Not to beat this to death but I too was surprised that Doolan landed a Championship team, even a part time one. With the money flying around some of the junior teams at the moment I expected him to turn up there.
That said, he's a good guy, a good pro, and I was disappointed it just didn't get going for him at Ayr. Hopefully Dick Campbell can get a good return from him.

Its not like Alloa and Arbroath are paying these guys £50 a week.

Top SP Part time players don't make that much less football money than some of the full time guys now adays.

Plus with Doolan having come from the Juniors he likely doesn't want to head back down to that sort of level if he doesn't need to.

And how has any of that raised the standard of Scottish football on a European and world stage? How far have these teams gone when they play any European games?

My concern is for Scottish football in general and the introduction of the smaller leagues began the decline. Time was when Scottish teams could compete in Europe and internationally. That wasn't when they played each other 4 times in the league. There have been the odd exceptions of course, but over the years teams outwith the Old Firm have tended not to get very far in European competition and the National team have failed on so many fronts.

As for the Lichties, we have had an outstanding season, so much better than we could have expected and thoroughly deserved by the players and all at Gayfield. Next season, whenever that may be, will be a testing time to see if we can maintain the standards set over the past few months. I, for one, would be happy to see us maintain our Championship place over the next few seasons and become a permanent fixture in the Championship.

Would say the decline was more caused by the breakaway that was the SPL which then meant the money everyone under the premier league got was less so in the years since, most clubs have cut squad size so reserve teams disappeared then after that clubs then slowly stopped running unders teams.

Thats whats really killed the standard of football in Scotland.

as part-time team, your market can be sign the best players from other divisions, or who live/work in Angus...

someone from montrose (ballantyne or allan), or the GK from forfar (mccallum played well season 18/19)

wallace and murdoch from east fife could make a job....

with a narrow squad some player who can play in different places.

but the most important it will be find the ideal loan players

No disrespect to McCallum but he wouldn't get a game ahead of either of our 2 present keepers.

Also no one knows when football may restart and what players may or may not be up for grabs at that point.

But whatever happens Im sure DC will make sure we have a squad that can hold their own again!

P.S Hopefully the 4 Angus clubs all come out the other side from this.

Dundee's pitch was flooded 4 days ago, how would it dry out under a cover?

It would dry out by making sure no more water was added to the saturated ground as any other rain would have been funnelled or swept away from the playing surface by the cover.

Pretty poor show that a team with the 3rd best pitch a few seasons ago can't workout a plan to stop their pitch turnig into a paddy field.

Not wanting any praise for competing against full time teams. Actually frustrates me a bit when you read, see and hear that in the media all the time. There are benefits to both at this level and nobody seems to appreciate that in the media. We're the underdogs every week when a lot of the time I actually think we have better players.

Anyway, I'll keep to discussion about the game now.

Would think alot of teams in this league would happily take our keeper and back 4.

Anyway hopefully we can beat Ayr Saturday then it's only Dundee left to do the clean sweep of beating ever team in the league.

Think its obvious we were needing some more creativity and threat going forward instead of relying on Linn evergame, Very happy with the signings, Can see Murphy being the one who is off, Perhaps to one of our Angus Sisters,

Tomorrow I'd love to see us go with usual back 4,
Whatley Miko and McKenna in middle if Miko is fit,
Stewart and Wighton on wings and Hilson up top,
Linn a great option to come on, He has had a quiet few weeks,

Would say Donnelly up from instead tomorrow.

But would say Thats my starting 11  from the present squad.

We are the latest to be linked with O'Brien. I take it his contract is up at the end of the season?

What's he like as a CH? No doubt he'd be an improvement on what we have but is he no nonsense or silly? No disrespect intended, but is there a reason he's still part time? Finally, do you think he'd be good enough for a title pushing team next season and potential of top flight football thereafter? (If we've still got McPake - we needn't worry about that!)

    Cheers.

To be honest think it would be a step backwards for O'Brien going to Dundee.

If he does leave Arbroath he should be leaving for Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs or the big 2 in Glasgow not another Championship club.
