  1. There was an auld Dayglow named Granny, Whose posts marked him out as a fanny, What he typed with his hands, Resulted in bans, And everyone was consequently much happier. See? It's quite an effective technique in the right hands. Anyway, I'm derailing the thread so that's enough of that. Needless to say that if we don't win this, we can all proceed to Full Meltdown
  2. Yes it does. It doesn't *rhyme*, but in this case that's clearly employed as a deliberate literary technique. You have to ken the rules to break them.
  3. Yeah, I have to say the guy doesn't look up to much. Was willing to give him a chance, but I can't really think of a single aspect of his game which impresses.
  4. As a relative newcomer to the Dundee cause, I would like to stress what a sickener that was, and yet also how a big bunch of allegedly grown adults who dress like Teletubbies are in many ways the real losers. Thank you.
  5. Fair. A dull opening eventually gave way to a poor finish. Inverness looked more likely to score by the end, tbf. From a Dundee perspective, I've been unconvinced by McPake's tinkering for the past couple of games. I'm all for making substitutions at key moments, but at the moment they just seem to be breaking things up and making the team less coherent.
  6. Solid work. Mon Dundee: intae these dour, crowdwank-enabling teuchters.
  7. Out in Dundee the night, every Arab thus far has been a proper shirty, bet-hedging b*****d. #Rattled.
  8. No need, in the unlikely event that I do manage it. The cash would probably come in useful in the pub, whatever the score!
  9. Does anyone know how many away tickets have actually been allocated? I'm not familiar enough with Tannadice to work it out just based on the names of the stands. I'm trying to work out if it's worth me trying to take Monday morning off work so's I can stand around in a rainy queue.
  10. That was an excellent performance for 89 minutes. I take back some of what I said after Dunfermline though - I think the club *is* still a bit hungover from last season. Everyone on the pitch and in the stands just seemed punch drunk after the (totally undeserved) equaliser, and you kind of knew we were fucked. The subs obviously didn't help. I was surprised by the general air of resignation after what had up until then been a really gritty, upbeat performance played in front of an excellent atmosphere. The fear will subside once winning becomes a habit, which fortunately it will because there are some really good players in this team. Really hard to pick a MOTM today. Johnson's hold-up play was tremendous given that he's not even a particularly big lad, and everyone in midfield was fantastic. Robertson could make the club a lot of money one day. The 4-5-1 worked really well and gives the gaffer an interesting selection headache for next week. Hemmings has to play if fit, and so does Johnson on current form, and yet tactically we looked a lot better with only one striker today.
  11. 'Mon Dundee. Intae these dour, coefficient-vandalising granite-fuckers.
  12. I've been in Dundee two weeks now, and I'm yet to meet a United fan who isn't a complete oddball. ^^^ true story
  13. This was one of the most memorable refereeing performances I have ever seen. 3 reds, 8 yellows, a yellow for the bench AND a penalty, all given against the home team, without a single card for the visitors. Quite funny for a neutral, but the home fans were absolutely seething.
  14. I was in there picking up my Aberdeen ticket earlier and asked them about this. They said that they were expecting to get them on Friday and put them on sale next week, but they couldn't say exactly when. They did say that expected to receive "about the same number as we have season ticket holders", and that therefore they did expect a few of them to go on general sale, as not all STHs would want to or be able to go.
  15. Oh, and the Derry was a good place to be today. Very enjoyable. Some sound punters, and a good noise generated from time to time as well.
  16. I thought we just about deserved to win today, although clearly some work still needs doing on the system. In the first half there was no width at all, and it was difficult to see what the plan was, other than maybe "have two better, more expensive strikers than the other team". Now, having two better, more expensive strikers than the other team will probably be enough on plenty of occasions this season, but some further tweaks are needed if this team is really going to click into top gear. Once the subs came on, things improved significantly, and after Nelson appeared there was only going to be one winner. It was good to see another strong finish from the side. McCall afterwards sounded absolutely bealing re. the penalty shout in the first half. I was too far away to see it clearly, but I have to say I looked straight to the ref and was relieved to see him doing nowt.
  17. Good to see the man they're all calling "The Thinking Man's Shankland" returning to the Thinking Man's Dundee Club. Buzzing for Saturday now.
  18. I've done the "Im new here" bantz to death on here this week, so time for some proper reflection. I won't claim to know a fraction of what most of you know about the club, but one thing I hopefully do have is a bit of objectivity, in that my thoughts are purely based on the team this year rather than coloured by last season's pish...although if Hamilton keeps making mistakes like that then I won't be on the fence about him for long. In the end I think that has to go down as a bit of a result. Yes, we were fortunate in that the first half was a tactical disaster and we could have been out of it, but give the manager credit for changing it around to good effect. For a while I was worried that the team's confidence looked completely shot and they were still suffering a hangover from last season. However, coming back in circumstances like that will do wonders for them mentally. Pleasing to see that we looked like the fitter side as well. Another sign that McPake may just know what he's doing. The penalties both fall into the category of "I've seen them given". You could maybe argue that it's fortunate to get two of those in one game, but anyone saying they were outrageous decisions is well wide of the mark. For the second one, if you watch the back of Johnson's legs, the boy clearly goes right through him.
  19. Was gonna head down the Dundee FC Social Club and attempt to blag my way in on Friday - thanks to DeeMan et al on here for the recommendation, by the way - but I've just been informed that my work will end at 19.00. Fucking Great. I'm staying in the west end, so where's the best place to watch the game round there? Obviously I know a few good pubs like the Speedwell and the Phoenix and that, but where's going to have it on with the commentary and a bit of atmosphere in that neck of the woods? On a completely unrelated note, where can I source a kazoo? For some reason, I feel a sudden, uncontrollable urge to start blasting out "Johnnie Scobie" at all times, whenever I see anyone poorly dressed in Tellytubbies orange. Cheers, fellow Dees.
  20. I'm arriving in a few days. From a purely selfish point of view, I'm pretty happy with that cup draw. It's a tricky game, but at least it's a good fixture to take in.
  21. Then we have probably stood as enemies at opposite ends of the Graham Turner derby many times. How poignant that at our next derby we will stand together as brothers, roaring on the Dark Blue Machine. Although not at fucking Tannadice, by the sound of it. Anyway, today's game was an absolute stroll. This "supporting Dundee" lark is a piece of piss. I was impressed by the kid in midfield, Johnson looks like he'll score goals at Championship level, and several others had decent games too.
  22. Do you know it? It's a sort of English Perth, which is to say a superficially pretty town full of servile Rees-Mogg loving fannies. Great little club, mind. But my love of the team has far outlived my love of the town itself.
  23. Good to know! In my experience, a Shrewsbury-Scots accent combined with a few premeditated lies confuses the f**k out of doormen enough for all to be ok pretty much everywhere. You're not from there, but you're also clearly not NOT from there, so they just kind of give up and wave you in. Reading the thread back, a guy was saying that the away allocation for Tannadice has been cut. Is this definitely a thing? A total c**t of a decision if so, as I was really looking forward to that one on paper.
  24. I'm assured by my contacts that the DABS were heavy shite. Thanks, mate - I might drop in there on Friday for the Pars game.
