Agreed, in fact every one of the new signings for me so far look like upgrades on the players they’ve replaced.

I actually shudder what McGinn and Oliver would bring now, in a starting berth anyway. Useful off the bench but no more than that. Nesbitt could still start games but maybe only around 10-12.

On edge? I’ve been a Falkirk supporter for far too long then 😂 i’ve witnessed games where we’ve been 2 or 3 down at half time and the players haven’t been booed off. I do think there are a a small element of our support who think we just need to show up. Booing a team at nil nil 45 minutes into a new league season certainly qualifies as wild in my book, considering how many surprise results you see this early in a season, to be displeased this early on is to be honest just strange.

Yeah, I’d say on edge. Part-time football isn’t exactly that far away as it stands, though if we keep 4000 gates, that’s tremendous backing.

Agree on the part time thing. Annan went from looking organised and capable (bit Edinburgh Cityish) to a total gang after 60 minutes. Blowing out of their arse and completely incapable of getting out of their last third. Has to be at least partly fitness.

Fair point but based on this view, remind me again how we’ve made a complete arse of things these past four years??

Thats my take on it, booing is ok but only in circumstances where its been an absolute disaster and the players need a wake up call. Booing at nil nil at half time in the first game of the season is absolutely wild, if we’re going to boo everytime a game is balanced like that, we could be doing it loads this year. If teams rock up with 11 behind the ball, we are going to have to bide our time.

I think a lot of fans are just on edge. Expectation is high with a lot riding on this season so that’s reflected in that type of reaction at half-time. It’s not great but not really surprising and certainly not “wild”.

  5. So that’s (potentially) two of our biggest rivals lost a game already this season in Cove and QOTS, the same as Dunfermline last season. Might not mean much but I thought it’s worth pointing out and another reason to be cheerful this evening.

Poor overall as they were, I don’t think Buchanan and Hetherington belong in that haul of shame (slightly different era as well). Anyone agree?

Yep, very noticeable. The statement the day after the 6-2 shambles was about giving John and Paul as much money as possible. This gave an overly close relationship vibe that didn’t feel quite right.

The slight (and sensible) distancing is the right move, and re-aligns the relationship to what it should be given the less than convincing performances in the 22/23 season. There will be plenty of opportunities for back slapping and cuddles if and when McGlynn meets expectations…….and right now, it feels like a big “if”.

I doubt there’s ever been more pressure on a Falkirk manager in a single season than the upcoming one.

Zak Rudden? Jordan McGhee, Tommy Robson, Reghan Tumilty, Andrew Nelson, Davis Keilor-Dunne, Aidan Connolly, Alex Jakubiak, Louis Longridge, Declan McManus, Anton Dowds, & Aidan Keena .

We've had good players, many of whom have done well at a higher level after leaving us.  The problem is that we've surrounded them with too many failures who dragged them down.

Loan players? Not having that in the same breath as the aforementioned (as useful as they were). Louis Longridge flattered to deceive. Tommy Robson fell away. Jordan McGhee was okay to a point but still wouldn’t fit my bill for me being keen to come back.

I posted before the play-offs had taken place saying that I didn't think McGlynn should be sacked even if we didn't go up, but that was obviously before what took place had happened. The players were getting it tight at Airdrie, but a number of people around me were having a go at McGlynn too. I think the issue was that it was up there with one of the most tactically inept displays ever from a Falkirk manager - even folk who don't know the ins and outs of formations or how you set a team up could see that he'd got it horribly wrong. The players undoubtedly chucked it, but he is the one that organised them in that fashion up and failed to change it when it was imploding.

I think that remains an issue, even for a lot of fans who don't necessarily want him gone and think he has enough credit in the bank to continue. Right now, the immediate association that comes with thinking of McGlynn and a number of these players is the most embarrassing 45 minutes many of us have had watching Falkirk. That Tuesday night capitulation won't be easily forgotten. As others have said, we'll need a really, really quick, strong start next season or I imagine the heat will come pretty quickly.

I’ll never forget that Tuesday night, that first half was humiliating.

However, when we got to 5-2, there was a spell just after when it’s up there with the most I’ve ever cheered the team on. We could’ve got it back to 5-3 or with a bit of concentration and nous at the end at least 5-2 (we actually won the second half).

Despite the shocking experience, there was still an element of what could’ve been.

Anyway, even if a miracle did happen, I’m pretty sure Hamilton would’ve taken care of us after what I watched on Saturday night.

  10. Lots of chat about having the biggest budget in the league, but does that really count for so much if we’re recruiting in the lower end of the full-time market? Agyeman signing has already weakened one team for next season, maybe more from the same league?

Perhaps we’re going to reshape our transfer policy now.
