  1. It is not remotely surprising that there are significant numbers of people posting and taking issue with this over on B&WA who evidently haven't read the freely available background information.

Other legitimate questions are being asked, and that is positive, but sifting through the dross to try and get a handle on the state of debate is a very frustrating experience.

It seems you either love Ross or despise him, there doesn't appear to be any middle ground. There's people who won't hear a word against him, which is silly, then there are people who go out of their way to show he wasn't actually a good manager with us, which is even sillier.

    I'm in the middle ground.

He can be a bit of a dick at times, but take nothing away from what he achieved at Saints and what we all owe him for that.

  3. I had hoped we might be able to extend Hladky's contract, but if the player budget has been pretty much exhausted, that is less likely now.

That's pretty much the only thing I would lament in terms of our business this summer (and even that doesn't take account of the realistic scenario whereby Hladky was offered an extension but declined).

Overall, unless the club has put itself in a perilous state (which it won't have) then there isn't too much to find fault with, for those of us who know how to manage our expectations.

  4. I just made the mistake of looking in on the B&WA forum, and seen the Vaclav Hladky thread was busy, so wondered what the latest news might be.

f**k me - what an abysmal shambles that forum has become, with men-children grasping for attention and ruining every half decent topic with their inane, vacuous slabberings.

Shame, as it used to be a decent place to post.

    No, not at all.

You expect an 'on fire' reel to show a player at their absolute best.

In the first couple of minutes this shows a shot that goes wide, and a tame shot straight at the goalkeeper.  And this in the sixth tier of English football.

I just don't understand why that would be on his CV?

If there's better stuff later, then whoever did this for him didn't do him any favours.

Doing a 'knee slide' to 10 guys at the back of the goals just isn't a great look for someone we're hoping will be able to perform at Ibrox, Celtic Park, Tynecastle etc.

Edited to add: watched the rest of the reel now, and there are much more promising glimpses there - a couple against Carlisle too and they're 4th tier.  Also, from what I've seen so far JG has made excellent signings, and hopefully Junior is an undiscovered gem.

The point is that its equally daft to be unduly critical as it is to shoot your load over a compilation of clips on youtube.

I certainly wouldn't be judging how any player is likely to perform here based on a few minutes of cobbled together video footage.

Desperately hope Junior has a great career with us, but that showreel doesn't fill me with huge amounts of confidence.

I know Scottish football isn't great, but to do well in out top flight, I'd be expecting someone to look better playing against League Two (and lower) opposition.

Maybe just needs better players around him 🙂

    This is a wind-up, right?

Naismith hit the ground running at Ross County, but he finished his time there miles better than when he first signed.

That makes sense. He was probably still a wee bit raw when with us, though it was clear that he would develop into a very good player with the right coaching.

McGinn has surpassed my moderate expectations, to be honest. I reckon it would be very tough on him to be dropped for another player coming in at right back, but if that player proved to be better, that's fitba.

He might be a better player than McGinn, but McGinn is still a good Premier League right back. I'm not sure there is enough in it to justify having one of them either out of position or on the bench each week.

Aye, I would agree with this, and it was kind of my point (though you have put it across more effectively).

I think we could do with a versatile defender who can cover across the back areas.  Not easy to come by, of course. Maybe someone with a bit of experience who has been used to being slotted into the different positions as required.

Out of curiousity, how often did Naismith play in a central defensive role for us, and was he ever played as a left back? I can't remember.
