  1. St Andrews Bar is a great wee pub for anyone wanting an earlier drink.
  2. Anyway........back to the game. Last year's 1-0 win at Cliftonhill was the first time we had won a league match there in 7 years. It's been an even longer time, no matter how good a side we've had, since we've gone there and played really well (imo anyway), probably the 4-0 midweek win when Paul Harvey scored an outrageous chip. The last few weeks have filled me with confidence that Saturday could be different.
  3. Yeah, my thoughts as well. Even though they appear to not have much of a support, I reckon a few more than usual would have travelled if it was a Saturday. Let's hope their regulars can get the time off work
  4. Our game against Nomads is on Friday 16 November at Hampden, 1945 kick off. Live on BBC Alba.
  5. Should have won that day at Parkhead. Mark Smith on the wing gave McGrain a torrid time. Missed some great chances first half before Jimmy Boyle smashed his penalty home early in the second half, absolute scenes. We then lost 2 poor headers from corners ( McClair and Aitken) Desi Walker only had Latchford to beat in the last minute, slipped the ball under his body but it dribbled past the far post. Went home that day a very gutted but proud 14 year old. We had some team that season, played really exciting attacking football
  6. That was the quarter final in 1982. We lost to Rangers 1-2 at Hampden in 1983, at least one of their goals was miles offside. Jimmy Gilmour pulled one back from the spot after Big Lexie Grant got pushed
  7. Cheeky fuckers.....hope the SPFL don't cave in to this nonsense. Great trip for the East Fife fans, well jealous
  8. Connah's Quay at home. Would have preferred away for the sesh but happy enough, at least it's something different. Wonder how many fans they'll bring up seeing as it'll be novelty trip to Hampden for them (although the SFA won't be happy we're playing a game there a few days before the Israel match) Probably live on S4C I reckon as well
  9. When we reached the Scottish Cup quarter final in 1983? Of course we've twice reached the semis of this tournament but "only" had to win 3 games to get there under the old format
  10. Hope we tell them to f**k right off. Might be a 1700 kick off if on the box as Albania v Scotland at 1945 (although it would be a good excuse not to suffer that potential dross)
  11. Irn Bru Cup quarter final draw today at 1pm. Think it's live on Facebook Away to Bohemians would be magnificent but we'll probably end up in Fife ( supposed to be away to Cowden that weekend anyway)
  12. Aye, some of our Wattenscheid mates don't even bother with those games. I went to see them play at home to Borussia Monchengladbach Under 23s in April. Absolutely zero away fans there because Monchengladbach's first team were playing the same day. Atmosphere very subdued compared to other Regionalliga I'd been to. It was like a training match for Wattenscheid which they won easily. Beer and bratwurst for 4 euros was tremendous mind you
  13. Aye most of it was but if you hang around the social club long enough on a Saturday then it's amazing the things you hear
  14. Not a shock really. From the list of applicants that had been mentioned over the last couple of weeks, there was no real stand out in terms of an experienced coach ( Duffy didn't apply, we sounded him out) so he always had a decent chance of landing the job Best of luck to Mark, hopefully we can kick on from here. Before the start of the season I thought we'd be doing well to be challenging for the play offs given we had to build the squad again from scratch so mid table after the first quarter isn't unexpected
  15. He would be absolutely delighted that the SA encourages "players' girlfriends" to travel on the supporters' bus
  16. In the pub aye? I hear Kenny Dalglish can handle his drink better
  17. In what way had he "downed tools"? A tremendous win at New Saints, and he sounded pretty pissed off about the performance and result at Stirling in the video I watched, even though he knew he was off after that. That's not evidence of a man who had stopped trying or caring.
  18. I think Duffy will do OK. My reaction is similar to what it was when we appointed Stark and MacPherson. Both were relatively big names who had managed at a higher level. Both turned out to be far more successful at Queen's than I thought they would be
  19. Exactly. Of course there was never any arguments in the dressing room between players when Gus was in charge.....or Speirs....or Stark....or Brannigan...or Cowboy...or McCann...or Eddie. No older player ever shouted at the likes of Alex Ferguson, Peter Buchanan, Malky Mackay, John McGregor, Ross Caven when they were youngsters
  20. Good to see that some of our support are as fickle as ever Players who only a couple of weeks ago were getting lauded as heroes are now getting labelled "cowards" Certain posters were highly critical of MacPherson's no-nonsense style of management, now some are getting their knickers in a twist about an alleged lack of discipline in the dressing room since he left.
  21. McPhee got 4 that day ( John O'Neill got the other one ),but yes, he was amazing that day Of course Longworth scored 4 at home to Elgin but I missed that one so can't comment.... Nothing to lose by starting East, as long as our more experienced players put in a decent display and give him the support he will need
