Without including regional competitions, wartime football and so on, I'm pretty sure the record is 8 meetings. It has actually happened quite a few times, including a couple of years ago.

    1978/79 - Hearts v Morton - 4 x League, 2 x Scottish Cup (replay), 2 x League Cup (2 legged tie)
    1980/81 - Celtic v Dundee Utd - 4 x League, 2 x Scottish Cup (replay), 2 x League Cup (2 legged tie)
    1986/87 - Aberdeen v Celtic - 4 x League, 3 x Scottish Cup (2 replays), 1 x League Cup [the first 6 meetings were all draws!]
    1987/88 - Dundee v Dundee United - 4 x League, 3 x Scottish Cup (2 replays), 1 x League Cup
    1988/89 - Aberdeen v Dundee United - 4 x League, 3 x Scottish Cup (2 replays), 1 x League Cup
    2009/10 - Alloa v Cowdenbeath - 4 x League, 2 x Scottish Cup (replay), 2 x Playoffs
    2021/22 - Airdrie v Queen's Park - 4 x League, 1 x League Cup, 1 x Challenge Cup, 2 x Playoffs

The last one between Airdrie and Queen's Park is the only time it has included meetings in four different competitions, which I suppose does point to it being a less likely occurrence now with the removal of replays and two-legged League Cup ties.

Prior to last weekend there was a chance it could have happened with Dunfermline and Raith this season - they've met 6 times already across the League, Scottish Cup and League Cup, and could have faced off in the play-offs.

One other a quirk of the QP & Airdrie games that season was that QP didn't win a single game in 90 minutes yet still got promoted over Airdrie. If that's not unique then it must be rare.

Both cup games were draws that went to penalties, the four league games were two home wins for Airdrie and two draws. And both playoff legs were draws with QP winning in extra time of the 2nd leg.

  2. The new community kit is really good (my son got his a few weeks ago, and his team won their first game that they wore it in) quite similair to last years home kit but with a few improvements in my opinion. The quality is pretty good too, especially compared to the kids previous kit which felt like it was made of tissue paper. I'd have been quite happy for the first team to be wearing that kit this season.

It's a completely bespoke kit (albeit probably just a tweak of last years Macron kit). It's infuriating that we can arrange a bespoke kit for our community teams, but can't manage that for our first team(s).

Last year's 3rd kit is still a bug bear of mine. I spent about £100 to get one for each of my kids and we didn't even wear it for one match.

It doesn't help that the marketing pictures in George Sqare featured Simon Murray, only for him to leave about a week later 🤦‍♂️

The Admiral kit for me is the best home kit we've ever had. I still can't make my mind up about the poka-dot away kit, but it will always be linked in my mind with that playoff final and the celebrations afterwards.

    He died.

He also cleared our debt and funded a youth academy which future Scotland players Jack Hendry and Kevin Nisbet played in, as well as current Thistle first team players like Aiden Fitzpatrick and Ricco Diack. And thanks to him we're fan owned. He also started Partick Thistle women, who are top six and off to a cup final in a couple of weeks.

So it's worked out pretty fucking well, thank you very much.

We did most of that while we were still amateur. 😉

Robertson and Shankland being the current examples.

We've been fan owned since 1867.

Our women's team still are amateur and seem to be doing pretty well. However, I will concede that Thistle Women were the better team in our recent Scottish Cup encounter.

Every single save he made was straight at him, you’d have been raging if he didn’t stop any of them.
Ryan Mullen just had his 10th (IIRC) clean sheet in our last 14 games, I know who I’d rather have in our goal.

Ryan Mullen couldn't even get in our team when we were strolling League 2. He was kept out of our team by the guy Ferrie comfortably kept out the team the following season.

It is, but it's not particularly big unfortunately.

Feel free to fire ahead with all the innuendo.

According to the website the social club is open to home fans only tomorrow.

Supporters Bar 1867 – As the club have launched initiatives for Members, Season Ticket Holders, club sponsors and business partners to bring a friend along for the game it is anticipated there will be increased numbers seeking access to Bar 1867 on the day and therefore we have restricted access to Bar 1867 to be for Home fans only on the day.

Bar 1867 will open from 12:30.pm until 2.45pm and then immediately after the game with admittance after the final whistle also limited to Home supporters.

We have had quite a few players move on from QP and go on to be capped for Scotland, but does anyone know the last time we signed someone who has previously been capped for the Scotland 1st team? (not including Callum Davidson)

Thanks very much to @Dave for doing the research, that I couldn't be bothered to do, to answer the above question on the latest episode of the Spiders Talk Podcast.

I'm not going to tell you what he discovered, so you'll have to listen to the podcast yourselves to find out 😉

He hasn't even been on the bench in either game so far in January. I have a feeling he was sent back as soon as we entered 2024 to make room for some new faces to come in.

The match report for the Thistle game last Tuesday on our website mentioned that Hepburn was missing due to illness.

Make of that what you will, but it may be that he'll be back in she squad one he has recovered?

Say it quietly but the Women's team finally getting the opportunity to play at Lesser ain't a bad start

I've been critical on here previously about the women not playing at Lesser, so credit where it's due, this is great news. Hopefully it's not just a one off and there are more opportunities for them to play there.

I also hope there is a good turnout, firstly to support the girls who have been great all season, and secondly to convince the powers that be that they should be playing there regularly.

Apart from anything else, and I'm in agreement with the comments on the mess we've got ourselves in with Lesser, I'd get Celtic tae feck. Remember when they played at Hampden when Parkhead was being rebuilt. We were under big pressure by the SFA to allow it and the thanks we got was wee Magoo and his club being taken to court over unpaid bills.

Plus, if their fans can't be trusted to behave, that's another reason to turn them down.

To be fair, I think it was the Feyenoord fans that caused the trouble in this instance. But your point still stands.

However I think the Haughey connection will mean Celtic will be regular tenants.

My understanding is that there are a couple of folk standing, who will have fresh ideas and look to engage positively with fans. They will have my full backing.

This, at least, is the most encouraging thing I've heard in quite some time and is long overdue. I dont know who's standing, but if they plan to improve the fan engagement then they'll be getting my backing too.

Sunday 10th December QPWFC play their biggest home game of the season, a top of the table clash, at ……..….New Tinto Park.

Wednesday 13th December Celtic under 19s play Feyenoord at……..…Lesser Hampden.

I generally try to avoid mud slinging and rumours on here, but given how bad things are at the club right now I've stopped caring.

I was talking last night to someone who was at Lesser with Celtic as part of their team doing their Celtic TV coverage. Apparently there was a run in with some QP officials when the Celtic folks explained to them that the stadium wasn't suitable (re H&S regs amongst other things) for having both spectators and broadcast crews in at the same time. The suggestion was made to me that we are unlikley to be allowed to play there in any televised games in it's current state. Were we to leave Hampden any time soon, that would obviously be an issue.

There was also apparently a security/safety issue when a ball girl got caught up in a pitch invasion.

I can't verify any of this, and am only going off what I was told (by someone I trust to know what they're talking about) but it does make you wonder how we managed to get the rebuild so wrong?

Huge game next Saturday with, other results depending, a loss sending us bottom with Morton and Arbroath having a game in hand.

Time to see just exactly how much RV was responsible for or whether indeed it's just simply the fact the players aren't up to it, (or up for it).  I still believe there's a decent core of players there, Spong, Turner, Thomson, Thomas, Robson and, Ferrie/McKenna when fit are, IMHO, more than good enough for this league.  I also believe that there are very decent players in MacPherson, Tizzard & Paton that are screaming to get out.  It will be an extremely interesting game.

January transfer window opens in three weeks and I'm doubting whether we will have a) a permanent manager in place to make a call on who comes and who goes, or b) whether we actually have the funds everyone says we do to make any acquisitions that will actually improve the squad, rather than just adding numbers.  I fear a repeat of last year where Connor Shields and Euan Henderson added very little.

On that note, I caught in passing RV's pre match interview and cant recall anything being said about Fox being absent yesterday?

Both Morton and Abroath play their games in hand during the week, so it's no impossible that we'll be bottom by Wednesday night.

A few years ago I went to a couple of the QP ladies matches. They weren't very good. Today they beat Kilmarnock and are 10 points clear at the top of the league. Congratulations to the players and staff for the massive improvement.  Now let's see what can be done with the men.

I've been to quite a few games this season, including this afternoon. Had to fight for it today against a physical Kilmarnock side? But they earned their victory, despite having one player sent off in the 2nd half. They have been very good all season, and are well deserving of their league position.

They also deserve the chance to play at Lesser infront of a reasonable crowd, but I won't hold my breath.

    1) He spent two days in Belgium watching the Anderlecht game last week just before the Thistle game.

    2) He blocks everyone with even the slightest bit of criticism on social media

    3) The way he treated Tizzard in the Airdrie game

    4) And yes, his post-match interviews. Not once has he accepted responsibility for the results. Not even once.

Regardless of how relevant any or all of those points are to a discussion about whether he is the right person for the job or not, I dont think any of it makes him "not a nice guy".

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have met him a few times since he arrived, and I found him a genuinely likeable person who was happy to take some time to chat, and get pictures with my kids etc.

For what it’s worth, the committee have a solid stance that there is a budget (unknown but not much if you take a hard look at what we brought in) and first team movements have to work within that budget. So if the coach wants someone he has to move someone else along. The problem with that inflexible approach, which might work at a big club, is that logically if you are bringing in someone to improve things and you punt someone who isn’t part of the plan, the money involved in both directions is going to have quite a gap.

But we have the added burden of the whole Beuker plan which has no scope for short-term adjustments. Veldman looks unsettled by the lack of quality he has adopted. I can only assume that young players on similar programmes in Holland and Belgium are much more advanced  than what he has here. But those clubs have been at it for decades and we’re just at the start of it. That’s precisely why it was labelled as a “ten-year plan”.

The CEO and DOF are the two who should be making this work, and it should be ramped up over a longer period. One is about to scarper after starting a bin fire, the other is focussed on that elusive career move to the SFA.

The young man you refer to is probably better off where he is.

For me, your second paragraph sums up where the main problem lies.

My take on it is that Veldman has been put in a very difficult position where he has been hired to work within a rigid framework of giving lots of young players game time. He can only work with the players he has available to him, and I think some of his recent post match interviews have shown signs of his frustration with this. I'm also not sure he has had much say in player recruitment.

If the rumour that was posted on here a few weeks ago is true, that he is expected to stick to pre-determined substitutions regardless of how the game is going, then that is very concerning.

Similarly, the policy of only signing very young players (the last time I checked only 3 players in our squad are over the age of 25, and only 1 of those is over 30) is very restrictive. I'm fully behind the goal of developing young players who can do well in our first team before moving on for a reasonable fee, however it seems like the ballance is all wrong. Part of a young players development is by learning from watching, training and playing with older, experienced players. For that to work we need a better mix of youth and experience. No matter how far through the 10 year plan we are, that will still be the case.

Likewise, there is a place for data and statistics in football, lots of successful clubs use this to their advantage, but you can't be a slave to it. Sometimes you need to go with your gut.

Going by press reports, it looks likley that Beuker will move to Ajax in the next month or 2. In that case we should be looking for someone to replace him that is more flexible in their approach. I'd be very interested to see how Veldman would get on if given a bit more freedom.

I also agree with the comment made earlier that adding someone to the coaching staff with more experience of the Scottish leagues could be beneficial. And/or perhaps the new DoF could have this experience?

The current trajectory is obviously concerning, but I was encouraged by a recent conversation with someone better connected than me, who assured me that Veldman is a good coach that the players all enjoy working with, and that there may be a move to bring in some more experience and depth to the squad in January. Whether this coinciding with Beuker moving on is just coincidence or not is open to speculation, but hopefully someone near the top has seen what the rest of us have been seeing for weeks and is willing to proactively move to improve things.

Yeah was annoyed at this at the time, yeah Murray goes in rash but didn’t think anything other than a yellow at the time. I’ll admit watching it back it probably did merit a red. But like you say, sometimes the Linesman won’t even get involved in a foul that’s right in front of them…It must be down to the referee who’ll either say, challenge me if you see something, or stick to offsides/throw ins.

My son was the ball boy right behind the lino when the ref came over. He claims to have heard the whole conversation.

Ref was going to give a yellow but lino told him on the radio it should be red, so ref came over to discuss. From the refs angle it was yellow, but lino said it was dangerous and should be straight red.

What has happened to the good old game of football, eh? I was disgusted at QP’s own hospitality prices for the recent Scotland games… but these domes and their prices are beyond a joke.

I think the game of football will actually end up getting in the way of the profitable business venture ideas that owners of clubs and stadia have.

    IMG_4851.jpeg

The domes aren't used for match day hospitality. They're for Christmas party's etc on non match days.

Though it would be amusing to see the ball smacking off the pod while the folk inside spill their soup and champagne in fright.

I’m impressed we have an organisational structure.

According to the website, the men and women first teams are now the only teams on the Squad page. Young Queen’s Park has very recently been moved to the Foundation page where, oddly, the Men’s and Women’s squads are also listed.

On the Fixtures page they show the Men, Women and Young all listed which is inconsistent with the Squads.

On the Community tab they have changed things around and it’s not as obvious that this is the Foundation page but if you scroll to the bottom you can see the banner showing it is the Foundation. Within that is the various levels of Community football for both adults and children. Whilst it’s generally believed that “community” is entry level and part of the stream to academy/first team, it’s not. Community, at all clubs, is a revenue stream. The Women’s team is not Community football but the girl’s teams are, ergo the Women’s team shouldn’t be under the Foundation organisation.

I’d make an educated guess that they are on the same fixture/squad pages as the men because the SWPL is a subsidiary company of the SPFL. But again, this is at odds with the Young team as they too play in an SPFL league.

I’d love to see an organisation chart but if the structure of the website - which is our window to the world - is to be believed then I imagine the organisation chart is like one of this pinboards you see in crime drama movies with random pictures and bits of string everywhere.

Not to nit pick, but to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding by anyone reading the above post, the Young QP info is under the Academy tab on the website, rather than the Commuinty/Foundation page.

Young QP and the U18 team are part of the club rather than the Foundation. I dont know why the squad lists have disappeared from the website, but it would be good to have these back to put faces to the names mentioned in match reports etc.

The women's team and the kids (boys and girls) Community teams are all part of the Foundation. There is no pathway from the Community teams to the Academy (which has caused some confusion amongst poorly informed parents on more than one occasion) and its open to all regardless of ability etc. This is indeed a way of bringing in income for the Fundation.

I believe at least some of the staff/coaches for the woman's team are employed by the Foundation, as are some of the Community team coaches. So not all are doing it for free.

I assume that the women's team players are all amateur (on expenses) but I don't know for sure.

I agree that there is a fair bit of confusion with this setup, and it would make far more sense for the Women's team to be part of the club rather than the Foundation.
