  1. Not a stupid name by any stretch but in the hospital after he was born  my Canadian wife chose the name William for our son. I didn't have the energy or the inclination after the emotional roller coaster that is watching your first child come into the world to explain the negative connotations having a name like that and coming from a Protestant family ( I am staunch btw, a staunch atheist but unfortunately you can't choose your heritage).
I decided I liked the name and we went with it as he will be growing up in Canada and won't have to navigate the sectarian minefield I did growing up. That doesn't stop idiots on social media commenting on posts with gems like "Yaas wee king Billy WATP" and making references to Prince William which annoys me almost as much as I am also a republican (unfortunately that also happens over here but not to the same degree as it would back home).
The posts were removed and I explained the reasons for doing so. Some understood, some didn't but over time the majority of these people have been removed my friends/contact lists and I no longer have anything to do with them for various reasons, but mainly because of the sectarian shite that has been posted now that Rangers are back in the big league and competing (I know) with Celtic.
There are a higher percentage of simple minded fuckwits in the Old Firm support than most other clubs, that can't be denied but  people who are otherwise intelligent, functioning members of society can't stop themselves from indulging in this kind of scumbaggery and it really makes me sad (I include some of my own family in both of these brackets).

I love my city but I'm glad my son won't grow up there.

He will be encouraged to support Rangers because that's his Dad's team and I will take him to Ibrox when he is old enough but he will be steered well clear of all the other shite that goes with it.

  2. Hey losers......it seems to have gone all quiet over here lately....I wonder why that should be? Is it because you've found yourselves back in your rightful place in the great scheme of things? Apart from one or two obvious roasters we were warming to every St Mirren thread being invaded with absolutely hilarious pictures of trains and chefs during the slight blip in time you were briefly above us. Now it seems normal service has been resumed you have all crawled back under your rocks never to be heard of again. That's a wee shame......I think was one of the terms from last season[emoji38]
    Get doon.....mind the gap......we're top of the league and you're no......etc etc:thumsup2

  3. It wasn't just Darien, but the ill years of the 1690s and growing economic nationalism that shut off Scottish trading avenues that brought Scotland round towards union with England. I think England would have eventually invaded anyway and Scotland got a pretty decent deal out of the English in 1707 all things considered. It feels like a pointless waste of time framing the nationalism argument around 1707 anyway when it's the failings of the post-1979 Westminster establishment that's central to the independence argument.
Thats fine then, we got a good deal in 1707. Great result really. Ffs

Michael Tidser and Chris Millar did not have to compete against successful Celtic academy graduates at this level, because err, Celtic and other top tier sides do not play at this level. Ditto Peter MacDonald, who didn't need to play against Alan Hutton at this level to regularly score 15-20 goals per season. Swing and a miss, chump.

Well quite - Hal Stewart should indeed be one of the examples that GMFC should look to from their own history : a pioneer in discovering a new pool of talent in the Scandinavian market that transformed both Morton's fortunes and the Scottish game as a whole. Ditto a certain Douglas Rae when, as a younger and much more imaginative board member, secured Lindberg and Rajamaki from the obscure Finnish market to a Second Division club in order to spearhead the competitive team of the mid-90s. Scottish football clubs have access to a huge market of professional footballers across Europe and can offer extremely competitive wages by the standards of their European peers.

That is where the competitive advantage lies for GMFC: not in a third-rate youth setup, based on a back of a fag packet delusion that the club will become the next Hamilton, only much better at Hamilton's M.O. for no discernible reason whatsoever.

Not scouting the eastern Europe and Scandinavian market is criminal. Roll on the days of a forward thinking board

  5. Supporting a team is through blind faith, through thick and thin.

Sticking up for a sex offenders, and trting to blame the victim, has nothing to do with supporting a team. Feel sick at the thought of sticking up for a rapist cos he plays for your team.

Very few clyde fans coming out of that thread appear normal, the majority are scumbags and I long for the day they wash up in the 8th tier of the pyramid
