I had heard the same about Adams from a guy I work with

I didn't think allen would be going on loan anywhere when we signed him. You just can't tell. Hopefully he will be excellent and find the huge jump in level easy to get to grips with but there's no guarantees. Look at the players that have scored barrowloads of goals in the lowland league for instance but can't hack it in league one even. Who knows.

Adams is 22 yr old, young in terms of experience but same age as Tait. I’m hoping he’s a first team player.

Your only going to know that once he plays at a higher level. Until then we have zero idea on whether we can rely on him as competition for Finn's place or not. Friendlies and perhaps the league cup will show us what he's got.

  3. Still very early days. The priority signings of Tait , Ross and a goalkeeper to challenge Nicky are now done and dusted and we also have McKenna.  I would expect the management to have a couple of loan deals still available .  I expect the young right back and the apprentices will all be assessed over the coming weeks to see who is up to staying in the first team squad and who will be loaned out this season. That will then highlight areas we need to strengthen ready for the league cup campaign.

    An article from last year.

I had always believed that Albania had the most supporters per capita and that Scotland was second but they don't seem to get a mention.

If the majority weren't going to watch the two bigot bros it would be a far more impressive stat.

I've seen nothing whatsoever from Hogarth to date that would merit any sort of assurance or guarantee about game time, all the more so considering that we will be playing at a higher level next season. Overall, he simply has not been convincing enough for me. The reports from Thistle fans aren't exactly encouraging either, so it may again be a scenario of two goalkeepers who are much or a muchness and who could both reasonably expect to get a decent number of games. Neither strike me as undisputed No 1 material. All pretty meh really.

I never mentioned guaranteed game time I said that I would expect him to be the number one and stay number one until his performances are not of a decent enough standard to stay number one any longer just like every other team does. I can't see him signing on again though without him having been given some sort of assurance that's the case.  It's his jersey to lose for me and his form was excellent the longer he played in goals. That chopping and changing didn't really do either of the keepers any favours but we managed to get away with it.

Maybe in the minority but I think he’s been signed to be No.1. 85 appearances at Championship level so he’s pretty experienced - played 21 league games for Thistle last season as they finished 3rd. I think he’s in ahead of Hogarth tbh, at least initially.

I'd expect Nicky to start as number one. I very much doubt he would've signed up without some kind of confirmation that the situation would be completely different from last season.  Now I'm sure he knows as well as anyone else that he will have to perform to keep the jersey but he won't have signed up to not play.  Sneddon will get his chance of Nicky slips up and then it's his responsibility to keep it

    Astute post.

You will find it tougher in this league than all think. I don't think Lang is off sufficient quality.

If a team as shite as ICT can finish 3 points off 5th with a positive goal diff then we have nothing to fear about competing at this level.  There are a lot of players in this league that have played for us and been decidedly mediocre but have done well elsewhere.  Lang needed a good run of games being fit and he got that last season.

Where do you think you will end up? Curious,  no doubt you are a happy camp but the championship is very competitive week in week out and after a couple of dodgy results you plummet. I think you will do well and be top half but our mutual friends found that out last season 😂😂

Push for top 4 hopefully if we stay relatively injury free. A good finish this season will put us on a bit more even ground regarding prize money for next season. I mean we're about 5/600k behind you for a start simply down to that and that's a huge gap to make up. If we could close that gap this season then make a bit more of a push for it next season I'd be happy enough.

I 100% wouldn’t want Stevenson at Falkirk particularly on the wage he’ll be commanding and the age he is.

Regarding Benedictus vs Lang. The last I seen of Benedictus was 2 seasons ago when you won league 1 and there are a lot of similarities in the impact he had for you ie. Leadership and what Lang did for us.

I think both are good, Championship level defenders.

Benedictus is 32 and I'd say his best days are well behind him now. Injury hit season at that age could see him struggle to get back .Stevenson at nearly 37 and as a fullback is a big no from me. At that age one minute you think everything's fine then your ability just falls off a cliff and everything's a struggle. I mean the other thing is Hibs defence has been pretty rotten for years and he and hanlon have been 50 percent of it during most of that time.

What's the issue with the redeveloped Lesser Hampden anyway?  Appreciate it doesn't hold many fans but is there any other reason QP aren't just there full time as originally planned?

It doesn't make them enough money from away supports obviously due to the restricted capacity.

Just noticed Queens Park are playing at their wee stadium until at least the 5th of September before returning to Hampden. This will more than likely include a good few league home games. How is this allowed?

Certainly isn't a level playing field but it's allowed because it's queen's park. Haughey and lawell are the main players in Scottish football and if they say it's ok then it's ok. Why were queens park given so much money for a stadium they couldn't afford to run and paid nothing into it's regeneration when they were originally offered £1 for it. Why was haughey allowed to arrange the loan that the sfa got to pay queen's park for Hampden. Why having sold it are queen's park now allowed to play back at Hampden in a one sided deal. I mean Scotland training at Hampden once in a blue moon is going to damage the pitch far less than queens park playing there every second week. The whole thing is dodgy as feck and yet noone seems to raise an eyebrow.

I’m sure you are aware of this but we can’t compete with what Raith are offering players in wages.

I think Hanlon is a good signing for the Championship and will do well in this league.  I’m not sure about the 3 year deal though.

Raith will have a good chance of promotion and if they do go up he’ll need replaced as want good enough for the Premiership last season and will be over 1 year older by then.

Like the majority of fans, I’m not sure Stevenson, who’ll be 37 in January is that great a signing.

If we were going to be pushing the boat out for a player on a 3 year contract then it certainly wouldn't be a centrehalf in my opinion.  A 36 year old fullback on a 2 year deal is another one I'd be very wary of.  Neither have played a lot of football over the last year either.  Were they not both in the side we pumped out the playoffs that night at TFS.

Raith have speculated to accumulate tbf:

Average attendance up by 2,000 last season which will make them £500k

2nd place prize money over finishing 5th or 6th in the league is another £300k

Plus a share of 2 x 6k+ crowds for their play off games, maybe another £100k

Obviously the cocaine money is temporary whereas the navy blue pound is permanent, but Raith should be in a position to challenge for promotion for a good few years if they don't go up

Most of the cash from the playoff games goes to the spfl to fund parachute payments. The clubs don't get very much at all.

Think it is time that we introduced development players into squad or decent prospects will not see a good career pathway and we could lose a few

It's what we all want but at the end of the day they have to be good enough. They are training with the first team every week but if they aren't good enough to play at the moment they are better going out on loan and learning their trade.

  15. I don't know about anyone else but I'm more than happy with our starting centrebacks. One is 26 and one is 29.  I don't see it as an area where we should be giving  a 34 year old a 3 year deal. We need an extra body in there as cover of course but a 3 year deal no chance.

That's 2 36 year olds and a 31 year old in raiths defence next season . Should be interesting.

I'd have taken Hanlon, but if you go back a few pages (well, a lot cos we're massive) you'll see there was debate on here about whether or not we should sign him. I'm not sure what side of it SD was on, but I'd be surprised if he has suddenly changed his tune.

I'd have taken him on a one year deal no bother but our days of giving aging players 3 year contracts are hopefully long gone. Never tends to work out well.

You’re starting to sound like a PARS a fan.. all of a sudden he signs for Raith and you’re glad he hasn’t signed for your team. Utter nonsense, yous would have wet your pants if yous had signed him.

Not on a 3 year deal. Christ no. I'd have taken him on a 1 year with perhaps an option but 3 years no chance

Everyone seems happy enough with Ross signing, but I'm not so sure - he doesn't improve the starting eleven. Of course it was important to retain the majority of last season's squad. But a lot of our squad haven't exactly excelled in the championship when they previously played there. This is a position I think we could have tried something a bit different, take a chance on a freed youngster from a big club or a random foreign chap. to try and improve the first team.  We know what Ross can do, and so do all our opponents in this league, this was a chance to roll the dice, We have Miller -  Nesbitt and McCann could fill in this position if needed

I don't agree.  Hes a completely different type of winger from miller and adds a bit of pace and trickery. Couple that with millers odd injury problem and he's a fantastic addition to the squad. Fingers crossed he will be starting the season fully fit and after a proper pre season compared to last season too which will make a big difference.

  19. Livi will get 1.2 million plus for coming rock bottom last season that's about double what Raith got and a million quid more than 3rd bottom of the championship. You then add in parachute payments.Even only selling their usual half a dozen season tickets will give livi a big advantage over everyone else.
