The rankings at http://scotscores.theroonba.com/clubrank/clubrankepr.html and other pages have been updated to show the new linear leagues. Apart from VOL and the Second/Third Division top 2 it's quite tight everywhere, which is to be expected now we finally have tiers 6-9 sorted.

Premier - Linlithgow winners; Mussleburgh, Oakley, VOL relegated.

First - Dunipace, Kirkcaldy & Dysart, Glenrothes top 3; Burntisland, Coldstream, Rosyth bottom 3.

Second - Whitburn, Syngenta, Heriot-Watt top 3; Ormiston, Peebles, Hawick, Craigroyston bottom 4

    Third - Bo'ness and Armadale

If you're going to relegate us, at least spell our name correctly - Musselburgh 💙 I have my reservations about us this season, but I'd wager large we won't be relegated.

a good hot natured affair in Tranent, not a lot of football played in the first half it has to be said. Second half a bit more, from 2-0 Linlithgow will have hoped to see it out but a stunning free kick from Renton and a late penalty got it back to 2-2.

All in all probably a fair result that will rule Linlithgow out the league now. Have to add the young boys on the park at the end trying to antagonise the Linlithgow keeper should be ashamed of themselves, no need in that whatsoever.

Good game for the neutral as I was, albeit quality was in short supply, probably as so much at stake! Renton's free kick aside!

Same referee as Penicuik v Musselburgh on Saturday 😉 Soft penalty for Tranent equaliser, free kick to Tranent for Lithgae's 2nd - draw a fair result.

Probably in a no-win situation as if they don't fast track then they'll struggle at the top end in years to come? Wonder how many more games are needing refereed compared to 5-10-15 years ago (with U20, women, and now VAR) - and what the referee numbers are like... (I saw an English FA reporting 25% less refs than last season).

That's a tough one for the ref as it is fired at the goalie from close range, it's only over the line for two or three frames in the video. The AR isn't in line with the goal line which also doesn't help. Though let's be honest, the player is incompetent as well - hitting it straight at the goalie on the floor!

Not sure how you can say it was onside by quite a margin. It's hard to get the exact moment of the flick on but the Musselburgh's players right foot looks to be on the 6 yard line and the Penicuik player doesn't seem to have reached that line yet.

    mus.JPG

Take it back 2 or 3 frames - at the point of delivery. He's onside then and ⬆️ imho. 2 legitimate goals, none given! This is not a witch-hunt against referees and AR's, but they must do better.

  4. 10 hours ago, Ginaro said:

If only more players packed it in and took up refereeing, they could help the referee shortage and show the officials who they think are rubbish how it's done.

The goal that wasn't! Adds fuel to the argument about officials' incompetence, especially when you see the other "goal" for Musselburgh, after the red card, that was chalked off for offside - onside by quite a margin!

Give Penicuik all the credit you like for keeping going, but Musselburgh were harshly treated twice!

PTB, what were your thoughts on Sauchie, as you allude to they are going through a rich vein of form?

It's been a strange conclusion to the season for Musselburgh, a big rebuilding job over the summer required I assume?

Sauchie looked very assured, BB. But then they were gifted 2 early goals, then played against 10 for more than half the game, so difficult to assess in 2nd gear!

Yes, big changes needed at Musselburgh in the Summer. I'd anticipate only 5-6 of the team that started on Saturday will be regulars next season. 20220409_142154.thumb.jpg.e7a72fdc881b9f92d56dd4f973180aa2.jpg

  6. Musselburgh travelled to Sauchie with not a lot to play for whilst the home side were, based on their recent results, in their best form of the season, so expectation levels weren't high in the Mussy supporters ranks! That said, a decent away support travelled on the supporters bus as usual, more hopeful than expectant.

However, it only took the home side 15 seconds to take the lead. Many suspected offside, but I was in line and it was an unmatched run from deep that connected with a through ball to give the home side an excellent start. The second followed too quickly, and if Mussy were guilty of not matching a run for the first, they were guilty of not closing down the winger for the 2nd. A red card followed for Page - another Musselburgh player sent off! - so it was damage limitation for the remainder of the game. A third followed in the 2nd half for Sauchie who saw the game out comfortably without getting out of 2nd gear, sadly.

The season cannot end soon enough for the Burgh, it seems. Injuries, suspensions, players underperforming and low in confidence are all contributing to a disappointing end to the season, but we live in hope that there will still be some cheer soon, starting on Saturday in our local derby against Dunbar.

I thought Musselburgh shaded the first half. Great save by Dale Cornet which saved the home side from going 1-0 done. Mathu had a shot from outside the box, which went, not too far, by the right hand side of Disco’ right post. Long effort which flew over the bar, but good banter from the Hadd goalkeeper saying how dare the Burgh lad try and out-Fox him from distance.

Haddington came out flying in the 2nd half, scoring in 47 mins, then before the hour got the 2nd. Although Burgh pulled the ball back, I am in agreement with you PTB, that although Burgh had more of the ball, Haddington weren’t hanging on at the end. Yes there were a few close calls in the Haddington box, the home side frequenty had attacks in the Burgh half too.

A few observations. Why was Liam Reid either playing right back or a right wing half? He is an out and out centre half, where as Declan is not.

Out of that team on park, I would rate Jordan top two, but he seemed anonymous yesterday. Not sure if that was tactics or if his game has gone off the boil.

Think four subs came on yesterday. Didn’t think any improved the performance of the team when they came on.

Why do managers insist of bringing on a sub with only a few minutes to go? Burgh down 2-1, yet Liam Gregory, not even a forward, gets 3-5 minutes on the park. If manager thinks he can possibly change the fortunes of the team, bring him on earlier.

Finally, thought Musselburgh were flat, almost going through the motions yesterday. When a win or even a draw was good enough to see Burgh win the group and advance into last 16, disappointed in that performance.

Yes, some baffling decisions, CJ. Liam is a CH, Declan is not. And even more, Liam is no wing back! Pre-match we thought the back 4 would be Orru, Page, Reid & Woods with Decco sitting in midfield. Joe is known to favour a back 4, he said so at the fans forum last week, yet played a 3 with Page, Declan & Liam. Surely as we chased the game Liam goes back to CH and Declan pushes further up the park?

Liam Gregory got no game time against Pumpherston last week yet gets 5 minutes this week. I'm not sure he even touched the ball. Ben Reilly played 90 minutes on Friday night, then comes on to create. At 18 I'm sure he's fit enough, but a game-changer?

Jordan Smith has to stay on the park for me. Go 3 up top with Downie & Ballantyne, let Matty Knox create and see if we can "steal" an equaliser!

    A very disappointing day.

  8. A very disappointing performance and result on Saturday for the Burgh. Haddington were the much better team throughout, particularly 2nd half. Took their goals well and threatened on numerous occasions.

I was expecting a reaction from Musselburgh when we went 1 down. An even bigger reaction after going 2 down - we got neither, although a well worked corner got us back into the game with 25 or so to go. But again, I didn't feel we reacted positively to that goal and hardly had Haddington on the back foot. Some match comments suggested the home team were hanging on - I never felt that and at the final whistle thought 2-1 flattered us.

The season's done for us now. Sure, a handful of games to ensure we finish mid-table at worst, but realistically not a lot to play for. But we must be professional in our performances, especially where relegation and the championship are concerned.

I heard a supporter say last night there may be only 4 or 5 of the players that started yesterday should be in our opening game next season. If so, a huge rebuild is on the cards at Olivebank.

Sounds promising then as it’s not often teams score so many in a match. So was the drum core there to support the 50 year old mascot? Hope he behaved during the day and enjoyed his orange squash and pick-a-mix at half time. Think Haddington have been short of a player or two recently but hopefully it should be a good match between, the probable best two teams, on Saturday.

Think given the matches coming up, Musselburgh will be keener of progression in the cup more than Haddington as the latter’s main focus will be securing promotion come end of season. That’s not to say they won’t be giving their all at a chance of beating Premier League opposition.

Not sure where the young team came from - don't believe it was associated with JB's 50th.

Haddington may have an eye on their league position, but I'll bet they'd love the scalp of their East Lothian neighbours and will be well up for it. Game of the day!

Think the 3 matches should be a boost for Musselburgh, especially the amount of goals scored in them. Good to see 6 players getting the goals.

No surprise with the win on Saturday PTB, but what about the performance. Did it live up to the scoreline? Burgh should be going for the win this Saturday as anything less would be a disappointment.

Performance was decent, CJ. Scored 8, hit the woodwork twice and should've scored more. Soft goal to lose, but these things happen.

There was a great atmosphere at Ob on Saturday. 250+ there including a few in hospitality, sunny, a family atmosphere, a 50 year old mascot 😁 and a new young team in the shed banging a drum.......plus 8 goals! The best £6 I've spent!

Saturday will be a different proposition against Haddington. We were missing 6 players on Saturday. I hear we're light by 3-4 this week but can have enough to win. Very much looking forward to the game. Hope to see you there, CJ 👍

  11. ⬆️ Fans Forum ⬆️ Tuesday night.

Musselburgh 3 games unbeaten in the Cup, winning 8-1 on Saturday against a disappointing Pumpherston. Already Knox looking like the player we expect him to be, and great to see Jordan Smith getting a hat-trick. It's been a tough few months for Smith with goals hard to come by, but looking much livelier of late.

Very much looking forward to the tie versus Haddington on Saturday. A win or draw for Musselburgh sees us win the group, but I fully expect us to go for the former! 💙

Let me go over the point again.

At the start of the season the gate went up to £8 from £6. I was quick to critise your club. I get your point that you think its still great value, but either way I felt it was a big increase.

Fast forward to Saturday, the gate was reduced/changed whatever you want to call it. Surely it is only right for me to praise the club (not praise you personally (unless it was your idea))

I get your points. It was the "praise" I didn't follow. I think you're wrong with the £6-£8. I believe it was £7-£8. I'll ask as my ST doesn't tell me!

On the reduction to £6 for Cup games from what you say was £8 earlier in the year in other cup competitions, maybe it's because it involves lower league teams as opposed to other cup competitions. I really don't know. I'm not on the committee.

On praise for the Club, Musselburgh do much to attract and maintain the fan base. Much credit is due.

Honest as usual PTB - thank you. Saw a tweet from HWU saying they deserved the win and in effect we had Ross McCrae to thank for getting the draw. How was the crowd today - did the reduced entry fee boost numbers at Olivebank?

Disappointing crowd, CJ. Particularly factoring the glorious weather. 130+ is my guess.

And yes, HWU showed enough to just shade it 2nd half, but against 10 men for that whole half! I think the whole defence played well today.

Page just shading M.O.M. Re-sign him immediately!

  14. 4 hours ago, Casey Jones said:

Certainly would not ask you to name names PTB and respect your thoughts here. Football chat is all about opinion. General time dictates if opinions are right/wrong. I know lots of people don’t agree with me and think I am all waffle, but I can live with that.

Wasn’t at the match today, indeed not at any match. In past 20 years, I have seen least amount of football than previously. A bit of a transition year in more ways than one which I will stick to. Hopefully address this in 2022-23.

A disappointing result. Burgh should be winning these matches, though I see Burgh played with 10 men in 2nd half. What I would say though is Burgh players have to take responsibility for themselves once the ref blows for match to start. Rightly or wrongly, manager will get boot for poor results. Players may agree/disagree with Manager’s team picks or tactics, but they have a voice which they should air, if not happy and can let their feet/heads do the talking during each 90 mins of match.

I heard a few say we played OK, especially with 10 men the whole 2nd half. I didn't think so. Opinions, eh?

On reflection their keeper had a good game, so maybe I was harsh in my initial post match comments. Plus the bar must be bruised the amount of times we hit it, particularly 1st half.

Their keeper & #9 were particularly effective today -hearing positive rumours on the latter! 😁

Also, good debut for Matthew Knox today. Showed enough class and deft touches to suggest he'll be a big player for us next season!

Very disappointing for a couple of couple of Burgh fans to think we could be relegated PTB. As I said before, we had a disappointing serious of events at start of season on the managerial front, then with Liam Burns, who seemed a great coach, left early in season. But, we had the same squad as pervious season and so a squad who should compete at top of league.

Moving on we’ve lost 4 keys players, but despite a ‘bad season’ never out of top 5/6. Certainly vital for next season we need to hit the ground running and I hope Joe already has incoming players in-sight for pre-season. The league cup group football comes at good time for Burgh. Realistically we SHOULD win all 4 matches, though but all accounts, the match against Haddington will decide who tops group.

On relegation I could name names, but won't. Like me, I respect their anonymity.

On relegation, where either of you at the game today? Another poor Musselburgh performance, not helped by Jono being sent off at H/T. Very flat. HW deserved the points.

    Your having a laugh! Relegation!

Your playing it down or back tracking once the season has progressed

Let's be clear. A team that would have finished very high last season (winning their game in hand would have left you 3 points behind the leader before the season was cut short)

That team kept the core and majority of the players with proven track record.

To say that some fans were fearing Relegation I think is strange from them.

5th 6th or where ever you finish below that is not good enough for Musselburgh. Its an awful league nothing like the super league. Kelty, Bonnyrigg, Lochee have been replaced by Whitehill, Tynecastle and Lothian Th. No disrespect to them thats just the facts.

I also think its wrong to clear the manager of any blame.

    Whitburn 2nd

    Linlithgow 1st

    Penicuik 2nd

Have all changed manager and are doing very well. Better add Haddington to that list as well. 2nd.

Those teams have not changed playing squad either yet have arguably got better following a manager change.

Incidentally Musselburgh were 2nd favourites at the start of the season

Yes, relegation. True, even if you don't believe me.

Hope to see you at the fans' forum at the end of the month. Any contribution is welcome

  17. 1 hour ago, The Faceman said:

Not sure when I give out praise that people get that I mean it!

At the start of the season i was disappointed that the gate went up by £2 to £8. That at £8 it was the most expensive in the league and £1 more than some Lowland league sides including Bonnyrigg.

Surprised that you say nothings changed and then highlight the change.

If its only for cup matches thats fair enough, but it is a change as Tynecastle and Stoneyburn earlier in the season was £8.

So here is the praise once again. Excellent that the gate prices have been REDUCED from £8 to £6 even if it is just for Heriot Watt and Pumpherston. I am surprised nobody else is praising you.

I recollect it being £7 last season, but I may be wrong. I can't remember if it was £8 for cup ties earlier in the season. I don't care tbh - still think it's great value for money. Think Linlithgow charge £8 too. Pretty sure we'll still be £8 next season when most others catch up.

Why would people praise me? Again, I'm not sure what you mean by that.

    Astonishing couple of posts.

The Question Tranents approach when they could be 26 points clear if they win their 4 games in hand is one thing, but they have only used 3 more players than Musselburgh who are in Transition!

Musselburgh a team which were amongst the favourites to win the league will need a strong finish to avoid falling out the top 6.

At the start of the season it was all about a strong squad which would be supplemented by a very good selection of u20s - the reality has been a chop and change, good players moving side ways and young players being given very limited chances in favour of bringing in other teams players on loan.

One bit of praise though, its good to see gate prices finally addressed. People are quick to be critical as I was in the summer - good to see it change.

"The Question Tranents approach" - sorry, I don't know what that means?

Not sure i made any reference to Tranent, but on 3 players, I'm sure you've had a look. I don't care. Tranent are synonymous with a revolving door at the moment, 3 players or not. Regardless, as an EL team, i hope they win the league.

Not sure what bookies you were talking to, but Musselburgh were never considered "favourites" by most i spoke to. In fact, i remember a couple of fellow fans fearful of relegation! So 5th or 6th is ok for me for a team in transition. But we must do better next season. Do remember the current manager did not have a pre-season. Most are not his players and he's only brought 2 in on loan. The time to seriously question the manager is after pre-season 22-23, then into the season. Matty Knox could be an excellent start!

Will the current 20s have a role to play? Not sure, but let's not put too much expectation on them. McCrae aside, the last players to get regular game time from the 20s was Gregory & Reid, (Wynne aside, now on loan at Leith) both from 2018, so to think 5 or 6 can progress this year is stretching it a bit. I hear 1, maybe 2 could push for a place.

On gate prices, nothing's changed. £8 to get in, but £6 this week as it's a cup tie. Not sure if that is your point.

He's taking a hell of a lot of backwards steps.

Take it he's not cut it at Tranent.

He's just joined the mighty Mussy where we hope he'll prosper. Only 22. Plenty time yet to find his feet and re-establish himself.
