Just to give some clarity on this, its no big drama.

Hibs - like everyone else - were testing players twice a week up til last week.

Think it was Tuesday / Friday.

When the Scot Gov said pro football could go to 1 x weekly, we kept the Friday test (as obvs it is closer to Saturday bounce matches etc) as the provider said they could make the timescale and had done previously.

That last part is the bit that fell over - hence Hibs move to a Thursday from now on for certainty.

Shame, but its only a bounce match, no real harm done.

True, but it would have been more than a bit embarrassing for Hibs if they had kept testing on Fridays and the company had met those 24-hour deadlines last week and this week, but had then fucked up next week (ahead of the first league game).

The whereaboutary with the new board appointments for the SPFL is incredibly pathetic.

Old Firm fans arguing about it despite the Rangers and Celtic reps taking turn about and have for a long time.

It's apparently corrupt to the core etc etc. Football fans are some breed.

I'm just waiting for the Tom English meltdown when he finds out the Brechin guy is still on the board.

  3. St Mirren wouldn't get anything (other than some youth training money) if McGinn moves again. The sell-on only applies to the next deal. e.g. Hibs got a sell-on when Burnley sold Steven Fletcher to Wolves, but they didn't get anything when he moved from Wolves to Sunderland.

Apparently the bounce game scheduled for today v County didn't happen. Bit mysterious as the pitch should have been okay.

He did make a note that there was a potential problem with the rule, because the severity of the punishment could potentially make it illegal. To quote:

He was flagging up a potential issue though. I'm not even sure the SFA will actually fine Hearts and Thistle (the rule explicitly allows for bringing proceedings to the CoS to make sure it's on the books before a time limit runs out, so my guess is that it rests on whether opposing the motion to sist it to the SFA is breaking the rules), and I suspect the fine will be mild, if there is one. Expulsion won't be on the cards.

Aye. Fine them enough to cover the legal costs of the respondents. Means that doing this isn't a "cost free" option (as Thistle imagined).

COVID better watch out, Budge will be taking it to court next. It got them relegated and stopped the title assault next season. The £8 million figure is making sense now. Here was me thinking she'd pulled it out her arse after talking to her accountant, Steven Pressley.

8 million looks downright conservative if you consider all that 2021/22 Champions League money that Hearts have lost out on.

TNS will still play in the Europa League along with Bala Town and Barry Town, Connahs Quay bagging the Champions League spot.

True, but the big advantage of starting in the CL for TNS is that when (not if) they lose in CL qualifying, they parachute into the EL. TNS have sometimes got to QR3 by winning the CL first round, losing the second round and then parachuting into EL third round. Whereas the Welsh teams in the EL don't normally get any further than QR1, unless their seeded opponent (hello Killie) make a hash of it.

As horrible an outfit as the Nomads are on the park, they appear to have been a class act off it. Therefore it's lovely to see them bending it right up TNS, who are a horrible outfit on and off the pitch.

The real reason for the gripe from TNS is probably that they have gotten used to receiving a few hundred grand  from UEFA for making up the numbers in CL and EL qualifying each summer.

You think? If money is an issue then it's hard to justify spending there.

3 Rbs - Gray, McGinn, James

4 CBs Porteous Jackson Hanlon McGregor - McGinn, Gogic cover (can see Gray, if he plays this season, mainly being as one of a back three)

    2 lbs - Stevenson, Mackie

Unless people go out I don't think those numbers are getting seriously supplemented. Maybe Naismith if there's a deal that works for everyone, or a new CB plucked from obscurity? I think the biggest single issue has been a lack of midfield solidity, and Gogic should mitigate that (presuming he signs). As a couple of us were saying above seems pretty likely we'll be looking at 3 CBs and wing backs for much of the season anyway  so strength in numbers should make us alright at the back and they'll have plenty of cover

I think Josh Doig is more likely to get a chance at left back than Mackie.

Not when they begin the tournament with a Premiership one no. Obviously. When folk are now saying it's perfectly OK to finish the Scottish cup the following season when one team has been massively weakened in part by the voting actions of the other 3 teams left in then there's no hope. I'm out.

Because it's impossible to win the Scottish Cup as a Championship club, of course.

  10. . I mean why hasn't;t compensation to Hearts, PT and Stranraer been sorted out by now or even discussed at least not in public? They could have worked up a package before the Resolution and presented it to clubs as a goodwill gesture.

If Neil Doncaster had phoned up Ann Budge and said "hey, Ann, we recognise what happened to you is a bit unfair, so the rest of the clubs are willing to offer you £1 million in compensation", what do you think would have happened?

    1. Ann Budge would have said "gee thanks, Neil, that's really thoughtful of you all. We're more than happy to accept your kind offer and will drop any legal actions"
    2. Ann Budge would have rejected the offer and presented it as evidence of the SPFL accepting their guilt.

He is creating the narrative that it will be Scottish football and not Hearts he is running away from when he doesn't fancy playing in The Championship

Naismith played the last time Scotland had a game (3-1 v Kazakhstan) and is/was probably hoping to hang on for the Euro playoffs. It seems unlikely that he would get picked for the squads in September and October if he stays with Hearts, because as it stands they won't be playing proper games before October.

    It is.

Although if UEFA had been heavy handed with leagues being called early after we called the lower leagues but not the Prem we might have had similar here. We clearly hadn't ruled it out.

True, but it makes some sort of sense for top division(s) to carry on while the lower leagues stop, e.g. for economic reasons. That's what is happening in England. But the Belgians seem to be doing it the other way round, which makes no sense whatsoever.

There's been a lot of commentary on this case by a lot of folk, not all of whom are fully conversant on the subject matter. Here's Lord Clark's actual notes on the decision. It's not  very long and I think it would benefit most of those with an interest in the subject to read it before posting further. Not aimed at you personally, btw, but there has been a lot of shite posted in this thread.

    https://www.scotcourts.gov.uk/docs/default-source/cos-general-docs/pdf-docs-for-opinions/2020csoh68.pdf?sfvrsn=0

On whether it's a football dispute or a company law dispute, I'll just leave this here.

I think you're talking at cross purposes. Lord Clark said it was a football dispute, but also said that the arbitrators would need legal expertise. What you will end up with is a panel of lawyers and/or judges who have some familiarity with football, rather than staying in court and risking having some crusty old judge that doesn't know anything about football (e.g. the classic "who is Paul Gascoigne? judge).

It is well worth a listen.

The Arbitration guy was really clear, and what he is saying, (as Welshbairn mentioned above)  is a good indication of why Neil Doncaster was looking so comfortable  on Sky Sports yesterday, as opposed to sweating about his impending doom at the hands of the Arbitrators.  Even If there is a bit of grubby laundry to be aired in the docs, nobody gets to see it, it’s illegal to leak it, and as long as it doesn’t rise to the level of criminality, Hearts and Thistle appear to be required to abide by the rules of membership of the SPFL, whether they believe it to be fair or not. Personally, I would like him to be Arbitrating in this case.

Also really liked Chris Mclaughlin as well, who was a decent foil to Tom English’s defence of Hearts and Thistle, with a far more balanced approach, taking the damage this could do to every club in Scotland in to account, not just the Desperate Duo.

Nice to see Tom adding in (after his mandatory, “what did they expect to happen”), that UTD, Raith and Cove are being harshly treated here too.

What's really daft about that argument is that even if United, Raith and Cove had said they were all in favour of reconstruction (of whatever variety), it wouldn't have been anywhere near passing. So what were they supposed to do about it?

The threat to boycott away matches is something that will fall apart pretty quickly. Is the boycott for one season only, or two seasons, or forever ? Are they all getting together and taking a vote ? It’s all pretty daft in truth, most decent fans will just carry on attending games the way they always have.

It will fall apart as soon as they start winning some games, which is more than likely in the Championship. This is where forums *are* unrepresentative of fans as a whole - we are folk who think more about the issues than the average fan, and this means we have the greatest motivation to do something about it (like a boycott). The pushback against including the Rangers newco in the SPL (or the First Division, as a fallback plan) started from forums like this.
