or holding centre midfielders playing a holding role.  I kind of feel like the signing of Turner fits into this.  A good play in his own right, but a player we didn't need, in an area we didn't need - and then played in a game like this in a position where he doesn't add value.

There were a few Barcelona remakes floating about on ebay, they were decent to be fair. I got one but it was too big for me so punted it on, haven't seen them since.

From my own shitty internet research Spall made us kits from 1985 to 1993, although due to changing sponsors every season it equates to 4 different designs.

We've seen 2 out of 4 in what appears to be ascending order from a design point of view. Would guess that the  navy with white sleeves would be next and then the league winning kit.

I've got one of the Barca remakes and it's superb quality.

  7. I think Rovers were perfectly entitled to feel aggrieved.  Dundee United and or Police Scotland have dealt with far bigger away support than 1.3k at Tannadice, so any safety concerns are absolute nonsense.  We have a farcical situation where there will be thousands of empty seats at the biggest game this season, yet fans unable to attend.

That said, I was pretty dissapointed with the Rovers last week.  There wasn't any need for anything other than the initial statement.  Posting the Dundee Utd ticket office number was just a wee bit petty and needless, and pushed the problem to staff at Utd who were not to blame.  And I didn't really like the way the club have been in the media the past week or so.

A lot of the work done this season has been superb, and generally the social media stuff has been good natured banter - but i didn't love how they reacted to last week to be honest.

United pulling a fast one over tickets, but I would say it looks like the Rovers fans have only got their board and social media team to blame for that.  They’ve clearly been so crass and deliberate to get right under Uniteds skin.  It’s very petty of United, but then as many on here have already said, that’s their prerogative.

Was listening to Shaughan on the terrace podcast talk about it and he made a good point about the Rovers statement on it all.  It wasn’t a conciliatory “hope to sort out” message more of a “these lot are at it and get it up them”.  Which hasn’t helped any case they would have wanted to push to get more tickets.  The public tit for tat that’s followed has been lacking in class from both clubs leaderships, but it does make for a tantalising watch for the neutral.

Dare I say in the cold light of day, maybe the Rovers board are more than happy adding to a “siege mentality” with this ploy?  Add some more pressure to the United team with a more partisan but edgy crowd?  If it backfires though, would expect some Rovers fans to be pretty quick to turn on them for causing them to miss a massive fixture.

On the whole, I disagree completely with clubs charging more for some games than others in the same competition, cutting and shifting away fan allocation, and any ridiculous attempted stunts such as the one by United earlier in the season of trying to charge £27 because it was the “allocated amount for the stand given to away support” (remember that one before they switched it back to the shed for a £2 discount?).

Aye as some say - during Covid clubs giving it the “aw we need you, all fans are lifeblood” yet 4 years later almost every club in this league have at some point ignored that mantra for competitive or cash grabbing aims.

As for the game, Rovers to edge it.  Cant see past them as Uniteds team are a bloody shambles of a lot right now.

There's a lot of decent points there.  It's the Rovers fans who have lost out in all of this.

Picked one of these up on Gumtree the other week. Barely used and was £140. My son has one, so I know its decent.

Was starting to get fucked off with individual pedals so this works for me.

No interested in their prestored patches, I have just dialed in my own preferences for the preamp/compressor/od/rev/delay and pick and choose depending on what I am doing.

I can't cope without multi effects now.  I have one "normal" pedal which is an overdrive, but other than that I'm using multi effects or in built amp effects for anything chorus/delay/reverb related.  Far less faff particularly when playing live.

I bought one of these on the cheap to get me through a few gigs about 7 years ago and haven't looked back since.

  10. Fucking mental to think where the club was 2 years ago in the wake of that particular incident. If you said then that we'd be dissapointed at getting 1.4k tickets for a game at Tannadice,  that would be very hard to believe.

To be worried about if we win a title or not is a huge leap forward from worrying about if the club would ever be the same or not ever again.

  11. Given our real inability to take advantage of Utd slip ups, I'm still a bit doubtful over our credentials to get ourselves over the line.  If we were to beat Utd then win the game in hand then I'd say we are a decent bet, but in reality I think it's going to be too close to call.

The speed at which we went from absolutely cruising to being 3-2 down to that god awful Arbroath side really does make it difficult to be too buoyant yet.

100% agree, however, what United's result today does is mean there is 0% pressure on us to do anything next week. Yes, a win would be lovely for us... United NEED to win.

So much pressure on United for next week. Let's see how they do.

There's certainly a bit of pressure on us.  It's the best chance to win this league for over a decade and for who knows how long.  People need to forget about it being United, the chance here is absolutely huge.

  13. Such a strange stance from United.  There isn't a fundamental advantage to be gained from preventing 600 odd fans from attending.  I'd actually understand it if they gave a tiny allocation, but the difference overall to atmosphere between 1.4k and 2k is fairly minimal.  And I'd have zero problems if they wanted to give tickets to their own fans instead, but that isn't the case.

The only thing I can think of is if the police have insisted on an increased presence there isn't a substantial gap between sets of fans,  and Utd have thought that isn't worth the hassle or cost.  But that's a stretch.
