I was at the game as a neutral and was sitting on the hill behind the "supporter" when the equaliser went in. there were a few Haddington fans in that area and they all just celebrated the goal together,  then he turned in our direction to give it the get it up you before realising hed picked the wrong people (I was in a St Johnstone top) and then started a one man chant of "your not singing any more". TBH me and my mate were not that bothered but i think he was a little drunk and just enjoying the cup final.

The young crew from Sauchie were then down the front and there was light hearted banter between him and them for 20 minutes and at the end he walked away . It was mostly good humor and nothing the players were not saying to each other during the game.

Not sure what the guy was thinking about, particularly as you had your St Johnstone strip on🤷‍♂️

Maybe he had doubled his doze of bravery pills that morning 😉.

I saw the Sauchie Young team on the hill side of park and the Haddington Ath guys (some not so young), behind goals (entrance side). Apart from some of the swearing, it looking ok/fun banter between two sets.

Some times, supporters do get a bit boisterous, and on occasion too much for my kind of liking, but I didn't notice anything too untoward from behind the far side goals.

Hope you enjoyed the spectacle from a neutral point of view. Certainly think people watching got value for money, even with a Sauchie win.

Sorry CJ, but I just don't get why changing players would make you uncomfortable?

I would guess that over the last few years the team you used to support Musselburgh have had a fair share of players coming and going, but as I alluded to previously that's just football.

Last season we used 24 players who all played a minimum 10 times for the team, that's not a big squad when you consider the number of games the team played during the season, it must have been circa 60?

We can agree to disagree, that’s fine. Even one of your own supporters on here shares my thoughts on turnover. Don’t think  I’ve used the word uncomfortable.

I’ve had conversations with some Musselburgh personnel about couple of changes in past season. I also get incoming/outcoming players /coaching staff is inevitable at all clubs but I still stand with my thoughts. By the way, I also stand with my thoughts about Guy McGarry and wishing him all the success he can get with Tranent. Great person to have in your club/squad.

CJ, how can the turnover of players and managers concern you since the move from the Juniors?

The club has went from strength to strength since then, winning the EOS league and then winning the play off which resulted in promotion to the LL.

Players come and go, that's just part of the game.

All subjective beachboy, but I bet if you looked at turnover of players and particularly managers in/out of Tranent against any other team in the EoS Premier league particularly, then Lowland League; with the exception of East Kilbride last season, I would bet Tranent sat on top of the leaderboard.

Make no mistakes, most clubs in EoS will be envious of the rise that Tranent has shown, now in LL, but some/lots of these changes mentioned above wouldn’t sit comfortably with me, or I guess a lot of fans.

I'm hoping the ins and outs in the squad coming so early is a case of the manager getting the squad he's after nailed down as soon as he can, for a bit of stability for the season ahead if nothing else. Postponements, injuries and a pile up of cup fixtures are pretty much inevitable in this league. There will be plenty of good players in the team that aren't starting every game but can step up when needed. What's McGarry's usual position at Haddy?

Up front, but I wouldn’t say an out and out striker. Likes coming in from the wings and not afraid to find himself in his own half when defending is required. Apparently he started out as a left back, but someone felt he’d be better as a forward.

Celebrate, celebrate by all all means like I did, but trying to goad people into a reaction when there was no animosity at all for the full match, it was a little bit unnecessary to me, but I say no more about it.

How did Haddington totally fall away…..I just felt they ran out of legs in the heat, yes, they had a chance in the dying minutes again but what else was created during this time? It wasn’t meant as a criticism, I think you’re a good team that played well, I just thought the players had no energy left to break us down or get behind us on the counter, like had been done throughout the 90 minutes.

I’ve enjoyed the 2 games against you that I was at this season, look forward to seeing you after the summer break.

Funny who things you write can sometimes bite you n the erse!

There is a highlights package of match on Sauchie’s Facebook page, which you can hear several comments following 4 out of 5 goals scored (might be 5, but can’t hear much after Haddington’s 2nd). Only comments being heard are from Sauchie supporters. Mind you, bulk of Sauchie support was on that side of park so comments will be heard!!

Your thoughts don’t quite fully acknowledge what is being heard. Obviously something is said/actioned by the Haddington fan you mention but it is a cup final where spirits, from both sets of fans will be high.

Like what you said at end (I was at all 3 matches), I enjoyed our matches too. As I’ve said on another feed on this forum, the best team we played all season (my thoughts) was when Sauchie beat us 3-2 at Millfield.

Know Gray and Stewart from watching Bonnyrigg a few times but not as familiar with Viola and McGarry. Seem to have a decent rep and good numbers from EOS. Be interesting to see how the step up to LL is for them both. We were really lacking in depth across the park last season so it's good to see numbers coming in early doors and clearly guys with a bit of quality.

Guy McGarry is certainly capable of a step up to the Lowland League, of that, there is no doubt. 2nd top goal scorer for Haddington this season, but it is his all round strength that is impressive. A great header-er of the ball - wins more aerial challenges than not and the effort/running he puts into each match is phenomenal.

My only concern is the amount of turnover of players (and managers) Tranent have had in the past few years, particularly since the move over from the Junior set-up. Genuinely hope Guy bucks the trend in that aspect. Will be a massive loss to Haddington, but I wish him all best, given this opportunity.

Cup Final Album: Haddington Athletic 2-3 Sauchie

    FULL ALBUM

Not to be for Haddington Athletic. Nonetheless, great camera shots once again from you. Didn’t realise you were one of the two photographers in the corner on Saturday. I was standing 50 yards down at the other side of the goalposts.

Ouch, very sore head this morning but absolutely delighted for the players and everyone who works so hard at the club. Wasn’t it fitting that Brian Morgan was the one to bag the winner? I thought he was fantastic throughout the match and was a terrier when he moved up front at Half Time.

Haddington were dangerous on the counter, but I don’t think there can be any arguments about who deserved to win. When they equalised with a minute or so to go, I started to worry, but thankfully they totally fell away and we were still able to maintain the levels in the Mediterraneanesk heat, which kept the Haddington big mouth and his daughter (I assume) in front of us quiet after their equalising goal reaction.

It might be a nightmare for the players to play in, but watching football in the sun is just so much better, especially when you take away memories like yesterday.

    🤣🤣🤣

90% of that post was actual well written! I agree on the day that Sauchie probably deserved to win the match in 90 mins. However, victory was delayed a further 30 mins. Gutted for the Haddington boys for losing the final, but we got there on merit and didn’t lie down to defeat.

However, your comment about the supporter in front of you is embarrassing. A last minute equaliser; did you want the guy to stand and shake his head in disappointment? You may have noticed the reaction of other Haddington fans was similar to the guy in front of you.

How did Haddington totally fall away after going 3-2 behind? Sauchie probably better in extra time, but Haddington, again, could/should have scored with the final kick of the ball.

Enjoy the win, enjoy the experience, but quit the crap chat as well.

Thanks for the red dot again. Bet you wish you had patented it!

Do you have a large stock of paper hankies to hand, 😭😭, when anyone has the audacity not to agree with you?

This is the type of attitude that stops us having a properly structured Pyramid with sensible pro/rel throughout.  All little fiefdom's beligerantly defending what they have with zero thought about the bigger picture.

Honestly don’t see what the issue is here? Couple of posters on here defending the South of Scotland league position within the pyramid system and you/others having a go at them - why?

None of those teams have stopped the likes of Tranent and Broxburn getting promoted to the lowland League. If the likes of Dalbeattie & (can’t remember the team who Tranent/Darvel met). Win play-offs, they deserve to go up. On both occasions, they lost, so no damage done to EoS sides.

There are many flaws about the pyramid system, but surely SoSL isn’t one of them.

Looks like it’s Boness’s turn today to miss out on the League Cup groups for no apparent reason.

Highland league - Buckie and Brechin

    Lowland league - East Kilbride

i wonder why Brechin get in over Boness? Brutal.

Why the two red dots for this question from gbyh?

He’s not even a Bo’ness supporter and it appears his uncertainty in his post is answered later. Some of you guys get angry just looking at your own shadow!

Just jump on the motorway and it's just as u come off. No different when we have to go to Edinburgh every second week sitting on the bypass

You do talk p1sh at times - this is one.

Newtongrange is on the bypass. Looking at the teams in your league for 23-24, Camelon probably travelled less to away games than Nitten

Swap Nitten with Leith and there can’t be much difference between the two of you.

Sauchie = 13 mins to Dunipace; Haddington 54 miles.

I agree, the location isn't great for Haddington... but that wasn't the complaint I had read before posting. It was the usual gurn about it being played on astro.

I’m old brigade, as you know. I’d much rather watch football on grass as opposed to Astro. Haddington U20s pitch was re-laid Sep-Oct 23, so one of the newest in the Development league set-up. However, on two occasions this season, when we played at Millfield (Stirling Albion & Dundonald); these were probably most enjoyable U20s matches I saw all season.

Funnily enough, of the negative comments I’ve seen, from Haddington supporters, the only negative one about the surface, is mine! Negativity from the rest relates to the venue; 13 miles from Sauchie & 54 miles from Haddington.

It is what it is though and I look forward to the cup final immensely.

I see the pitch forks are already being sharpened because it's getting played on astro. Completely ignoring the fact it's one of the best playing surfaces in the country

Don't think anything to do wi the pitch.

Venue is hardly in the middle of Sauchie/Haddington travel wise?

Started to reply to Spyro, but NB captured the reason why Hihi supporters are not happy with venue.

Not tongue & cheek...they've a cheek asking supporter's to pay that. Plus Sauchie's manager has posted this tonight asking for Support 🤡

    Screenshot_20240523_212959_X.jpg

Cheers for that. Good to see a Sauchie supporter calling this out. I went to the match at Beechwood Park at end of match as I try and go to all Haddington games, but I do think they are taking the Michael. Even Bo’ness still only charge £8 for match entry and they have been in the lowland league for past 3 seasons.

I think when we were in the East Region Junior set-up, I think all clubs within a particular division charged same entry fee. Now in the EoS set-up, we have 3 different main entry prices for the Premier League. Interesting to see what the crowd is tomorrow night AND if Sauchie will increase the price again in 2024-25?

  16. 1 hour ago, guinness said:

Hopefully Sauchie don't.....a fecking Tenner admission😳

Not sure if that was tongue in cheek, but I agree with you.

£10 might only be £2/£3 more than other EoS Premier League teams normally charge for home matches. However, this equates to 25%/43% more. Not sure the product coming out of Beechwood Park is that much better than other grounds.

Given (I think) that Sauchie keep the gate money for this time, a goodwill gesture would be to reduce the gate-price on the night.

Despite being at the bottom end of the table the Big Rose support is holding up well.     League 2 ticket price for the Big Rose is £14 I believe.

BU's great value at £8 .........although there was speculation towards the end of this season that the BU's were considering raising the ticket price to £10 next season.

£8 is outstanding for LL matches and should be congratulated👍. I assume most are £10?

Majority of EoS Premier league matches are £8 (£4 or £5 for concessions). However, at Sauchie a couple of weeks ago it was £10 entry fee. I know it’s only £2 more, but not sure 25% hike is right for this league? In fairness, Jeanfield, Kinnoull + Luncarty charge £7.

Think a few 1st div teams also charge £8. Best value is Preston Ath who, this season, charge £7, but for £10 package, you also get a drink and pie included.

Very inspired by a similar post I saw on the Bo'ness page last week... a little summary of the Broxburn season, resulting in winning the league.

6 points against - Luncarty, Dundonald, Penicuik, Hutchie Vale, Tynecastle, Kinnoull, Crossgates, Inverkeithing

4 points against - Musselburgh, Sauchie, HoB, Haddington, Jeanfield

    3 points against Dunbar, Glenrothes

One or two little blips and slips, but doing the business against the early season expected title challengers was the difference.

Scottish Cup - how many northern teams can you play! Lochee Utd, Nairn County and Deveronvale will all defeated before that 3rd round absolutely gutting 3rd round penalty loss against Buckie after their late, late equalisers.

South Challenge Cup - scraping past Whitburn on penalties, a comfortable, but unspectacular win over Lesmahagow, a magnificent performance and victory over a struggling Auchinleck only to be eventually undone in round 5 as Tranent proved far too good on the day.

League Cup - doing enough to squeeze by Leith, before being comfortably beaten by a Glenrothes side... by far our most disappointing performance of the season.

Qualifying Cup - comfortable win against Peebles and Bathgate were followed by comeback of the season against Bo'ness Athletic... 3-1 down with 5 minutes to go, winning it 4-3! A rematch with Tranent for one of our best defensive display of the season to snatch a late winner... but it proved to be for nothing as we went out to Inverkeithing in the semi 2-1... doing everything except getting an equaliser!

It's been quite a season. And now just a couple of playoff matches to go to complete it.

As far as Haddington faired, I’d say the two best teams we faced this season were Sauchie and Jeanfield.

Our 3-2 loss at Millfield against Sauchie on 7 October 23, was the best performance I saw all season, by an opposition. Couldn’t believe at time that they’d lost 3 out of first 4 league matches. We then went on to beat Sauchie at their ground, at end of April.

Jeanfield never gave us a chance when we played away in Nov 23, winning 3-0.

Our two matches against Broxburn were both closely contested. We lost 1-0 at home (Oct 23) then drew 0-0 at Broxburn in December.

In saying that, kudos to Broxburn losing only 2 league matches all season, so deserved to win the league👍. You also had the exact same W/D/L stats come season end, as Linlithgow did last season. All best in the upcoming play-offs and I hope you get the promotion to the Lowland league.
