  1. I blame the referee for letting the likes of Paton and the centre back who fell over and rolled about every time Oakley went near him, and the ref bought it every time. You can’t really blame the QP players keeping that going if the ref’s allowing it. I think players of most teams would do the same.

I am genuinely confused by Queen's Park fans taking offense to that observation about their approach, it's entirely a compliment to Davidson doing a good job. If you had the likes of Robin Veldman or James McPake in charge clinging to a shit philosophy you would lose that game, you didn't because you now have an edge and a willingness to grind things out when necessary. Your manager turning your previously weak as piss squad into a gang of shithouses is a good thing, celebrate it!

I think part of QP’s quite recent investment was creating an identity of playing creative football out from the back. Although they still tried to do that yesterday, I think they’re fans are a bit irked by suggestions they’re now adding the uglier side to their game. Their irk likely comes from the fact it appears to be true.

No. Tickets must be purchased on line up to 30 minutes after kick off. Yes, you will be in the South Stand. All details either are or will be on the website.

Thanks WB, just got our tickets no problem. Very straightforward process!

1968 Semi Final match up revisited. First game at Hampden 1-1 then 2-1 replay with Norway's first ever professional (Roald "Kniksen" Jensen) scoring the winner for Hearts in the replay.

Roald may have been the first footballer "from" Scotland to have a statue built (outside Brann Bergen's ground). Roald has an award named after him the "Kniksen" (Juggler) award for the best young Norwegian footballer.  He's one of the best players I've ever seen but sadly the subject of several "kickings" from opponents back in the day...... He sadly died quite young from a heart attack while playing football.

I remember it well as I attended both games. Roald Jensen was indeed a fine player and scored in both matches. In the replay it was from a penalty in extra time with 2 minutes left. We were gutted as Donald Ford was miles offside when he ran through and then took the ball wide of goal, so had no chance of scoring when he went down under a fair challenge. I'm still gutted now reliving it!

After all the moaning you do, you don't even go to games because it's the same team twice in 10 months??

We are lucky to have you.

Sorry you're missing me so much since I was barred from the Morton Forum that you found me on page 2 of the Premiership form on P&B, then sifted through my post to find something to dig me up for.

Have you anything to contribute to the debate?

  6. I think the reasoning given for the top 12 wanting to continue the status quo has now outlived it’s relevance. They want the crowds and/or TV money that the 4 games v the OF bring, but this is no longer a valid argument when balanced against the product available, or the atmosphere at the matches
For example, the most recent St Mirren v Celtic premiership match drew a crowd of 5,500, on the same day that an under performing Dunfermline v Raith drew 8,500. St Mirren v Celtic in the Scottish Cup drew 4,400, whilst Morton v Motherwell drew over 5,000.
Hibs v Celtic had a massive number of empty seats, yet they regularly have crowds of 18,000 plus.
They say the EPL is the best league in the world, but they’re mainly talking about the quality on show. I actually feel it’s the fact that every match is unique for the particular season. Liverpool v Man City for instance only occurs once a year, and generates incredible interest in the build-up, live match and aftermath.
We’ve lost that in Scotland with the familiarity of playing other teams four times a season. Fear of relegation and losing those perceived big crowds has teams playing a horrible style of football which would make you cry with boredom.

The top 4 to 6 clubs in the Championship are investing in the dream of promotion, and the stakes are completely rigged against them achieving that goal.

If Morton play, say Arbroath at home, I refuse to pay to watch the same match twice a season, and have stopped purchasing a season ticket. If the Premiership was extended to 18 teams, meaning 17 different matches at Cappielow, I would immediately buy a season ticket.
Teams could also return to playing with a bit of freedom and giving their youth players a game.
What do we need to do to make this happen?

    Sounds like guff.

We do try and play out, definitely did a lot last season through Benedictus but with our current availability list I don't think playing out from the back is top of the boards wish-list. More often than not you'll see the attempt to begin playing out but it's not clicking at the moment. And when we choose to go direct, we don't have the players to win it/hold it up.

I don't know about official objectives and measurements that the board set the manager, however at a fans Q&A night at the end of last season McPake and McKay both talked about wanting to finish as high as possible, however were realistic that the aim was to stay in the division and if they were offered 7th place at that time they'd take it.

I was taken aback when I heard that, especially as it came from a guy who always checks his facts before saying such a thing.
If you guys haven’t heard that then it’s probably wide of the mark.

Our first home Scottish Cup Quarter final for 25 years. It would be very disappointing if the capacity is restricted in a similar way to Friday night.

I think 4 or our last 5 Scottish Cup QFs have been 0-3 defeats to Celtic (the other being a 2-5 against Killie after threatening to make a comeback from 3 nil down in that one). I hope this one goes better.

I’ve got a feeling this one will go better. Friday night was the first time in recent memory when our manager asked the fans to pack Cappielow and back the team, and our players actually gave the fans something to cheer about. It felt like a breakthrough moment to me, similar to past occasions when Hal Stewart, Benny Rooney and Allan McGraw were our managers.
When Dougie said we’ll take anyone at Cappielow he meant it!

  9. Sorry for intruding guys, but I was told something very surprising about the Pars’ board’s backing for James McPake. Is it true they’ve told him they’re not bothered where they finish in the league this season as they’r committed to building a footballing side who play out from the back? If so I’m assuming they mean as long as they stay in the division!

I told myself I wouldn’t rise to this, but again, you’ve reeled me in, against my better judgement.

As cappiecat told you, you haven’t in fact been banned from the Morton Forum- your posting has been restricted, and that may well be reviewed.

Personally, I was against restricting your posts for a couple of reasons- firstly, your main “crime” was the outburst against Imrie, which had already been dealt with. The only other one was the minor irritation of spamming the forum with nonsense, and while I’ve got no sympathy for you, I didn’t think it merited such restrictions, but it’s not my decision. Secondly, I predicted you’d be on here moaning about it and talking the forum down, which you have this week.

What did surprise me was that even the guys on here who have no time for the Morton Forum and its mods/regular posters, have no time for your carry on either. I expected it to be the perfect opportunity for them to stick the boot in, but you’ve really united the masses, well played.

What I will say though, is that some of the treatment you’ve had on here from one individual in particular- actively encouraging even Dunfermline fans to completely disregard you, and hammering you on this thread and the Morton thread, is pretty outrageous, and hypocrisy at it’s finest, given that the same person tagged myself, vt and Mr. Blue just before Christmas, accusing us of bullying you.

I admit that I spat the dummy with you, and called you some not very nice things I probably shouldn’t have, just like you’ll regret your own outburst at Imrie.

I’ll do him the courtesy of not naming him like he did me, but it won’t take a rocket scientist to work out who I’m talking about.

Parsforlife has it spot on though- this weekend should be one that we’re all absolutely buzzing, but again this minor episode has snowballed. At least if your posting wasn’t restricted across by, everyone’s (your) dirty washing wouldn’t be getting such a public airing.

Hope you, and my pal who I’ve not named, have had as lovely a weekend as I’ve had.

Okay Toby, as always you’ve taken the time to address the issue in a balanced way, which I appreciate, given my misdemeanours.

Lately I’ve found it difficult not to respond to accusations of lying etc., but you’ve somehow managed to calm me down and realise I probably just need to let it go.

With Dougie and the Ton doing so well just now, I’ll try to just shut up for a while and attend the matches.

    Thanks for your measured response.

Takes something special for a team to win 5-0 away from home and it be one of their fans getting involved in  a Sunday rant

Sorry PFL, if you look back you’ll see I was responding to abusive posts, not starting them. Also at 12pm I said I’ll stop and let people discuss the match. There seems to a magnetic agenda in place here that people simply can’t resist being drawn into.

  12. I’ve always supported all Scottish Teams in European Competion, currently by watching the matches on TV, but previously by actually attending the matches. So yes I wanted Rangers to win the Europa League, until I saw an article where an ex Rangers player said it would be a bigger achievement than Celtic being the first British team to win the European Cup. That would’ve been a completely unacceptable debate, so for the first time in my life I wanted the Scottish team to lose, and thank f**k they did!

Probably the most gutted I've ever been after a Ton game was the cup QF replay in 1991 at Cappielow, when Motherwell won on penalties after a 1-1 draw. First game at Fir Park ended 0-0, if I remember correctly. Game was one of the first to be broadcasted live on Sky TV which was in its very early years. Motherwell went on to win the cup that year, just to rub salt in the wound.

I've waited 33 years for this. It's payback time! :)

I remember it “well”. My memory is atrocious but I seem to remember there was a bit of a trend in that whoever knocked Morton out went on to win the cup! (Cue accusations of liar, fantasist etc.)

  14. I think I now realise now why I was barred from the Morton Forum. The abuse directed towards me was growing to an unacceptable level, so they took away the common denominator, or the source of the problem. I get that, and I can still go on ad read the threads without being able to contribute, which I suppose I brought on myself to an extent by my persistence in sticking by my original point.
I must say though it’s a crying shame that it’s now the most sugar coated forum in Scotland. It’s less controversial than the Club’s official forum or the local newspaper.

Unfortunately they’ve turned into the Stepford Supporters!
