If Denholm is to leave Arbroath in the summer , should we take him back or not.

No. Twice is enough. Might be a bit petty of me but not keen on "defectors" returning from Gayfield.

Not for me either, we were good to him giving him his chance in senior football and didn't stand in his way when full time football became possible. When it went pear shaped we took him back. He then signed for our rivals.

I remember at the Jim Weir introductory evening the question was posed by the grandfather of a young fan who hero worshipped Denholm as to whether we may try to get him back. JW's response was "I think we can do a bit better than Danny Denholm". I couldn't agree more.

  2. When Bollan left we were all relieved, he was simply not the right fit for us (although I had a few pleasant chats with him during his tenure and bumped into him recently at the Raith game and have to admit I like the guy on a personal level).

So we appointed Jim Weir, at the time not my choice. I went to the meeting with him and the fans and listened to him and liked what I heard, particularly the longer term plan of four signing windows to build his team. It looks like he's done it in three as we now have a squad with quality in the goal, the defence, midfield, up front and on the bench. We even play a lot of very attractive football and the current eight home wins on the bounce is very pleasing. Hats off to James Weir, any doubts I had about his appointment are gone. Personally I rate him above Dick, who I loved and still admire, and maybe he'll be up there with Archie Knox, Alex Rae and Doug Houston at some point.

Tell me all the games he has excelled in this season and last....lets see the list?

I only want to see players who are willing to give their all for the club......nothing wrong with that surely?

Over the years i have seen a lot of players 'picked on' some correctly but others not so...take Yano for example, a section of our support couldn't see he was one of our best Left backs since TC and more importantly always gave 100%

Templeman another joy to watch and going further back Raymond Lorimer was a guy who was hounded but bust a gut every week.

As i say Easton should be in behind Hilson, any place else is a waste of a shirt.

This is truly painful to admit but I agree with every word of this post. I would normally rate tbs as a havering hoor and very rarely agree with him on here (i.e I never rated Kerr Hay).

Easton is a pleasure to watch at times but is more often infuriating with his showing off and being ball greedy. Don't get me started on his feigning injury and diving....

PS tBS, thankyou for comments about Temps, Lorimer and Yano, the negativity towards them was as infuriating as the idolisation of Easton. Don't get me wrong, I don't want him to go but I wish he'd grow up.

  5. Without doubt Easton is our most skilled player and can turn a game but he infuriates me with his feigning injury, his discipline, his diving and how ball greedy he is. It's going to be a tight division this season with every team likely beating each other at some point so we need a stable hard working team, emphasis on team. Dylan is maybe a luxury we can live without?

A wee question for you. My grandfather's family were from Forfar and there has always been the story in the family that one of his brothers played for The Loons.  Do you guys have a club history which includes all games, teams etc? If so, I'd be grateful if someone could check if Alec (or Alex) Glen who lived in Gallowshade,  played for Forfar in the 1920s or 1930s? I'd be interested to know if he did indeed play for the club.

According to fitbastats.com there was a Glen played for us in season 1922/23 and 1925/26. There is a question mark regarding his first name. I vaguely remember a Glen family in Gallowshade (I lived there until I was 10), I'll ask my mum at the weekend when I see her.

I know you guys have been to Dumbarton before but just a wee reminder, the Rock BC is just 50yds by the stadium and we have Sky Sports in every room for the footy and you are more than welcome to come down for pre match drinks. Hope to see you on Saturday.

Alternatively, if you guys fancy some free, live music then make your way to the home end bar in the stadium (accessible through the home turnstiles) :P

Dumbarton publicans bartering business on the Forfar thread. Is this good or just sad?

Just had a chance to see post match Jim Weir interview.

Very strong vote of confidence for Andy Munro and also Whyte.   With Fraser still to come in  who will be dropped once injuries and suspensions are clear?

Looking again at the 3 goals we lost.

1st.  Vitoria beats Meechan?  far too easily and scuffs a shot towards McCallum who inexplicably fails to gather and Conroy knocks it in.

2nd.  A hopeful  upfield punt towards McIntosh  with our GK and back 4 in position. McIntosh scores.

3rd. Shot from inside the box beats McCallum at his near post.

Playing nice football is O.K. if there is an end result but we were done with 3 punts up the park which we couldn't deal with.

I can't argue with any of that.

Meechan looks quite comfortable on the ball but I haven't seen a meaningful tackle from him yet and he is out paced by most opposition forwards. McCallum is having a real drop in form, losing goals that he wouldn't have last season.

I like Whyte a lot and Andy Munro too, though maybe not rating him as highly as JW. He has a presence though both physically and his personality so is an asset. I haven't seen enough of Fraser yet but I have seen Willie Muir and maybe big Marc needs dropping at least until he's sorted out why he's off the boil, we have two properly good keepers so why play one who is currently and uncharacteristicly prone to mistakes?

Getting a proper preseason seems to have done Easton the world of good, he's looking really sharp. It speaks volumes when opposition fans are clapping him off just wish some of our fans would cut him some slack. The boy is some talent for this level.

I agree, he is a very talented player, one of, if not the, most skilful players in our division. I just wish he would get over himself and remember it's a team game. He's capable of making killer passes but he prefers to beat several players then take them on again by which time the opposition has crowded him out.

A proper Forfar Athletic kit that is, no more of this dark/navy blue dominant colour. We may not like being called the Sky Blues but we love our Sky blue.

It's really only "traditional" since the 70s though is it not ? The darker blue combos are more historical.

Aye, you're making a fair point, what the Forfar Boys Club wear is most like our original strips but no one is still living that watched them play in those. Like TBS states, the sky blue is more 70s which is when I started going up regular with my Dad. For most over 40 and under 90 that is the traditional colour most associated with us.

Kerr Hay released by Montrose, do you think anyone on here would want him back at Forfar?
    image.jpeg.53f103f52bac54b87a55270b10d9ade3.jpeg

No. Turned out GB was quite right on one thing at least.

Agreed, I wasn't suggesting he should return just fishing a certain individual on here (TBS) who was distraught when he was released and considered him a footballing God.

Hay, I thought, had the potential to be a decent player but never seemed to get a decent run.

Kerr has ability but I've heard his attitude and discipline are not conducive to a good dressing room. He didn't get a run when he was with Forfar either, he had one major fan among the Loons support (some say Kerr was his b*****d child) but wasn't rated by pretty much everyone else.

  13. Dick is a dinosaur living in a PC digital world. That's not a criticism of him, far from it, (I'm still a huge fan of him even though he's your gaffer)but a criticism of a sport where all involved should wear their heart on their sleeve like Dick does. Unfortunately referees, in particular, appear to be shielded from criticism and question.

I was less than impressed with The Courier today, the "headline" could have suggested DC was giving up football until you read the article.

Two sides to the Swankie coin. He's obviously more experienced at a higher level than a lot of the boys, but he's obviously a well known petulant wee shite. If DC is confident he can manage him, then he could be an asset. I'd like to think our dressing room is strong enough that he wouldn't be able to influence them negatively, and if he did I'd hope he would get weeded out

Good post, remember Swanks came to us following a strop he took at Arbroath very similar to the strop he just threw at Station Park. I know Dick likes and rates him but openly admitted in the past he was very difficult to manage.

Dick must rate him, did he not make swankie his captain at forfar???

Gary made him captain, not Dick, in a futile attempt to get him to play on form week in week out.

Nah, Gav would just sulk and be a pain in the arse until he was gone, a leopard rarely changes it's spots, defensive cover needs to be addressed first

    The likely scenario /\

I have mixed feelings about this, sorry to see the man who scored both goals in our only victory over Rangers but glad to see an overpaid lazy player with a childish attitude go.

It would not surprise me if Gav Swankie asked for a transfer fae the fermers and i for one would welcome him back home to Gayfield for his final few years in senior fitba.

DC would get the best out of him plus it would be good to renew the Doris/Swanks partnership, we need one more forward to join Doris/Prunts/Skelly/Hester.

The rumour in Forfar last week was he asked to be released but was told no chance as he'd wanted his very long contract (rumoured to have a must play condition) so should honour it. The story goes he says he'll "retire" from the game until his contract is up if Bollan stays. I don't know if this is real but time will tell, he was hinting on social media when Dick was appointed at Gayfield he'd be joining imminently but that didn't happen so could be a load of crap. He didn't play like he wanted away during the playoffs.

i see many of you think TOB will play at CB, trust me, and the Cowden guys will confirm, he's a decent CB but a great midfielder. All joking apart, I really thought he'd go to a bigger club.

    He is in magaluf also

I hope he wasn't in any karaoke bars.

All joking aside, Dick will be with you next season I'm sure. All the best to him and Arbroath next season. Hopefully you guys and us survive in League 1 and Montrose come up - and if Brechin come back down....
