  1. If thats true they must be offering him silly money....full time wages to play part time? I can't see any other reason why a Championship level player would move to League 2. Think we learned our lesson 2 years ago that paying over the odds for players can turn out costly business.
  2. Heard that the proposal Airdrie put forward to the reconstruction group was to extend the Championship to 20 teams in a 14-20-10 setup. Think a 20 team Championship playing each other twice would have been excellent and its probably the only format to allow proper reconstruction to happen without it impacting any clubs unfairly. More interestingly seems that reconstruction talks are still going on in the background and not strictly off the table as reported...hopefully that's the case.
  3. Do you not think if the SPFL were going about offering places on a reconstruction committee in exchange for their vote then the whole Dundee debacle would have been avoided and they would have voted yes in the first place. Interestingly Dundee made the point of saying if what they achieved in those few days after the vote was presented by the SPFL in the first place then they would have voted yes. I'd say that sounds like the creation of the reconstruction committee came about during those few days after ever other club voted and not used as some bargaining tool before it. Also, I'm sure if the SPFL were going about offering different clubs places on the committee in exchange for their vote then it would have appeared in a certain 'dossier' along with every other allegation
  4. So what your saying is that teams such as Hearts, Partick, Falkirk and Edinburgh City all got offered places on the reconstruction committe in exchange for their vote and still got places on it despite voting no? Some deal that!!
  5. Null and void is apparently not even an option as sponsors and TV companies would be legally entitled to claim back money from the league if its not completed. The same money that the SPFL hands out as prize money at the end of the season so no sponsor or TV money would mean no prize money and many teams would end up going to the wall.
  6. The only options I can see is either calling the season or null and void the season and both have the same outcome for us. There's no way we can possibly finish the season with the amount of players in the lower leagues who are out of contract come June so no matter what UEFA or other governing bodies say that won't change. I don't see the point in waiting for another option to appear when there isn't one there. I dare say the board haven't taken this decision lightly, they have put the money in to try and get us back to the Championship and it looks like reconstruction is the only outcome that will allow that to happen for us this season.
  7. I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sort of reconstruction, especially after the debacle of this weekend. Too much has went on and the only way for the SPFL to save face will be to try and push through a solution that will prevent Hearts, Partick and Stranraer being relegated. The lower leagues had no chance of getting the leagues played to a finish due to the majority of players being out of contract so I'd imagine our best chances of being promoted are via reconstruction of the leagues.
  8. Do you really think after 2/3 weeks of ending the lockdown that they are going to allow mass gatherings again?
  9. And what do all the clubs do with the players that are out of contract in June? Tell them they are not allowed to leave and have to finish the season? Or do we finish the season with every team having different squads? Where's the fairness in that if the likes of Partick Thistle, Hearts spend their way out of relegation trouble or Falkirk spend their way to the L1 title? Add in the fact that as soon as football is able to get played in Auguest then Sky Sports will want the new league season started in Scotland so any talk of playing out the season in August/September is never going to happen.
  10. By all accounts null and void is out the question, the Ayr chairman who was all for it even said after advice from the SPFL that this was now not an option. I'd imagine wiping this season from the history books could end up a legal minefield as potentially sponsors, TV and even us fans (not that many would I dont think, but it is left open to) could all request money back for a season that never was. As mentioned above...is this also the reason the SPFL are pushing for the default 1 up, 1 down resolution by default as if there are no promotion/relegation confirmed at the end of the season, it could be seen as still a null and void season despite crowning champions is each division? Not sure exactly how a season ending is defined legally but failure to get all clubs to agree on promotion/relegation after the season has officially ended could indeed see us replaying last season again.
  11. Because there is absolutely no chance of playing out any of the remaining league games never mind play off games. Reconstruction is the only chance of promotion for teams in the play off positions and it sounds like that can't be looked at until this league season is finished.
  12. Any reconstruction needs to factor in 4 old firm derbies, any other proposals are dead in the water if they don't unfortunately. A league of 14 with some sort of a split after 2 rounds would give you the 4 old firm derbies so would be the only way I could see it work.
  13. A 14-14-14 setup would have everyone meet each other twice before a split, and then meet everyone within their half a further twice after the split. Gives 26 games before the split and then a further 12 after, a total of 2 extra games per season than the current setup. Yes you still have some teams you would meet 4 times a season but theres plenty of variation before the split and a lot of the games after that could be very interesting....imagine the current L1 table if the likes of the top half were all playing each other every week at the climax of the season, would be great.
  14. But you would still be one league below the Championship with a much better chance of being promoted the following season compared to being in a league containing Airdrie, Falkirk and Thistle etc.
  15. New club membership scheme launched by the club. https://www.airdriefc.com/club1924 A great way to support the club financially especially over the next few months whilst getting a little something back in return.
  16. It wasnt announced on the website however Stuart Millar confirmed on the OTL Podcast that a deal had been agreed. McCann's loan deal didnt expire until after Saturday's game so I'd imagine his deal is just currently going through the required registration process with the SFA.
  17. Roy actually started on the right with Smith in the advanced midfielder role which just didnt work. Roy never once had a go at their left back who is awful and it wasnt until we switched Roy and Smith that we saw Smith get some joy down that flank, albeit his final ball mostly let him down. We really are missing Roberts in the midfield...his driving runs cause teams a lot of problems and I dont think we have anyone else who is as good as him in there. Not sure what the problem is with him but he's definitely not looked anywhere near fit when he's came on as sub the last 2 weeks.
  18. Dont think I've ever witnessed any team time waste from the 7th minute...that was something special from Clyde today! The ref took until the 90th minute to finally tell one of your players to hurry up...sums up his inept performance!!
  19. Surely we're still not looking for that 20-goal a season striker are we???
  20. Started with Wedderburn and McKay as holding midfielders and Roberts in front of them. Smith out right and Carrick on the left with Gallagher through the middle. Millar replaced Wedderburn just after half time. Felt it worked really well and we looked a lot more organised. Still not keen on McKay, dont think he offers much and was easily out jumped for their goal. Lost his man at a corner earlier in the game as well which luckily the Forfar player glanced past the post. We played better as a back 4 as well and McCann seemed much more comfortable in his natural left back position rather than left wing back.
  21. Great win today and a much improved performance after the last few weeks. Felt we were unlucky to be behind at half time, thought we had just shaded a tight 1st half and Carrick should have put us in front with a great chance! Lost a cheap goal from another corner which was headed back across goal from the back post...players seemed to suggest it might have went out at the back post but from a defensive point of view we have to be making sure we win the initial header! 2nd half we started well and got a quick equaliser thanks to an error from McCallum who someone managed to spill Carricks shot over the line. Then even quicker than that we were in front when Smith flicked the ball on for Gallagher to run through and lob the ball over McCallum....seemed to take an age for the ball to come back down and drop in below the bar! After that we looked quite comfortable with Forfar rarely threatening and then Smith, who had a great game out on the right wing, intercepted a poor Forfar pass and raced through on goal before cutting onto his right foot and finishing with a great strike! Forfar hit the bar and had another opportunity just wide before Roy rounded off a resounding victory late on. Overall thought we were well organised and the players put in a great shift...impressed with Smith and Carrick on both wings who never stopped working. Crighton was solid at the back and Roberts had a decent game in midfield. Thought Kieron Millar done extremely well when he came on and could have earned himself an start next week in place of Wedderburn. Apart from that the team should pick itself for next week, a game we need to follow up this weeks win with another positive result!
  22. Heard Hutton went over on his ankle in training on Thursday....think someone has been inventing stories!!
  23. Not sure what Murray will go with tomorrow, think he'll stick with the 3-5-2 but whether he makes some personnel changes remains to be seen. I'd like to see Roberts drop back in to replace either McKay or Wedderburn and have Carrick or Hawkshaw in behind the strikers...theres no reason to be playing 2 defensive midfielders at home against Elgin. It's a good opportunity to progress to the quarters so I think we'll have quite a strong team out....no need to be resting players unless they have been struggling with injuries.
  24. According to the OS Hutton, Gallacher and MacDonald are all out for tomorrow so looks like it will be Willison in goal.
