  1. Depends on what I'm trying to do. Front foot for high and soft, back foot for low and run, which was a tip I read in a Mickelson book, and he's decent enough round the greens. Feet maybe half width of normal stance.
Again, it works for me, but a lot of chipping is the feel. Best tip is get out in the garden, and play little 5 yard ones to get the feel of impact. If you don't have a garden, the wee soft trainer balls inside will at least give you the feel and rhythm of how it should work

Yes I’ll give it all a go mate, I have a garden so maybe I’ll make a wee green! Yeah rhythm is massive to a good shot, I’ll go down the practice area tomorrow to give it a go.
  2. I've been playing for nearly 30 years and still haven't worked out my yardages so don't worry about that!
It won't work for everyone, but when I'm pitching/chipping, I try to make sure I keep my head absolutely still until I know I've made good contact, similar to the way you might with a putt. It's not perfect, but it's definitely reduced the number of thins/fats significantly

Haha I’ve played for a month so maybe I’ll give myself a break haha! I’ll give that a go thanks for the tip... do you keep your feet closed together and take it from back foot?
  3. For any kind of chip with lots of loft, you need to commit to the shot, don't try and ease through it. Accept that it might go a bit further or shorter than you though for a while, but just try to get used to making good contact.
Similar for full shots, but swing smooth. Accept that a 60 isn't going to go much further than about 70 yards if you cream it, and you might be better off taking more club and playing a softer shot, or a different type rather than just flying it there.
80 yards and in is the money distance, it might take a while to get good from there, but once you do, it's where you save the majority of shots.

I try to accelerate through in longer shots, I’m new to the game and still trying to work out my yardage, I was 150 out tonight into a par 4 hit an 8 and it went 20 over the green!!!left me with my 60 and I thinned it back over [emoji23][emoji23] loving golf but that’s the only thing frustrating me
  4. Full shots or pitching/chipping?

Bit of everything mate, I really can’t use it! anything from 80 yards to around the green I’m just awful with it! I put as often as I can but when required it really lets me down

  5. Good man. No surprises in my answer I’d imagine, but if you’re on the east coast then Golspie, Brora, Struie (Dornoch) and Tain (in that order) are a must, first two especially.

If you can get the Championship course in Dornoch then it’s obviously number one, but tee times can be difficult at short notice and it’s about £190 a round, but it’s one of the best courses on the planet.

Aye mate from East Lothian, I’m going to organise it tomorrow but defo check those ones out tonight and book some tee times.

  6. Well done. Things like first birdie are great moments. [emoji106]

I actually celebrated haha. Made my round. My distances need worked on tho but other than that delighted with how things are going. If I can regularly shoot high 80s to 90s I’ll be a happy man. The wee duffers infuriate me... thing I’m going to putt when possible
  7. I snapped a driver shaft in my youth, practice swinging too close to a ball cleaner like a moron. It wasn't very expensive to replace but it was a bit different back then. Most clubs came with one standard shaft while clubs now usually come with 3 or 4 stock shaft options from dedicated shaft brands.

It'll depend on the shaft if you know what kind it was? If it's a stock shaft, I doubt it'll be too bad. If it's an aftermarket shaft, they can get quite expensive.

Hooked up to the trackman for my fitting today. Club speed was 105 average spin 2500 carry of 260 so it was a stiff shaft i was fitted with. Not over expensive cost me 180 with a new grip. I got told my speed was above average but to be honest I have no idea what any of it means.... I just nodded my head.

  8. I've played there a couple of times.  It is a lovely course.  Some very challenging holes, mind you.

Front 9 with the wind behind you fairly easy back 9 with playing into wind is horrid, not great for someone of my ability.
  9. Well.... played the Glen in North Berwick this evening. Wind was horrific and I managed to go round the front 9 in a 58. Gave up on the 13th and walked in!!! Not a course for beginners in challenging conditions. Beautiful course tho

  10. Went to the range after work.... all the good I’ve been doing was destroyed in 5 minutes. Frustrated doesn’t even come close. Hitting fat irons or topping them, one of my drives nearly went behind me!!!! Always tomorrow

  11. I had my first lesson this afternoon and by far driver was my worst club in the bag. My instructor literally solved it in about 5 minutes.

He explained it very very simply, basically with an iron you want to hit down into the ball with a central stance but the weight on my front foot. With a driver you want to take the ball from your front foot in stance and lean weight on to your back foot and hit upwards on contact.

This solved my issue straight away I’m not a massive hitter but it was straight 8/10 times.

  12. Have my first lesson today at 4pm. Hoping the weather stays dry. Also going out for another round to see if it was a fluke the last time. If i can shoot under 100 I’ll be happy. I also don’t use my driver off a tee very often I hit a 5 iron as I can control irons, my thinking is I’d rather be 180 yards in the middle than 240 yards into the trees

  13. Yes it is, even for the pros!!!
wait till you hit a good one though, what a feeling!

I’m ok with my irons but the driver is a no go just now, playing north Berwick on Wednesday I’d be delighted if I can go round in 100 or less. I’m decent at putting as I bowl so my touch is good.... looking forward to actually getting a round.
  14. Well had my first ever outing at a range today. What I’ve got from it is this is going to be a very frustrating sport!!! I’ve booked a lesson for Friday at 4 so hopefully pick up a few tips

  15. You think they would be packaged a bit better than that given how much they cost.

I took them out the packaging they came in. Irons were separated into their own box. Disappointed that my bag and shoes weren’t shipped and I can’t get a hold of anyone to check the update
