  1. Been excellent overall imo. Not the tallest obviously but has great agility and knows when to come for crosses and when to stay. Shouts and moans like f**k at his defence which every good keeper should do. A bit of a penalty shoot out hero as well. Really hope he re-signs for next season
I have no idea how true it is, but I was speaking with someone at the weekend who had apparently been told that Hart will not be re-signing next season as he plans to focus on his studies. Like I say I have no idea how accurate it is, or where the information came from in the first place. I really hope that it's not true, or that he can be talked into changing his mind, as he has been excellent and would be very difficult to replace.
  2. Hoping to start the re-development of Lesser at the end of this season but everything depends on the deal with the SFA getting signed off . If it doesn't start on time then do the SFA really want what will effectively be a building site next door to the stadium during Euro 2020?  I doubt the council and polis would accept that with 50,000 punters descending on the place. The sensible thing would be to start the work after the Euros and let us play at Hampden until the end of season 20/21
I agree, that definitely seems to be a very sensible approach which should be in the best interests of all concerned..... which almost completely guarantees it wont happen.
  3. Another question to ask. Who has improved and who has regressed or gone sideways from earlier in the season? I think the regressers outnumber the improvers. That's a problem.
That's a good question, however I don't think there's a straightforward answer to all of it. Players can certainly improve, and you'd like to think that a lot of the young guys would be learning and improving all the time. But with exception of losing fitness due to age or injury, do players really get worse? I suppose attitude and work rate can go backwards in some cases, and players will reach their level where the may never improve beyond, but players don't just become worse do they?

I would say McLean is the standout player in terms of improvement, which seems to have come about with him playing in a position that seems to get the best from him. McGrory has also improved, probably due to an extended run in the team, which he may never have got had Jambo not had to fill in at the back.
Moore and East keep impressing, but haven't had the game time others have enjoyed.

There are probably mitigating circumstances to take into account when considering players who could be seen as having regressed (I.e. are now playing to a lower standard than they were earlier in the season). Jambo has been played out of position, which contributes to why he hasn't been performing to the standard he did a few seasons ago. Gerry has been struggling for fitness returning from injuries, and is perhaps better suited in the role Jambo currently fills. Hawke may just need one good game where he scores a couple to get him on a roll again, and is possibly suffering from not having the opportunity to form a consistent partnership due to regular lineup changes (admittedly that one is clutching at straws a bit).
As for the likes of Grant, Mortimer, McGee, when they've played they have looked to be improving, though in Grant's case his confidence seemed to take a knock after a few errors. Mortimer has always given 100% but with little to show for it other than tired legs, but he has shown this season that he is better suited on the wing than up front.
The rest, Hart, Gibby, Dom, Summers, Roberts, Galt, Gow, have remained fairly consistent in my opinion (for good and bad)
The only other one to mention would be Peters who just doesn't seem to fit into Mark's plans, and so hasn't really featured much and it's hard to judge consistency.

Assuming things don't take a huge downturn between now and May I'd like to see Mark given the chance to build on things next season, but I do agree that the committee should always be assessing things, and shouldn't fall into the trap of just sticking with the status quo because of other issues they're dealing with. Hopefully we'll get a run of results now that will take the questions over Mark's future away, and we can all look confidently towards a promotion challenge next season. What could possibly go wrong?....
  4. I think that we're under achieving. Not sure if it's the players or the coach, or if it's just momentum, which I'm a believer in.

I'd start playing the young guys, partly as they're more likely to be with us. Gow should be binned; a couple of incredibly outstanding passes followed by daftness. I'd have one of the young guys in definitely.

A few players have been tapped up. Nothing to be lost by dumping them.
I think under achieving sums it up, we've played some great football and just not got the results. The momentum is part of it, and if the strikers started putting away a few more chances the confidence goes up and the goals may start to come a bit more freely. Hopefully now we've come out the other end or a run against the "better' teams, and with little to no pressure with regards to league position, we can pick up a few results and build the momentum again.

It'll be interesting to see who stays and who goes at the end of the season, and a decent run towards the end may be enough to sway the undecided that it's worth hanging around for another crack at it next season.
  5. The only evidence we have of his transfer abilities is Alan Gow. I felt sure we'd utilise the loan market. I'd take a 1-0 win in every game between now and the end of time because winning is the best feeling in football. Winning in style is better, but I'd rather win ugly 1-0 with the buzz of victory than play well and be disappointed with a 2-2 draw.
Fair point about Gow being his only signing. The optimist in me thinks that Gow was a good idea on paper that just didn't work out. Bring in an experienced guy to help a young squad, however he hasn't been fit enough, and has been too selfish on the ball and too lazy/unfit off of it to really be helping the younger guys.
To be fair though, I realise I have been pretty critical of him, but he has shown flashes of what Mark obviously hoped to get from him, and we can't soley blame Gow for us not getting the results some of our performances have merited.
  6. At the last home game some of the guys I sit with were discussing the differences between life under Mark compared with Gus. We reckoned that under Gus we probably would grind out a few more results, but the football and attacking setup under Mark is more entertaining to watch. As for which we prefer, that's much harder to answer. Are results more important than entertainment? some would definitely argue they are, and that a win is a win no matter how it looks. Personally I like the formation we are playing and think it suits the current squad. You never felt there was a 7-1 win under Gus, but now you feel that on a good day when everything clicks, there is always that chance. We just need more of those days.
If Roberts has a close season to bring in some of his own guys to suit the way he wants to play, would that lead to better results next season? I don't know, and I probably have more questions than answers there.

  7. In all seriousness, holding on to as many of the squad as possible should be a priority. Hart, Gibby, Mcclean, Galt, Kurtis Robert's, Hawk, Moore to name just a few, losing some of them would be a big step backwards. That said we lost most of the squad at the end of last season and with that in mind this season has to be considered a relative success.
I would hope we'd stick with Mark Roberts (and that he'd stick with us), and give him a crack at a full season

  8. One win in seventeen games .where do we go from here ?
    1. Build for next season
    2. Start trying to convince as many of the decent performers in the squad as possible to stay on for next season, tell them they'll go down in history as the last Queens team to play at Hampden if it helps.
    3. Find a goal scorer.
    4. Tell Gow he doesn't fit into 1,2 or 3
  9. Kind of looks to me like you've got your own agenda here pal and I'm not taking part in it. New member with 8 posts sorting the world out. Seen it too many times. If you want to get involved, get involved. Carping from the wings changes nothing. Get yerself a dose of realism while you're at it.
Divisiveness is the last thing the club needs right now.  Unless of course that's your agenda?
That sadly seems to me to be a very cynical reaction to my attempt to enter into a constructive conversation about the issues affecting the club. I've no agenda other than seeing the club i support be in the strongest position it can be. I don't view anything I've said as 'carping' rather raising a point for discussion with other supporters, which is surely what this forum is for. I'm certainly not trying be divisive, in fact my comments have been about the very opposite - including more people in the future of the club and creating a stronger relationship between the club and its supporters. As for the number of previous posts on P&B, I didn't realise I needed to have fulfilled a quota before I was allowed to voice an opinion. True I'm a relatively new member, as I only discovered P&B in the last year or so after it was mentioned by a fellow supporter, but from memory most of my previous comments have been looking for information on how to get more involved (membership) because sadly there is no information on the website. As I have said, I welcomed the meeting last week, but couldn't attend on that date/time. I am keen to get more involved where I can (and can afford - time/money) and of course that is for me to be proactive about, but my personal view is that the club could do more to encourage involvement of supporters. Again it doesn't need to be radical, but simple things like more info on the website, i imagine, would be relatively easy but effective. Like I say, that's my opinion, and I'm posting if here as I'm interested in the views of other supporters. You don't have to agree with me, but please don't assume I'm out to single handedly ruin the club for my own amusement.

  10. Feel free to forward any innovative ideas to the club secretary. Perhaps there’s some digital medium they haven’t heard of yet. Or just come along. Pretty sure it was flagged up for a few weeks. Some folks travelled over 20 miles just to be there. Make it what you will friend.
I think you have unknowingly perfectly summed up my main concern. If there's an attitude of 'we had a meeting, if you couldn't make it that's your problem' then that will surely only be detrimental to the club in the long run. As I said in my previous post, it would seem in everyone's best interests to get as much support, backing and involvement from the fans and members as possible in the decision making process. If fans feel part of the process it should encourage some to stick around and become more involved, which is surely what is needed more than ever at this time of big changes. Conversely if there is little or no fan engagement, some may feel unappreciated and may spend their Saturday afternoons (and their money) elsewhere. As has been noted in a few P&B threads recently, attendances are dropping, and if other local clubs enter the league, they may turn the heads of casual fans (as well as players) if they present a more appealing alternative. As for 'innovative ideas', I don't think we're in need of any revolutionary 'digital mediums' just better use of the ones we already use. I personally feel that much better use could be made of the website to inform fans of goings on at the club. I appreciate that it requires manpower to do these things, and I don't know if the website is manned by paid club staff or volunteers, but if it's the latter, then my point above again stands - encourage people to get involved by giving them any and every opportunity.
  11. It's not "secret". Just amongst QP fans.  There's still some scurrilous rats from the press sniffing around. TBH, it was relatively poorly attended given the changes that are rushing toward us.  Hopefully more will come next time. I'm going to Lisburn on Monday so I'll see if I can hunt down that couple who just won the lottery.
In that case it would be good if the club were to find a way to share it with as many fans as possible. The more fans that are informed and involved, and therefore (hopefully) supportive of the plans, the more chance that the imminent changes will be positive for the future. The Q&A event was a good and welcome idea, but obviously these meetings can't be at a time that will suit everyone (and possibly it being during the festive period didn't help) so other ways to get fans involved could perhaps be considered. I don't expect anyone who was there to share what was discussed on this forum if they have been asked not to, but I must admit I'm intrigued what sort of information would be considered a scoop by the press.
  12. The event was well publicised and open to all, including you. We were asked to keep the information that was available to ourselves. Gladly that has been done.
This was an event I had hoped to attend but wasn't able to due to other commitments. I had hoped that after the meeting there would have been some information posted on the website. Given that the event was open to both members and supporters I assumed that the information given would be made public. Was there an explanation given as to why the information was to be kept 'secret'?
  13. Any truth in the story that the team drove there and back to Wales without a stay over ?
Seems a bit mean when the SFA give each Club 5k for trips outside Scotland in this competition.
According to the post match interviews, some of our lads had work to go to this morning, so that may have ruled out an overnight stay.
Fantastic performance in the 2nd half, hopefully we can perform at that level a bit more often in the league. If we can, we could give ourselves a real good chance of promotion. Or maybe a decent cup run.
Sadly i couldn't make the trip down to the game, but seeing the scenes behind the goal at the end on TV has left me wishing I had negotiated harder.
  14. Does anyone know what happened to Tony Quinn? I seem to remember a bit of noise on the club's website and Facebook page a while back when he retired from playing and joined the coaching staff, but he seemed to disappear from the dugout months ago with no explanation given. I'd actually forgotten about him being on the coaching staff until I saw him sitting in the stand on Saturday. Is he still involved with the club or has he quietly parted ways?
