  1. Do you need a 'safe standing' area in the lower leagues? Can't it just be conventional terracing? That would increase the capacity and the atmosphere.
Much like building regulations, the current rules on safe standing (and a whole load of other safety issues) aren't applied retrospectively to older grounds, but any new builds/upgrades have to be done to the standards in force at the time of building.
I hope we do have a standing area (either when we move in or in a later expansion) but we won't be allowed anything like Ochilview or Cliftonhill.
  2. I expect to be at games especially as trial games in September with crowds are going ahead. We can easily get 1,000 socially distancing in Hampden
Seating 1000 people socially distanced at hampden isn't a problem, but some other clubs in the division may struggle to get anywhere near half that. Would the league (or the government?) put a cap on attendance across the whole division to try to keep things the same for all clubs?
Also, seating may be the easiest part, the challenge will be reducing the risk of spreading the virus elsewhere in stadiums, toilets, concession stands etc. 500 people all entering through 4 turnstiles may not be allowed (again not a problem at Hampden, but difficult at other grounds).
Also, not sure how they'd enforce it, but will singing or shouting be banned? Churches etc have been told they can't have people singing even wearing masks?

Plus how will the stewards frisk people from 2m away.
  3. Alloa have confirmed the signing of Nicky Jamieson.
Great move for him. Quotes from Peter Grant Snr suggest he will be a squad player initially which makes sense.
Will be interesting to see if he can establish himself at that level which a couple of posters on here have stated he will do so comfortably.

Interesting that while we're signing a number of players from Championship, one of our best players makes the move the other way.
Good luck to Nicky, I really hope the move works out well for him, especially if the suggestion is true that he only left us because full time football wasn't for him. That's a brave, head over heart call to make, so credit to him for doing whats right for him.
I wonder if our Peter Grant jnr put a word in for him to his dad.

  4. Morrison is out of contract isn’t he.

Hopefully Hibs don’t want Doig to go to a higher level next season, he was some player!
Apparently Doig has a long term contract with Hibs, but perhaps they may let him come back on loan, especially if we're making a contribution to his wage
  5. So who do think will be the next big signing? Who is out there that we can realistically bring in?
I'm assuming we dont have a budget for transfers, I.e buying players from another team, as all the players we've brought in were out of contract at the time, (in some cases very conveniently recently released). So I would guess we're talking about any new signings being guys who aren't currently under contract. Which rules out Messi this summer.
  6. Exciting times with the new ground
Can’t see it clearly on the plans but has the suggested standing area not made it into the final design?
I noticed that someone had commented on the clubs Facebook page asking about a standing area. There's a reply from the clubs account saying there is some standing included in the plans, but it will be dependant on approval by "licensing authorities, city council etc." Hopefully this gets the go ahead.
  7. Regarding Sa,l my brother who lives in Bathgate and supports Livingstone, has just told me that he hears that Sal is on trial there.
I've been thinking recently that I'd be pretty disappointed to see Sal go as I didn't think there were many teams, even in the championship, that would be able to give him a better offer than us. However, if it's true that he has a chance to go to Livi and play in the Premiership and earn Premiership money, then I certainly would never grudge him that.
Obviously I'd love him to stay, but if he moves to Livi I hope it works out for him and he is successful there.
  8. Whenever the season starts I will not be there. This is a completely different club now who are no longer the under dogs, instead most games will now be favourites due to budget. Seeing the young player of the season signing for another club sums it all up really. It will not be long until a team is fielded with no experience of playing at ameuter level, which will be a further sad day for me if no one else.
Genuinely very sorry to hear that there are people who feel this way. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but I do hope you will continue to stick with us in the future.
I voted for the move to professionalism, and I am still 100% convinced that it is the right thing for the club going forward, however I will admit that I understand where you're coming from with regards to the likes of Moore and Jamieson moving on. As I've said before I had hoped that some of our younger players (particularly the likes of McGrory and McGee who had worked their way through the youth ranks) could have been signed up and given the chance in the new setup.
I hope that in time we will produce even better players through an improved development system, that can play at a high level in the game.
True, we are no longer the last bastion of amateurism (and its debatable when we really last were) but for many of us that's not why we support Queens. We now can (I hope) focus on being a successful local club with strong links to our community, still the underdog in this countries biggest city, without the baggage associated with the other clubs we share it with. We have the opportunity to build a fanbase and fill our new home with people who choose QP as 'their' club, regardless of history, finances, amateurism or professionalism, but because they feel welcome and attached to it.
I'm excited about the future, and the journey we're going on, and I really hope that you and others who feel the same way will continue to be part of it.
  9. Suppose it's about that time again. What a contrast to this time last year. Worry over the stadium and knowing we were a poor summer of recruitment away from disaster. We couldn't in our wildest dreams have considered ending up in as strong a position as we have.
We don't really know what this season is going to look like and there's an outside chance that it might not even happen at all, but it's tough not to get excited at the prospect of a full-time setup and what looks like strong recruitment.
It may be the first time I've ever gone into a season thinking 'we should really be looking to win this league.' That's not to suggest I think it'll be any sort of skoosh case for us. This is a tough level of football where attitude is as important as ability. Anyone thinking they're coming down here for a few quid and an easy ride will soon be found out.
The team is shaping up very well. Two good keepers, with Grant, Slater and McHugh giving the basis of a very strong looking spine. Add the quality of Galt out wide and it looks even better. His experience at this level will be as important as the hundreds of Premiership and Championship games between the other guys.
Would expect Edinburgh City to be strong again and Stirling Albion can't be messing around if they've signed Andy Ryan. Think it's important to couple the expectations with realism. Even a full-time side needs time to gel and my hope is that defeats and draws, which will inevitably happen, won't be met with hysteria. The fact that this is my main worry on the football side can only be a good thing. It beats being worried about the Lowland League in front of one stand at Lesser Hampden.
Totally understand the pelters we'll get for our new found position. Everyone likes to see the moneybags sides struggle and we'd be exactly the same if we were watching another club doing the same. We'll be the team that everyone loves to beat, which I quite like tbh. Hopefully adds a wee bit more back and forth in the stands.
Speaking of stands, I hope we get a send off at Hampden before moving into our new surroundings. It has its drawbacks as a stadium, but it's obviously intrinsically linked to very fabric of the club and it wouldn't feel right to leave without a proper send off. Very much looking forward to moving to what will hopefully be more atmospheric surroundings, though.
Definetly nice to be going into the season feeling excited about our prospects, rather than wondering which end of the table we should be looking at.
Ironically this next season will start (whenever that may be) much like many others, with an almost entirely new squad. Obviously the difference this time is that we've been recruiting from the Championship rather than the juniors.
I fully expect to get the 'Cove/Edinburgh' treatment this season as the team with money to spend. We'll hear plenty of accusations that we're buying League 2, but the simple truth is that we're not doing that.....we're starting now to buy League 1 next year. League 2 is just a necessary stepping stone on our journey up the leagues [emoji6]

In all seriousness though, while we should rightly be confident about our chances, we will still have to earn anything we achieve on the pitch, and cant expect to just turn up and win games, no matter how much our players get paid or how many hours they train.

I'm looking forward to the season getting started, but fully expect there to be plenty of ups and downs before next May. This really is a great opportunity for us to achieve things, and I just hope we all are able to get to see it happen from the stands.
  10. Anybody else fancy bottom league of 18 or 20 including kelty and Broadway as 4 leagues playing 4 times has had its day, though known it's not likelly
I like the idea of expanding the league and only playing each team twice, as I too am fed up of playing teams anywhere from 4 to potentially 8 times a season (including playoffs, cups etc.)
However I worry that it could lead to fewer games with much to play for (promotion, relegation, playoffs) later in the season. So they would need to have a good number off playoff spots available to aim for (or avoid) to keep it interesting till the end.

Not a fan of any kind of split, so for me the league either needs to be kept at 10 teams playing 4x, or expanded to at least 18 playing 2x.

No issues with adding kelty, brora etc to an expanded setup.

I definitely dont want any Colt teams in the league. That would be the worst thing for Scottish football.
  11. My reading of the Maclean and Kouider-Aissa thing is that they're likely being held back as "new" announcements in a time where there's not likely to be much activity. Think Sal let the cat out of the bag on the awards video! I also find it unlikely that he'd be agreeing to participate in anything if he'd been told he was surplus to requirements.
    I hope your right.
I did think it would be strange for Sal to be featured in the awards video if he wasnt staying.
  12. The clubs young player of the year shown the exit door.
Sad to see Moore go, always gave 110% every time he played. However, I dont think it's unfair to say he was unlikely to feature reagularly in this new era.
Really hope he gets a club where he gets the chance to play regularly and score a lot of goals (but not against us obviously [emoji1])
  13. Player of the year awards up on facebook and YouTube. Very well put together package given the circumstances, well done to all who had a hand in producing it. And well done to all the well deserved winners, difficult to argue with any of the results. Also great to see an interview with Sal, does that mean he'll be today's 5pm announcement....?[emoji848]🤞

  14. Will be sad to see some of last seasons squad go. I hope we might keep some of them, Galt, Muir, and Jamieson in particular, but as others have said, it's possible full time football doesn't suit every one.
I'd also be very keen to keep Sal. I'd be surprised if there are many teams that could make him a better offer than us at the moment, and with better full time players around him his goal tally could be even higher next season.
Would have liked us to hang on to Mcgrory too, although I realise that we're looking to bring in players perhaps above his current level and he may have struggled for a place (much like Joffrey who I also liked). That said the opportunity to play and train with a higher standard of player could possibly have pushed him to the next level, but I guess we'll never know. The romantic part of me also liked the idea of at least one player who had worked his way through our youth ranks featuring in the first team in our new full time set up.
Good luck to all the boys who have moved on and thanks for your service to the club. It's a difficult time to be without a team, and I hope they find a new club that suits them.
Lastly, pleased to see that Ross Millen has signed a new contract at Killie.

  15. I hope all Spiders fans on this forum are keeping well, coping with lockdown and not otherwise too badly affected by the current situation.
The Hampden question was something that was going through my mind too. Hopefully some common sense and decency will prevail and some arrangement can be made so we can have at least one final send off there. I'd like to think that the Committee had been giving this some thought prior to the virus putting everything on hold.

For anyone who hasn't seen them yet, check out the YouTube channel for the interviews with Galt and Ray. Between that, the reruns of some classic highlights, and messages from former players on Facebook, Sean and the rest of the media team are doing a great job to keep giving us QP some content to enjoy
By now we should have had the Player of the Year awards. Who would folk have voted for as their player and young player? And does anyone have the result to date from the votes taken on the away buses.
Difficult choice for me, but think I've narrowed it down to Salim or Galt (with Jamieson and Muir in the running also) though some of the January signing such as McLean and Grant also impressed. Young player for me would probably be McGrory.
