  1. Problem would be that these players would not pass the ball to him. If he got the ball and they were more than 5 yards away he would not find them with a pass.
  2. Very true. It's personal choice from players you watched live. Great pub conversation, also works well with Scotland teams.
  3. Different style of player, every side needs a ball winner. Shirra is the hardest worker I have seen play for Falkirk. Hard as nails but could play a bit and add a few goals. No rights or wrongs and you have a fair point.
  4. Never saw Parker or White but if I had from the snippets on the web and articles written, they would most likely be a pick. But you have got to start somewhere so based the question on players I had seen. No rights or wrongs but an interesting topic to discuss. Alex Scott was something else he had lost his pace when he joined us but could he cross a ball, wonderful player to watch.
  5. True ! will amend. Another good team you have put together there
  6. Going in another direction. Best Falkirk XI from players seen. Here is mine Whigham , S Kennedy , Mclaughlin . Markie , Miller , Gibson . McAllister , Stainrod , M Johnson , Shirra , Stokes. I acknowledge there are better individual players than Markie Miller & Gibson but as a unit I have never seen a better 4,5,6 play together. Manager of course Mr W Cunningham.
  7. Right back Brendan McIntyre, Centre half Peter Dunn, Centre midfield Hugh Hill.
  8. We are stuck with what we have got until January. The target is still to be in touch and no more than 3 points behind 2nd bottom come that time. If we do sign anybody they will not be match sharp either though lack of fitness , match time or both. So by the time they are challenging for a place it's the transfer window again. So the management can only try to get a system that gets the best out of what we have and minimise the weakness individual players have. Try to grind out points week on week as boring and as negative as it may be we just have to live with it. If there is no pace at the back do we play a sweeper to sort that out in a back 5. Midfield no more than a further line of defenders and live on breakaways. Dire as it may sound it's a reality check on how we find ourselves. The last time the club were this bad was in the mid 70's part time players and the dirtiest, talentless players we ever had. But they tried, kicked and fought their way to survival and better times.
  9. If FFC bring back an academy they will have to get the scouting, coaching and preparation for the first team fit for purpose. While teams with a similar fan base than Falkirk have got in right and brought in millions plus sell on appearance clauses therfore financing survival in the top league. Kilmarnock , Motherwell , Hamilton , St Johnstone being good examples. Those we have brought though have been undersold. Also the club have missed local talent for generations and that is a disgrace. The club are looked on as an easy touch and it goes back decades. An academy would have to be based on a 5 - 10 year payback with a minimum of 3 -4 players coming through per season or heads would roll at the academy and the board that hired them. That would focus a few minds.
  10. Oh for a tardis ! Brown and Hay in their prime would be just what is needed. Or even better George Miller and John Markie.
  11. You make a good point. Every team talk will be based on this lot are their for the taking so get stuck in about them. McKinnon has just got to get the best out of what he has got until January. Get a formation that gets the best out of what talent they have and negate the weakness. To be pragmatic a realistic target is to be in touch come the transfer window, how our expectations have fallen.
  12. McKinnon will have an idea now of what he has got and what he can do with them. He and his team will be setting out a style of play that will suit the strengths and minimise the weakness individuals have. Goodness knows what the formation will be. But as ugly as it may be, if we are not detached come the end of the year then McKinnon will have gone a good job and take it from there with who he ships out and who he brings in. Not good reading I know but the fans must back the team that goes on the pitch, getting on their backs before a ball is kicked is counter productive. You never know there may be 1 or 2 gems that are going to shine. Expect the unexpected !
  13. McKinnon has to get a system up and running that gets them playing to their strengths and players in the correct positions with the right attitude. This is the most important 2 weeks of the season for him. You never know there could be a few players that turn out as good a new signings.
  14. We will see a lot of effort from the team today, these guys are playing for a first team game and their jobs. So they put in a good shift and work your socks of at training next week and impress the new boss. There is going to be a new shape and line up established over the next few weeks. He did a good job at Brechin and Raith Rovers and Dundee United were in as big a mess as we are now. So a clean sheet for the players and a fresh start. Expect the unexpected ! we should be used to it by now.
  15. One of the best footballing brains ever to have pulled on a Falkirk jersey. He saw passes that nobody else did and was a genius. Tactically he would be a class above everybody else in the league. You make a fair point but he has a point to prove and a good number 2 beside him would negate that doubt.
  16. Just a few years ago our standing was so high that the Falkirk managers job was a sought after job not only for experienced pro's but up and coming talent wanting a start in club management. It is a reality check for us all that by the looks of things nobody wants to touch us with a barge pole, that is how far we have fallen in the game. What a mess ! The next appointment has to be the right one, get it wrong and it could all be over. Therefore is it time to call upon the great Alex Totten to once again step forward in this time of need even if its just a few games. Still think Russell Latepy would be a good choice.
  17. Of course it does, these statements would make clear. This is what we are doing to get a new manager in place. Because the BOD are not saying anything the forum is speculation central.
  18. Along the lines of. We have had X amount of applications and are working on a short list / The job will be advertised / We have a candidate in mind and working towards an appointment soon / We don't have a clue what to do any ideas ?
  19. Lot this talk and rumours gets us nowhere. The club has to give a statement of intent such as we have a shortlist, interviews are taking place or there is a caretaker until we make the correct appointment. Nothing since the 27th is not good enough.
  20. Did any of the current lot know Hartley ? No ! so a fresh start with the signings me made.
  21. Russel Latapy ? why not. Would have the fans behind him from day one plus the respect of the players.
