Today was terrible no doubt about it but I'm glad the club don't share some of the short sightedness on this thread. From writing off young players who have played 2 games as 'lowland league level' to wanting a manager (who admittedly can do a job in the short term), but has been around forever, yet never really sustained success at any club. Wouldn't we rather build foundations to sustain success than be in the same situation 2/3 years later?

I think the club are trying to do this which i get is controversial as it means we may suffer in the short term. Unfortunately, this means that we have players that are not ready right now but may be in seasons to come. Equally we have young coaches that are clearly flawed as they are learning on the job, but as they go and get more experienced i believe they'll improve in all areas, which includes recruitment, game management etc.

The appointment of McCabe at the start of the season coupled with the reintroduction of the academy set up, is clearly an indication of a long term project that which is something that excites me as i don't think we've really had that before (hence the decade of consistent failure in this league).

I completely get how a lot of people just want out of this league asap no matter what, (especially if you are lucky enough to remember much better times) but i have a genuine belief that with this approach we'd have a far better chance of eventually getting out (AND STAYING OUT) of this dreadful league.

This squad is going nowhere fast and are starting to look like a league 2 side. The manager making a load of signings to warm the bench and lack of basic tactical understanding are both mysteries, and the team's lack of resilience is quite frankly unparalleled.

The forwards and other individual players are more than capable of finishing in the top 4. The problem is the defence and goalie and the way the team is coached/set up.

Perhaps, which is why this bizarre signing montage of kids who won't be regulars in the first team when we need defensive competence requires a bit of a sanity check at the club.

Already writing off a boy that’s just signed when does it ever change give the boy a chance atleast McCabe must see something in him if he has signed him only a week into the window and still plenty of time to go to get a couple more experienced heads in

You might have a point there if the track record for McCabe signings this season actually improved the side in some way as opposed to ranging from abysmal to mediocre. Theyve generally been the level of rubbish I would expect to be signed to pad out the likes of Clyde's squad.

Regarding "plenty of time to get more". People played this same tune over the summer, and we ended up with a lightweight squad, with very few new signings who could be considered to be of reasonable quality, who have us where we are right now. Ergo - cynicism is well deserved regarding current player recruitment.

Thirdly - it is a complete and utter mystery as to why we need a forward heavy team (signing a 7th striker who cant get a game in England's 10th tier... really?..) when defensive capability is sorely undermanned and lacking in options, form and quality.

I don't mind signing young players. If they're good enough they're old enough and indeed some of our younger players are performing better than their experienced counterparts. For instance, Fordyce is having a stinker, Murray Johnson is already 1000x the goalie Lyness is (admittedly Lyness isn't that experienced in terms of games played but you know what I mean) and Devenny and Deveney are showing up better than expected. Experience doesn't necessarily mean quality nor does youth necessarily mean naivety or being out of their depth. Admittedly I'm hugely unconvinced by Jay Riley and Joe Dixon not having any sort of CV or reputation in senior football is a concern. But I won't write the boy off yet. Hopefully he's a find. There's talent in this team and we're not far off being a side capable of promotion if we fix the glaring but fixable problems we have in the squad at the moment. Which makes these problems all the more frustrating! We're crying out for a midfield destroyer/shithouse, in the Marvyn Wilson/Martin Hardie mould (even a Paul Paton) and a proper old school centre-half (would love a Liam Fontaine, Jordan Forster or Kyle Benedictus type). They don't have to be but the profile of these sorts of players is usually that they're experienced so, while I'm happy to add youth, hopefully these positions are addressed. I'd be disappointed and concerned if they weren't.

If the players we have were good enough, we wouldn't be 6th, regardless of age.

Also - at this stage of the season, if we aren't signing players who will start games rather than backfill considering where we are in the league, the club are doing it wrong.

I'd go further and posit that the current team are considerably weaker than any of the past 3 seasons squads

    OH MY! What a surprise!

Perhaps for once this will spur people to understand that factual evidence is of more value than feelings and knee jerk reactions.

Not a lady myself so I suppose it’s not really my place to decide what’s acceptable and what isn’t but the club’s “Lady’s Day” in hospitality comes across as a bit outdated, particularly the awards for best dressed presented by the man of the match. I think it’s a good thing to try to encourage women to come to the games, and I think the heart’s in the right place, but not convinced this event is the best way. Just seems a bit condescending with the focus on prosecco and dresses. Also seems a bit overpriced at £72 but I’ve never attended hospitality so I don’t know how good it is in terms of value.

This is scotland, just rock up to the club and tell them you identify as female

  7. While results have been good on the field, I don't think it's the right approach to treat lack of depth in the squad as anything less than quite concerning at this point.

Some people seem comfortable for any future signings to be deferred till next summer by the looks of things,  but with few options on the bench and no cover for injuries and suspensions it will really damage the clubs ability to accomplish anything with this season.

I heard on the grapevine (an airdrie forum) that James mcpake was coming out of retirement for a cameo season and he had a host of clubs to choose from and he chose airdrie and they wanted to pay him £500pw and he has chosen to play for free and he isn’t bothered for money

That makes no sense. Why would the dunfermline manager quit his job to play for a season, and why would we sign a 38 year old?
