I think this match was the prefect storm. The team with the best high press in the league versus a team who persist with trying to play out from the back when they clearly don’t have the players to carry it out.
Look at the quality of players Man City and Spurs have to sign to play that system. At our level you have to be able to mix it up, defend well and get up the pitch quickly, varying the play between passing and long balls when required. Dougie has got this down to a tee, whereas James McPake appears to be doing the opposite.

    Perfect Storm!

You are nothing but a deluded clown who is full of his own self importance. Add to that your vile post about someone having a  gambling addiction which I reported and was swiftly removed. You'll no doubt attempt to apologise, blame alcohol etc but at the end of the day that's not acceptable

I'll no doubt being accused of being one of those involved in the 'witch hunt' after this when really I'm calling you out for personal vendettas.

I’m glad that post was removed, although my hand was forced a bit by the cut & paste of my horrendous rant.
I actually don’t care what Dougie wears or what he bets  on, especially with the hypocrisy of a league who have betting firms as sponsors. My only concern was our youth development programme. That has now been restored so I no longer have any concerns about Dougie or the club.

People don't pile on you because of your view on his team selection or squad management. They might disagree with you, but that's not where this stems from.

It's because of the fantasy world you live in where you have friends on the board who took your concerns to Imrie, who've made him re-evaluate his "policy" on young players, and that you have lived first hand experiences of such transgressions because of your own failure to break into Dutch professional football.

It's occasionally funny because of how absurd it is, but it's tiresome.

You have selective amnesia then. If I had friends on the board then why would I route my concerns through MCT?
I have contacted MCT 3 times:

    1. At the time of joining I asked if the club would own Cappielow under MCT ownership. The board answered yes.

    2. I asked if the club wanted promotion, and if we’d be ready for it. The board again answered yes.

    3. I asked if the board were happy with the manager’s handling of youth development. MCT declined to put this question to the board as it was an ongoing matter.

Nah, he was already marked out as a total fanny before this recent Walter Mitty exercise.

This is the type of abuse I’ve been getting regularly on the Morton Forum. Anything I’ve said related to youth development has been routinely branded a lie, with various derogatory adjectives attached. The “Walter Mitty” story was me telling the forum that, during a failed trial period at Den Haag, I saw how players of all age groups were integrated into the club environment. My point was that we could learn from that approach, but again everyone focussed on my trial, saying it was a lie. My point on integrating youth did not get a single response, despite the fact we were having a debate on youth development. At least two other posters cited their similar experiences at clubs as part of the debate, but they were not questioned in any way about the truth of their experiences.
I’ll leave this for now so people can discuss today’s match.

Could it just be a case of many disagreeing with you while others that may agree simply staying silent?
My kids warned me that sites like this could become ugly if many disagree with you, and told me that I’ll need a tough exterior if/when they do.

That’s pretty much what has happened Wacky. Dougie recently said he hopes “the few” who criticised his policy on academy graduates will shut up now, after he started giving development players a fair chance.
The only difference between myself and the rest of “the few” is that I have stuck to my guns while they have all fallen silent regarding their previous concerns.

I’m delighted that Dougie has turned this around, but I refuse to lie about my original concerns having foundation, which is why I was barred from our fans’ forum.
If I didn’t have those concerns over a year ago, then why would I choose to express them on the Morton Forum?

Sounds like there’s an underlying story here, can you inform us Pars fans of this as it may alter our decisions at the bookies.
    thanks in advance

It came from me Wacky. I made my concerns known over a year ago that I felt Dougie seemed to have something against our academy graduates.

Several other posters voiced similar concerns at the time. It got to the point when I lost the plot a few months ago and went on a horrendous personal rant against Dougie. After this all the other Ton forum posters completely closed in on me and left me as the lone voice with this concern, eventually resulting in me being barred from the forum.
Dougie quite recently turned this around, stating he is not scared to field academy players. However the other posters are claiming this was Dougie’s policy right from the start, which I strongly refute.

I’ve always added the caveat that this was the only aspect of his management policies that concerned me, however this was completely disregarded in the witch hunt that saw me kicked out.

  8. I probably shouldn’t be on this thread as I’m a Greenock Morton Fan. However I’m surprised to see that Rangers are letting Jose Cifuentes go out on loan. I thought he looked the best prospect of the 10 signings or so that Beale made.
As a central midfielder I’d have thought he needed more game time to establish himself in the team. In Rangers or Celtic games everyone seems to run around like headless chickens, the players, the officials and the supporters, but Cifuentes looked to be the only calm guy in the building and I thought he looked a class act. Anyway what do I know?

Very excited by Garrity's performance on Saturday. Granted he was up against a makeshift right back, but I can't remember seeing a Morton winger take the piss out of a full back like that in a long time. Spent 20 minutes gliding by him like he wasn't there and really should've grabbed himself a goal or 2, but if he keeps getting himself into them positions the goals will come.

Another player who's been very well managed by Imrie, clearly still got some way to go on the defensive side of the game but if he continues to improve at this rate he'll be a huge player for us.

Agreed, well done Michael for your perseverence, and well done Dougie for your remarkable turnaround to becoming the absolute champion of Morton Academy Graduates.

If we have any aims of 4th, we simply need to be taking 3 points from these home games.

As pointed out up the thread, I do think the win up in Arbroath could be significant in clearing that monkey. Proper bogey team.

Absolutely! I thought that two weeks ago that we really have to beat the likes of Partick at home if we’ve any hopes of a play-off position. We should’ve been 2 or 3 up by half time but just couldn’t put the match to bed, which I feel we must start doing to be genuine promotion contenders

Difficult to tell with that league given Declan McManus looks like Mbappe in it, but could be a decent pickup. Really emcouraging to get some business done that early, quite unlike us.

But, if as is widely agreed on the Morton Forum, one of Dougie’s top attributes is recruiting and improving previously overlooked players, why is this one being viewed any differently? I’m optimistic this will be another such case in point.

    For the key decisions IMO.

    Broadfoot- pen, wrong decision

    Crawford-no pen, right decision.

    Wilson- yellow- right decision.

    Stanway-yellow, wrong decision.

    Bannigan- no yellow, wrong decision.

    Stanway- pen, wrong decision.

2 right decisions out of 6, Napier had an absolute mare!

What about Morton's disallowed goal and the incident late on when a Morton player was bundled over the byeline when about to shoot, a bit similar to th Stanway call.

  13. I thought it was an enjoyable match with a great atmosphere. Morton should've been 2 or three up before Partick scored. The substitutions changed the game and once Partick scored it looked as if they could even win it. Jai coming on for Wilson and Crawford moving back one seemed okay as did Garrity replacing Muirhead, but for some reason we suddenly seemed wide open down our left side, which Partick exploited several times. With VAR the score could've been 3-2 or more, with a couple of penalties and red cards. For Muirhead's miss we were right in line and the ball was actually behind him, as Strapp had lashed the ball across from inside the 6 yard box, possibly trying to score. Muirhead tried to get his foot over it to keep it down but was a bit unlucky due to the speed and position of the ball behind him. As to the crowd, if Cappielow holds 11,500, that means another 8,000 could have squeezed in. I find that hard to believe, where would they have fitted in? Or how long would it have taken to get them in with the ticketing shambles. We got our tickets from Smith's and the ground tickets were sold out before 2pm. It's a bit concerning as some people were talking about not going back till it's sorted out.

We are a physical team in terms of stamina and getting stuck in and we do have an aggressive high press and we also do get the ball up early to the striker to bring others in to play and I love that about us so I have no problem if a manager says it and uses it as a positive which I felt Goodwin did post match (at least on the BBC, his tone may change on in house channels)

Too often from him and other managers in this league it's been said in a negative and patronising way that we are a team of hammer throwers that can't pass the ball to each other and just go around kicking opponents which just blatantly isn't true.

I thought he pointed out our strengths tonight and praised us for beating them because of it.

That’s the way I heard it. We’ve heard a lot of managers say it as a negative, but Goodwin praised it as a positive. He also praised Dougie Imrie and admitted his centre backs couldn’t handle Big George. Straight after a defeat at home I’d say that’s pretty honest and sporting!

  15. Just a question for Annan Fans: I’ve just read that Michael Garrity is returning to Morton this month but our manager is thinking of whether to take him back just now or leave him on loan for the rest of the season, for the reasons he’s detailed in this link:

     https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.greenocktelegraph.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2F24017695.morton-boss-dougie-imrie-january-transfer-window-update%2F

Would this be the Annan Fans’ assessment or does he do any tracking back or helping the team apart from his own qualities up front?

@virginton @Mr.Blue We both know that DOT's views are off the wall, ridiculed and pilloried - and grossly inaccurate in all probability. But to occasionally check in and see the abuse that wee bloke takes on that toxic cesspit of 'Gordon's forum' = it's the absolute epitome of internet bullying. I have no idea how you sleep at night after some of the shite you and the likes of @Toby have directed towards him. Aye right enough - he may be a twat, he may have views different from your own - but he's also a human being with feelings and emotions. Cut the poor wee fucker some slack. Just agree to disagree, and have the intelligence and dignity to keep your typing fingers still, whilst learning that silence is often the most eloquent and effective response. This is 11 blokes kicking a fitba around some God-forsaken wart on the arsehole of Inverclyde. We're not splitting the atom, stopping global warming, curing cancer, or saving the world here.

I expect the usual roaster red flags incoming.

Best wishes from a cold, windy and rainy West Coast.

I obviously brought a lot of this stuff on myself, and in some specific threads I was only getting back what I gave out.

I do think it’s changed a bit recently though, in that previously I could take part in normal discussions about team selections, player recruitment and match threads such as this one. Now though I see the same few people responding to completely inoffensive posts with abusive rants.
I‘ve taken no interest in the significance of red dots etc. and don’t even know what they mean, although I assume it’s something to do with a post which can cause offence. I think I was given one recently for taking part in a discussion on what the club will do in January. There was nothing offensive whatsoever in my post so I don’t really get that at all. You could argue that the red dot should go to the poster who suggested I get one.

Whatever has caused this change has now spread from the Morton Forum onto this one. Disappointing but don’t worry, although it has diluted my enjoyment of participating in the forums, it has had no effect whatsoever on my mental health.
