  1. Ive never ventured into this sub forum, however im a UCF fan, more the baseball side than US Football, but still support them and get to games when I can (was at the FAU vs UCF match in september). Following the guys over the last couple seasons their progress despite losing the Griffin’s etc has been amazing, its pretty clear with a 20-0 record we should be a P5 team. It has highlighted to me that the Americans’ rankings system is an absolute joke and really needs to be looked at.

  2. Like yourself I have adopted the Magic as my team, been to a few games in the past and jumped at the chance to go see them closer to home when they played in London a few years ago too. One of the games I went to was against the lakers as well. Coming in to it off the back of a 10 game losing streak to win it in overtime was by far and away one of the best sporting experiences I've ever experienced. Fell in love with the team and the sport and have up my football season ticket to go to more basketball games back here too. Looking forward to this season even though I don't hold much hope, as long as there's an improvement and the players work well together (and continue to keep my heart rate raised) I'll be happy!

I dont predict a post season berth for this year but would expect a vast improvement on last year, I do however think Toronto will do something this year.
  3. The evil empire is the Yankees.

Nooo way, Boston fans are the biggest scumbags in sport, truly god awful people.

Its up to the dodgers now to save the world.

Eta- ok maybe not in sport but certainly baseball, iv never encountered racism at baseball before.

  4. I think Basketball in general is one of the most exciting sports to see live. The pace and the drama during close games is unrivalled. I'll report back but excited to see Mo Bamba and Aaron Gordon in the flesh as much as Embiid/Simmons.

Aaron Gordon is just a fucking excellent player to watch, so much coverage. I think magic have the bare bones of a decent team, its just they get absolutely shagged when they have injuries.
  5. Except the story has nothing to do with the SNP nor Scotland specifically.
It's been written by a "national" health correspondent - so it's not a Scotland-specific story - and it also mentions their use in parts of England. What it doesn't mention is the SNP.
You're reading too much into this, fuelled by your paranoia. By all means object to the content of the article, but to try and claim it as "SNPBAD" is ridiculous in the extreme.

You clearly dont understand the argument. They dont need to mention the SNP. Im not an SNP member and didnt vote for them at the last Scottish election so im not blinded by paranoia, I am very happy to criticise the SNP on matters which deserve criticism such as the new exams process, the hiring of Stephen House and several other areas where they deserve actual criticism.
  6. As a Red Sox fan i am delighted to be one win away from being in the World Series however after seeing the interference call that took away a 2 run HR from the Astros all i can say if it had been the other way i would have been raging.

Having visited fenway twice i cannot fathom why anyone would become a sox fan lol. But yeh crap call imo but ultimately its up to the NL champs now to stop the evil empire.
  7. I can understand the paranoia as would anyone who follows the BBC's coverage of Scottish politics.
I am a huge admirer of the BBC, pay my licence fee and think having a public broadcaster is well worth the money.  However their coverage of Scottish (and often national) politics leaves a lot to be desired.  Some of their attacks are overt, some far more subtle.

Exactly, its constant subtle undermining of everything, generally speaking they frame their headlines in an snpbad context and keep the tone of the article in that vein, they do generally give a say to an alternative view but the damage is already done by that point imo. Hundreds of articles subtly attacking one party, encouraging assumption from the reader towards the editorial direction of the beeb works far better because the reader changes their mind gradually. Not knocking it, its been exceptionally successful for them over the years.
  8. In what way is it "arrogance"? Because it happens to even slightly question an SNP policy?
As I said, jumping on things like this is counter-productive.

If you express doubts over the safety of something then you are saying it is dangerous imo. If I say ‘I have doubts over the safety of something’ im also saying ‘that couldnt be dangerous’.
It is arrogance as there has been academic study with regards the Finn’s approach to baby provision and they are world leaders in combating infant mortality, the figures speak for themselves. I read the BMJ regularly and I know that the letters section is a very political animal, with doctors representing their opinion as fact to coincide with political belief.

These scare stories do nothing to improve confidence in the baby boxes and promoting the healthy start that the whole package provides children.
Many of the things Prof Blair points out are actually covered in the advice in the pamphlet which accompanies the baby box.

Its pretty clear that the BBC making it one of their top news stories is furthering their snpbad editorial stance.

Its a subject I feel passionate about, having dealt with several cot deaths and been traumatised by them anything which can reduce that risk and has been shown to contribute to reducing these instances is a great thing. Cheap politicking to stick the boot into the SNP could lead to someone deciding against getting a baby box, given they are of more benefit to vulnerable children who’s parents are more likely to read a headline article than understand the minutiae of one letter to the BMJ.
  9. It's not "only in Scotland". It's a letter in the BMJ expressing concerns over the general idea, no matter where they're given out.
People need to stop thinking that anything that's even remotely negative about something that happens to also be SNP policy is some kind of "SNPBAD" attack. It's counter-productive.

Its the way its framed ‘experts’, which actually id one doctor writing a letter to the BMJ who actually doesnt say its dangerous just that there is not much in the way of study into its use.
Now theres two points to this, its blatant SNPbad from the bbc and secondly it stinks of arrogance from this ‘expert’.
The beeb are so desperate to discredit anything the Scottish government does. Its more than a baby box, its clean good quality clothes, its a bath and ear thermometer, its a baby carrier, its toys, books, its an introduction to music and most importantly its the same for every kid born in Scotland.

From a medical point of view imho the real experts are the RCNM who say that this is a great thing for babies, it encourages babies to sleep in a safe position with good quality bedding, things which are contributing factors to reducing SIDs in babies. There may be no academic work in the UK but the lasting evidence is in Finland, that when used along with the similar services to that which the Scottish Government is now implementing here, the whole package reduces infant mortality rates.

Only a shower of Wankers like the tories and tory media would attack something good for children with such vigour.
  10. Got tickets to see 76ers @ Magic when I'm in Orlando in November. Luxury suite with a decent view so hopefully I'll get to see Embiid and Simmons in person.
Knicks will be better than people think this season because of the coaching but we'll still struggle to get anywhere near the playoffs. Need young guys to impress and Porzingis to come back strong whenever he's back and we'll get Durant and Kyrie in Free Agency over the next couple of years.

As a regular visitor to Orlando i’ve adopted Magic as my NBA team, can I just say watching Magic beat the Lakers with a 3 pointer at the buzzer was honestly one of the most intense sporting experiences ive ever witnessed and the crowd (yes an american sports crowd, I was shocked too) went absolutely mental, it was amazing. The Am-way is by far and away one of my favourite sporting venues to visit, it is absolutely brilliant, the staff are fantastic, the pre game experience really good, the quality of basketball is excellent, facilities better than anything i’ve had elsewhere (including Yankee stadium), its just generally excellent, ive never been in a box so keen to hear how that goes, but honestly they make you feel like a VIP even if you’re in the $10 seats. Hope you enjoy.
  11. Hearing that the madness has won through and East/West Juniors will actually be joining at level 6 and there will be a 4 way play off for 1 promotion place, hearing that this is what the SFA are pushing for. If this is the case its utter madness. I can see the point in the West Juniors just slotting in despite it not being my own preferred option, but to have two east leagues covering the same area in the pyramid is mental.
The tayside clubs should have to go to the Highland league, has to be a line created somewhere and the existing line is perfectly reasonable.

  12. Not just moved on. If they couldn’t find anywhere to go (remeber they are homless) then all their possessions were being seized by the council and destroyed. I can’t begin to imagine how cruel you have to be to do this, even if you are ultra royalist these people without a home are still your ‘subjects’, if you can’t swallow seeing how some people live then do somthing about it.

Had no idea about them seizing their property thats fucking disgusting.
  13. Apparently the finance director of Patisserie Valerie has been arrested over some financial scam. Have any pie and bovril members ever stolen huge sums of money from their work? Lots of people laughing at this guy on social media but I wonder what would happen if the choux was on the other foot.
