  1. Anyone know what the story is with Slater ? Blink and he disppears? Probably no coincidence that midfield in the second half was not as effective as in the first. Was i imagining it or did Wullie have a terrific save in the first half but i don't recall seeing it in the highlights.
Ray was asked about the subs of both Slater an Maclean in his post match interview on our YouTube channel. Both were precautionary to avoid any further injury.
  2. Hi folks, just like to say hello, having finally made it into the online QP family after 70+ years.
I've read the forum regularly, feeling it's by far, the best way to keep up with what's happening at the club, but without contributing so far.
As I mentioned I'm in my 70's, and with my Dad and Grandad both from Mount Florida, with QP in our all DNA, it takes us collectively back 125 years. I live quite a distance from Hampden now, so not so able to attend socials and meetings with the president , but still manage all the home games and around half of the away games. I was at Brechin on Wednesday, but will post on that topic separately.
As one of the Auld Support , l like many others young and old, was pretty torn about giving up our amateur status. But the reality of the present Hampden financial situation being untenable, and the prospect of dropping through the trapdoor into oblivion, I really believe the present committee have done a grand job in moving the club in the right direction to keeping our Club alive and it's history intact.
Whether being able to purchase players, with all the pitfalls involved, will be any more successful than recruiting from the juniors and growing our own, only time will tell.

Nice to have you on the forum. I tend to agree that this is the best place to keep up to date with the goings on at Queens, as the club themselves are fairly poor at communicating with fans. That said it has improved recently with the Q&A sessions etc.
  3. I assume you mean the away top. Sounds pretty cool but can we make a St George's flag optional? [emoji14] (maybe sell a patch in the club shop that people can sew on should they desire [emoji6])
We are getting a new strip next season... I heard that Admiral and Macron are a couple of potential suppliers. The early designs have apparently been shown to some members of the supporters' association committee for feedback and it's been positive. Rumours that we might be going back to Irn Bru colours for the away top....
I always liked the Irn Bru coloured away kits, so would be quite happy with that. Any idea whether we'll have a third kit (with or without flags)?
  4. It'll go down as a classic QP jersey, synonymous with that night at Broadwood.
Believe we're getting new strips next season. Have seen other clubs giving the fans some input with the designs, which would be a nice touch if we could do the same.
Wouldn't be against us promoting a cause or charity and adopting their colours either. If we're going big on local community, I quite like the idea of something along the lines of having all the flags of the communities within the southside on the outline of the strip. Sends out a message of inclusivity and that we're a community club here for everyone.
Any idea if we'll be sticking with Under Armour, or if we'll be changing supplier?
Like the idea of promoting a charity, and representing the community, but not sure about how we'd pull off the flags or landmarks idea.
Perhaps find a local charity to promote. Theres a kids charity toy shop round the corner, dont know much about them but perhaps theres something to be said for partnering with something near by like that.
I'm assuming Barrs will continue to be the main shirt sponsor?
  5. Agree with that, there is an element of running before we can walk at the moment.

Understandably the focus is on the pitch just now, but I would like to see off the field efforts stepped up as well.

Football for a fiver is a good start, but we've got 50,000 free seats at every home game for the next nine months so let's get the community guys out in the schools giving away free tickets and try to get local kids into the habit of coming to watch us.

Commercial as well. When was the last time we had adverts other than Barr's at a home game? At Lesser as well, half the boards on the far side have fallen apart and have been like that for a year or longer, hardly an incentive to potential advertisers to get involved. Let's get them fixed and sell the rest of the spaces.

Couldnt agree more. Of course all of the above is made easier if the team on the pitch is performing well. That part seems to be moving in the right direction, so let's let people know about it, sell them on the ambition and encourage them to be part of the journey. Get people invested at this stage and take them with us to Lesser.

And as you say use all this to get more sponsors on board.

Hopefully it can all snowball from there.

  6. Joffers got a wee shot at the end last week. Wonder if he'll get to start this week. Think King will do well in this environment. A high press will serve us well here.
I see Paul Hartley was quoted last week as saying Cove are as good as Liverpool at Balmoral and the fans get praise too for turning out in HUGE numbers [emoji23][emoji23] Pin this up on the dressing room wall.

Joffrey in for Finnie. Will he be right back? Or is it 3 at the back?
Finnie, Slater and McGrory on the bench.
No McLean or Alfie in the squad so not many attacking options on the bench. Going to be an interesting afternoon.
  7. I guess it’s possible they’re some that are training during the day on the days others aren’t training.    The talk later on of becoming established in the championship and even hoping for premiership won’t happen without FT.  So if that is the plan then it’s likely the very first steps of that are involved.
It's possible, but it's the first I'd heard of it. Would find it surprising that Bell has been signed full time but is yet to get a start.
I'm not complaining as I think Muir has earned his place as number 1 and continues to impress.
  8.  “Queen’s Park have a project which is exciting. A full-time structure, everything being professional and something a bit different to what I have tried."

Full time structure? Intrigued by what he means by that.
Sounds like the ambition of the club, or at least Bell's version of it, will lead to some exciting times over the next few years.
    Here's hoping.
  9. Maybe not a deal breaker for the majority but as had been said, not very welcoming is it? cant imagine children , in particular, being happily searched by, them can you? Anyway, a statement from the club would hopefully clear this up but........
Not particularly welcoming no, but for a total newcomer, probably not unexpected. They dont search children anywhere that I've ever seen (football, concerts, theme parks et.)c, I assume due to some sort of child protection/PVG issue. My son has even asked me on more than one occasion why I was searched and he wasn't so even he can see the inconsistencies.
He's also fed up of me stuffing 4 cans of Super Lager down his sleeves.

As has been stated by others, apparently a number of the committee read these forums, plus some folk are contacting the club, so it will be interesting to see whether they acknowledge it.
  10. Lastly on the searching issue, is there any possibility that the Police have asked the club/stadium management to enforce this?
I have no idea how likely this is, and again it doesn't explain why it doesn't happen at Scotland games, but it's just a thought.

Finally, apologies to any Elgin fans still following this thread. Bad enough that they had a long journey in terrible conditions to see their team get beat, but then the match thread gets hijacked by a debate about our stewarding policies.
    Sorry guys.

  11. I have heard, and understand, that at least four members of the Committee  read this forum, lets hope that they can now see how unhappy we all are with this policy and do something about it. Not being a member I cannot go in the main door and so far, as I said earlier, I have not been frisked. However, if I am picked out should I not let him touch me, and if he does, should I 'phone the Police and have him charged with assault? Would that not prove embarrassing for the club when it hits the newspapers? As it surely would.
I have posted on here before that I know of plenty of occasions when non members have simply paid for admission at the table set up inside the main entrance with no questions asked. I have never seen anything to say that the main door is for members only, but maybe it's an unwritten rule.
There are many aspects of membership which are not well communicated (I.e. nothing on the website/facebook/programme to encourage new members)
Hopefully that's something else any committee members reading could put on the agenda?
  12. I agree with the point you've made that clubs should try to make games more welcoming for everyone.
But I don't think fans should just accept getting searched. As you've mentioned - it's inconsistent, in terms of who's searched and in comparison to other lower league matches. It's also inconsistent with games held at the same stadium that would probably be classed as higher risk (Scotland games and non-old firm Scottish Cup semis and finals).
I think fans should use their voices to (constructively) feedback their concerns about QP's search policy. Whether that's to stewards on the day (who can hopefully let their bosses know), by by contacting the club directly, or by speaking to the club's fans/club members on forums.
I appreciate getting searched isn't a concern for you, but again as you mention, it may put others off. Which is ultimately what QP don't want to do!
A perfectly reasonable response, which I think echoes many of the points I've been making.
The key word in your post is 'constructively'. I have never said that people who disagree with the searches shouldn't raise their concerns with the club. My original post was primarily questioning the actions of those who make a fuss arguing about it with the stewards (and making a ti.....ok I'll drop that bit now [emoji6])
Again, I agree that of course we want to encourage as many people as possible to come to games and feel welcome, but as per my response to PASSANDMOVE I'm not sure it will really be a deal breaker for the majority of potential new fans.

  13. I too am extremely annoyed to be searched at home games, totally unnecessary. As has been said, if we're too entice new supporters to lesser I hope were going to get rid of this prompto.
You miss the point 'Ben Reilly'  the vast majority of fans are making here, its not how you feel about it, its how potential new supporters feel!

I do understand the point about new supporters, however I I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion.
Compared to most on here, I am a fairly "new supporter" having only been able to regularly get to home games in the last few years. In all that time there have been searches and I always just accepted it, and never thought much of it.
I dont really buy the argument that we're limiting the numbers of new supporters due to searching. I would expect that most people these days are used to occasional searches at sporting and entertainment events, especially when they see a fairly well know firm of stewards outside the stadium. Most wouldn't think anything of it.... until they see a 'regular' giving the steward a hard time about it (and making a tit of themselves[emoji6])

To be clear, i am not saying that i think the searches are necessary, and would have no issue if the practice was stopped. My point was simply that, while i accept the inconsistencies in how it is applied, i dont see what all the fuss is about a 10 second pat down on the way into the ground.
  14. Exactly.
Fans should just accept being treated like this. And clubs should never aspire to make football an inviting , welcoming place to go.
We, as fans, should just shut up and not "make a tit of ourselves", amarite Ben?
    Oh alright then, I'll bite.

Yes, I think fans should just accept that when you go to a QP match at Hampden you may get searched, just the same as you may do at other games or other forms of entertainment such as concerts, as that is the policy at that particular venue/event. I dont plan to check, but I wouldn't be surprised if most clubs have some disclaimer about the possibility of being searched in the policies somewhere on their website/programme/back of the ticket etc.
I fully agree that for QP games the policy is unnecessary and inconsistent (males searched but females aren't, folk who go in the main door dont need searched etc.).
However my question was what difference does it really make whether your searched or not? (unless you're trying to smuggle something in, in which case give it to your sister or go in the main door), and what good does complaining to the stewards do? (and making a tit of yourself in the process), their only doing the job they've been asked/told to do.
If you have an issue with it then by all means raise it with the committee or the secretary. While as many have commented, it might not be taken on board, perhaps if enough people do it they may eventually act on it.

What are peoples objections to being searched? Is it just because we seem to be the only club who do it? Or do people think it's a violation of their rights? Or do people just think its unnecessary? I dont know, but personally it doesn't bother me and I'm happy to accept that the policy means I may be searched and it really doesn't have any impact on my day.

As you will see from a number of my posts on P&B over the last year or more I very much think that QP (and other clubs) should be doing everything they can to make games more welcoming for everyone. Of course, some people are put off by the thought of being searched, but perhaps others are more comfortable going to a game, or bringing children or elderly relatives when they know that there is less chance of the person sitting beside them finishing their half bottle then lobbing it on the pitch, or setting off a flare in the row behind them. Extreme and unlikely examples I realise, but not out with the realms of possibility.

  15. Just thought maybe The Man Who Nobody Knows had a pal who could get us some lush green turf suitable for our silky soccer.

Have to say I’ve never experienced anything other than courtesy and goodwill from the folks at Airdrie. I think some of our fans are still traumatised by THAT season but that wasn’t Airdrie’s doing. Good pies. Toilets you can dry your hands in. Civil stewards. Better than some grounds I’ve been to.
Dont get me started on the Hampden hand dryers, UEFA category 4 stadium that can host champions league finals and Euro 2020, butyou cant dry your hands after going for a piss.
Looking forward to Dyson airblades throughout the upgraded Lesser.
