  1. Wasn't Laurie Cunningham's first game in Glasgow though. That would have been in 1976. He scored the only goal that night. Hate to say it but he was horribly racially abused by some of our fans. ( think there were one or two others in the Orient team as well, Vince Hillaire?) Might have been the 70s and ignorance and all that but terrible anyway.
  2. Good way of promoting your appearance at a Glasgow theatre without pissing off half of your potential audience.
  3. Not forgetting giving himself and Richard Attenborough away in the great Escape
  4. Think Gordon Jackson must have won the golden boot for 1966 including a hat trick in the semi and final. Hats off to old Hudson and Cowley. Funny that Celtic with Jim Craig ( Glasgow University graduate) was in successive winning teams and Thistle with Dennis McQuade ( another Glasgow University graduate ) lost the only match they played. Typical.
  5. Only ones I can remember coming from Celtic were Gerry Britton and Murdoch the goalie. ( Later a police officer ) He was a big bloke so might be him. FTR best old firm singing we made IMO was Alex O' hara, great servant for the club. ( or maybe KW) . Just thought Dixie Deans did sign for is for about six weeks in late 70s but never heard of him being described as the honey monster.
  6. Became one of my favourite Thisle players ever, a sort of John Robertson player without the pace.
  7. This was used in the 74 / 75 League cup. No pictures unfortunately but your dad may recall Dennis McQuade scoring a superb goal against Clyde in the sections, Great run and goal with or without the offside rule. . Thistle won the group and drew Airdrie in the quarter final. The league had started by then ( with normal offside rules) and by the time the quarter final was played, the Jags had completely forgotten the LC rules and Airdie hammered us 5-2 at Firhill. Good Airdie side though with Derek Mountfield, Paul Jonquin and Drew Busby.
  8. You are right re JC's testomonial. Better get some memory pills or not post after a few beers, but I still keep thinking that we played WBA sometime in late 70s / early 80s. (pre season friendly ??) Def wasnt the Orient match, they beat us both home and away and as you said Laurie Cunningham ran us ragged supported by an even younger John Chiedozie, probably first black players I saw at the home of football
  9. It was indeed Donnie's testimonial. Man U won 3-0 and Bestie played to the crowd a lot. The player in the photo I believe is Sir Jack Campbell, who was the next Thistle player to get a testimonial, against West Brom with Robson, Regis and I think Laurie Cunningham.
  10. What was Sporting's sell on clause when they bought him? I seem to remember 50 million being quoted. Wonder if they will ever activate it? :-)
  11. Thanks, just will be over for two weeks and will take in the Falkirk game and the Stranraer midweek. so a game on the 18th if we win our group?
  12. Probably been on here before but why no match on saturday 18th August?
  13. Great effort tonight, but midfield looked outfought without Osman. Keown and Turnbull were superb, Elliott was great going forward but struggled badly against Tierney. Cerny didn't have a save in the second half. Lots of positives to take to perth next week.
