There commercial team are taking advantage of having Brown as their manager and raising a lot of cash. Fair play as that’s their job.

I praised their MD’s transparency however I would not be happy if Falkirk  emptied us out the South Stand to fill it with horrible bigots - I also don’t think our board would.

Commercially, if any club is going to move a season ticket holder from his seat. Then it should be written into the terms and conditions when the season ticket is bought. Then the individual has no cause to complain and, it is clear to the club what their responsibilities are regarding an alternative seating arrangement. With maybe a token of appreciation showing the fan has not been taken for granted.

Keep the Customer Satisfied and they'll come back.

McLaughlin and Shirra (I thought he was a midfielder?) were up against your standard 1960s/70s wingers who were about 2 foot 6 though 😄

Shirra played left back when McLaughlin was transferred to Everton and size did not matter a jot with these 3. The bigger they were, the further they had to fall.

We definitely inconsistent the season we went up, that was party down to having a young rookie manager learning on the job, the longer term injuries to Josh Rae and Cammy Ballantyne and having a ridiculously thin squad with a load of 15 year old on the bench.

Our form improved massively when Rae and Ballantyne came into the squad and unfortunately for you guys we hit our best form right at the business end of the season.

It's just an observation but I do think Falkirk's defence needs tightened up for the championship, I know you had the best defence by a distance in league 1 but it is a much higher level. I also think teams will target your left back with long diagonal balls because of Leon McCann's height, so I think at full back you might need some more physicality there as well.

I think Morrison will be your stand out player this season purely because of his pace, having pace up front in this league is very good.

Height at fullback is not that big an issue. Three of the best left backs I have seen in a Falkirk Jersey were in the Leon McCann build and height. Tiger McLaughlin, Jim Shirra and Tommy McQueen.

Welcome back, after serving your time..

What are your expectations for this season,  is it the normal happy with 8th place or go for it with the possibility of promotion it looks pretty open this season and. Should be a cracker..

So many variables at this point of time it would be no more than wishful thinking.

    1. How will last season's heroes preform in a higher league

    2. Falkirk's new signings

    3. Other team's new signings

We will know the score on the doors after the 1st quarter of the season

Feelings? It will be tight, with the likes of 12 points (4 wins) being the difference between a play off place for promotion and relegation.

It will be some season with surprising results all round. That has got to be good for the game as fans are enticed to watch the unfolding ups and downs of the season.

As @Shodwall catstates the deeper you dive the more you realise this just hasn’t been thought through at all.

Imagine you win in the playoffs (Raith last week but in 2 years time) you then have 10 weeks in the off season to budget for a new grass pitch, contact and hire the Astro pitch company to rip it up (a process which isn’t quick btw), interview new ground staff for the grass pitch, lay the grass pitch, let it bed in, budget and source a brand new training facility, all whilst it’s basically your only holiday time as a board of a provincial football club.

It’s absolutely bonkers and definitely won’t be the last we hear of it. Completely calamitous governance.

It's been thought through all right - SPFL become a closed shop.

Does anybody know if Celtic, Rangers, Hearts - Grass/Hybrid pitches have to come up as well?

It is a two year phase out, so won't apply until season 2026/2027.

The devil will be in the detail but I do not see how they can deliver the resolution without offering financial support to promoted clubs who need to transition.

That would not make any sense. To me anyway.

Got a clarification regarding the SPFL vote on pitches.

Does it allow for Grass/Hybrid or do they go as well.

    You must know

Not unless it is blatant self-interest by some clubs something SPL and SPFL have a long lamentable track record on.

Are the top division clubs going to forfeit a % of the league position prize money for a fund for the transition package? not on your puff.

Seems I've been tagged in a number of posts in this thread recently so I thought I'd respond.

I'm a SMiSA member, have been from day one, so I was part of the recent vote, and like the vast majority of members I voted in support of the resolution.

So, suggesting that I've "changed my tune" because of the outcome of that vote is completely incorrect.

It's worth noting that SMiSA actually have a red line in the agreement that saw us take ownership of the majority shareholding of the club which states that our club cannot switch to an artificial pitch without the consent of SMiSA members. Source; https://www.smisa.net/buythebuds/kibble-vote

St.Mirren fans have almost universally disliked artificial pitches for the last decade. Granted, that dislike is based on the pitches we've been competing on the majority of that time, so likes of Hamilton/Livingston/Kilmarnock. I completely accept that pitches have developed since then and the likes of Falkirk's pitch, and the one at Airdrie look far better.

The use of artificial pitches in the lower leagues is completely sensible. The finances in those leagues are horrific and the use of artificial pitches both to generate additional revenue, and to reduce costs, is totally understandable.

For the record I don't buy the "artificial pitches generate more injuries" line - it makes little sense to me - and I completely agree that you get good games on astro, bad games on astro, good games on grass, bad games on grass. However...............

My view is that in the top flight of our professional game, we should be striving to be the very best we can be. I'm sure everyone would agree that football on a good grass pitch is preferable to any artificial pitch. We haven't always had good quality grass pitches in the top flight, as we saw last season, and that is an important part of the new resolution which seems to have been missed in the whole furore about banning the plastic.

This resolution aims to ensure that all top flight clubs have grass pitches that comply with a high minimum standard and that pitch consultants will be brought in to help clubs get and stay there. That means all twelve clubs, all playing on good quality grass, all competing on an even playing field if you will.

The finances in the top flight are not brilliant but they are night and day to the lower leagues. The financial penalty for failure, and the financial bounty for success, are relatively huge, so for me it makes sense to remove one of the possible complaints that clubs playing on an artificial pitch have any sort of advantage.

That might or might not be the case but is it a coincidence that much smaller clubs like Hamilton and Livingston punched miles above their weight in the top flight for many years whilst playing on plastic? Some would argue not.

So, le'ts take that away, give our best players the best possible surfaces on which to entertain in front of our biggest crowds, in our most televised league. I cannot see how that is construed as being a bad thing?

Now in terms of getting there, my own personal view is that a central pot of money needs to be set aside to be used for any club gaining promotion that need to transition to grass. I do not want the shop to be any more closed than it is. I do not want to see any club denied promotion because they cannot afford or are unwilling to switch their pitch. The league as a whole needs to ensure that the transtiion to grass is affordable, taking a leaf out of the Dutch book.

And talking of the Dutch, it's surely also worth considering the possible health issues around artificial pitches that have led to them being banned in the Netherlands top league?

Can you clarify. When you refer to 'Grass' is it grass and grass alone or does it include the Hybrid Grass/Artificial pitches as used by Celtic, Rangers, Hearts.

    Thanks

I would love that to, only issue is does yeats lack the physicality especially at his age? He isn’t the tallest and at only 19/20 years old he won’t have fully filled out yet. Certainly looks on the skinnier side when you see him play.

Size in not everything as a midfield enforcer. Berty Auld was not tall or all that well built and bossed the midfield and saw off taller and heavier hard men. But Yeats does have that bite in a tackle and the sports science gurus at the club will be doing the right thing with his conditioning. Have high hopes for the guy and comes across as a good pro who will go far in the game. Look how Will Vaulks kicked on at the same age.

So if we have a squad of 18 with 2-3 new signings coming in, let’s say that’s tait, goalkeeper and a Cb. That would leave us with a squad of 21. Let’s also say you can get rid of Allan. That should allow for another one to be brought in? And hopefully with the good news of season tickets sale we should be able to stretch to another. What other position should we strengthen? Allan for another striker? Then either sign Ross or his replacement?

If Adams cuts it at Right Back hopefully a Tommy Gemmell style player and from the stories there similarities build, surging runs and a good shot all great and good and frees up Yeats for a midfield enforcer role. That leaves GK CB possible A N Other with a couple of loans.

In money terms we could be behind. What about the non-money intangibles: squad strength, team motivation, managerial organisation, club ethos, club/fan togetherness, will to win and succeed, upward momentum. Granted that most Championship clubs also tick these boxes, but I would wager that our own levels are considerably higher at this moment in time. These intangibles could make all the difference, albeit for the lack of money. #doingittogether as saying goes.

The club has to be financially prudent and not put its existence at risk. Put the best team we can on the pitch and see where it takes us. Predicting league positions and expectations is only realistic once all the teams in the league have completed the season's signings.

After first quarter of the games are played we will have a better idea where we stand.

It's all dependent on the quality of the grass pitch 😮‍💨

Celtic park, Tynecastle or Easter Road then absolutely but Dens or Bonnyrigg then not a hope in hell.

Celtic park and Tynecastle are Grass/Hybrid are these being banned as well? All the talk is on 'grass'  so does anybody have a clarification.

I thought those days were gone and 'Uncle Roy' had stopped pissing money up a wall.

Roy McGregor is nobodies mug as shown by the advertising hoardings around the Dingwall Pitch from the suppliers to McGregor Supplies. You can be sure they are paying top dollar and such gestures do not go unappreciated.

There will be legacy funding in place to ensure the clubs security when the time comes for him to depart.

I think the long term ambition should definitely be for the club to return to a grass pitch. However, the current proposal would force any promoted club with an artificial surface to use most of their playing budget to tear up and replace a perfectly adequate surface.

That is not good from a fairness or competitive perspective, as the promoted side would be virtually guaranteed to go straight back down.

Which could be exactly what the SPFL are trying to gerrymander

  15. 6 hours ago, Blame Me said:

    My thoughts exactly.

Play them at their own game and show the farce that allowing subsets of their membership to vote on issues that affect the whole is!

The SPFL top-flight and its administrators have done more to kill off the game in Scotland than promote it with these protectionist measures.

The proposed SPFL pitches will have high running, maintenance costs. Relegated clubs will struggle to finance them due to the lower league payments.

Insisting on Championship standard pitches certainly puts them on the spot.
