No hiding place from a result like that, woeful from start to finish.
I think we all thought at the start of the season we'd be there or there abouts for promotion, Johnston Burgh's spending spree put them as favourites then a straight shoot out for 4 or 5 other contenders including the Buffs.
We had a slow start to the season then were top by January after 19 games, albeit other teams had games in hand.
The record over the last 10 games has been abysmal, 3 wins, 7 losses and a goal difference of -9.
Truth of the matter is, that is relegation form, had we not put the points on the board earlier in the season we'd be staring at 2nd division football.
My tuppence worth on it is this:
The manager has been dealt a poor hand, strikers Mackin and Boyd missing most if the season, had they played, the games we dominated without scoring or struggled to score might have been won and certainly would have had an effect on that -9 goal difference since January.
The Defence was never the same two weeks running due to injuries and suspensions, yesterday it was unrecognisable and had never played together that I remember, hence why it shipped 5 goals to a relegated side.
Midfield story is the same, Wee Campbell looks a cracking prospect, and there is dig in there but where's the flair? With Campbell and Blair in the middle we have two gattuso's but no Pirlo, Benji's missed most of the season, Jordan had injuries and suspensions, Gavs missed a good few games.
U20s have stepped in a good few times and are looking like good prospects for the future but they need leaders on and off the park to talk them through the game and mentor them.
Mind when big Jambo started, never won a header, caught out of position time and time again, but by the time he'd moved on, he was arguably one of our best players, that was down to good coaching and mentoring from senior players. That seems to be missing at present.
The under 20s are reffered to on the park as "Wee Man", no even worthy of a name.
I genuinely think Tiff and Durranty have brought a bit of professionalism back to the Club over the last season and a half.
Are they the guys to take it forward? My answer is, IDK, let's see what they do with a full squad of first team players for a season. No easy task as we don't have a huge squad.
We don't have a big budget, it cost us a fair wad to put all the bits in place for the SFA licenss bringing Scottish Cup football to Kilwinning and to give the fans a facilty they can be proud of.
This was always going to be a short term pain for a long term gain and Id say we are still suffering from that short term pain at present.
Last point, during Chris Strains last few Seasons at the Buffs we had terrible results at the tail end, and for similar reasons listed above.
He's gone on to prove himself at a club with arguably more resource, he has also mibe had that wee but of luck it takes to win things that seemed to elude him at the Buffs.
Here's hoping we get that wee bit of luck for season 24/25
