There are only 5 big teams at most in Scotland. Don’t think Thistle fans would ever consider us to be one of them. Be interested to know which big teams you are referring to.

As Highlandmagar says, the ones that are still “big teams” are OF, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen. The others who were “big teams” and still portray themselves that way are Dundee. Those who were “big teams” but don’t in general put themselves across that way IMO are Dunfermline, Dundee United and possibly Kilmarnock and East Fife. The other category is clubs who are not and never were a “big team” and yet portray themselves as such, and there’s only one I can think of.

I’m not sure why any daft Morton fan on here would ever insinuate that it’s thistle who have tried to create this “rivalry”. Your weird lot can’t stand us for whatever reason and I seem to recall a whole Morton thread on why they hate thistle, where one individual wrote a full scale seething dissertation on why he dislikes us so much😂😂. Don’t get me wrong, but I think I can speak for plenty of thistle fans when I say here that I absolutely despise your manky little club. But I certainly don’t see you as some kind of rival, I merely enjoy beating you because you are bitter as they come and it’s hilarious. Let’s also be honest here as well you are utterly irrelevant to st mirren and have been for a long time. I have several friends who are saints fans and not one of them cares even the slightest jot about Morton. Trying to compare the like to us and the ugly sisters is utterly ridiculous.

Count me out of wanting Thistle as a rival, we never have been or will be rivals. It’s more a case of animosity between us for various reasons. I don’t “hate” Thistle but I dislike the way they’re portrayed as some sort of media darlings. I also dislike the “big team” mentality that certain clubs’ fans display, but with the exception of Thistle they all are or were actually “big teams”. Coming from Thistle fans I find it very unfounded, baffling and irritating. Perhaps that’s where a lot of the general dislike comes from. Morton have specific songs about St Mirren and Kilmarnock who have been big rivals of ours in different eras since I started supporting Morton. As far as I know we have no specific songs about Thistle and have no great reason to have any.

Yeah it may well have been more a case of the players being tired as opposed to a tactical decision, but either way it was noticeable and extremely frustrating.  I agree that this would have been the right time to try and make some changes to inject a bit of energy into the team as that second half was brutal to watch.

I think it’s a bit of both. We have 10 players (including the keeper) who start every game, a very few of whom may be replaced very late in the match. This may become 11 with Miller replacing McGrattan. Unlike most, of not all, our rival clubs, none of these players have a competitor for their place in the starting eleven. This means we are maybe asking too much of these players, don’t have enough options to change things and we that predictability is possibly making the opposition management’s preparations easier. I’m hoping the reason we’ve just released several players is to make way for replacements who are of similar standard to our current first picks, therefore can challenge for a starting place or influence the game from the bench, preferably with something different. Dundee brought on 3 attack minded subs against Raith Rovers at half-time on Friday and they changed the game. I’m not suggesting we could finance that sort of squad, but something a bit more competitive than our current set-up would be welcome.

It goes past Cowcaddens up towards Possil and Milton so if coming from town you got off at the stop next to St Joseph's Primary on Garscube Road before it turns onto Possil Road then Firhill would be about a 15mins walk up Garscube Road from there.

ETA - or get off once it turns onto Possil Road and then walk along the canal and cut down onto Firhill Road, might be slightly closer.

Cheers POTM! Sounds like it might be harder getting a ticket than getting there!

I think you are always going to be biased towards your own side - when you are doing well anyway. There is also ignorance involved in terms of some of the opposing sides players. For example there is no way I would consider Gillespie good enough to get near Dempsey or Murdoch but I’m aware he has done well for you. My joint team would look a little like this:

                               Albinson

    Grimshaw  Musonda   Ambrose  Strapp

              Crawford Murdoch Dempsey

    Chalmers                                Mullin
                               Akinyemi

I know McGrattan seems to be highly rated, I just don’t know enough about him so every chance he comes in for Mullin. Musonda, Dempsey, Chalmers, Musonda and Akinyemi are all absolute stick ons for me.

That’s a reasonable pick, though if it’s on current form places may have to be found for Gillespie and McGrattan, who’ve both been essential to our 11 game unbeaten run.

  6. At Morton I’d be happy to keep what we have apart from loanee Kabia who should be shipped back to Livi. I would also like to add some back-up in midfield and attack. I think we mainly need a no. 10 type to link midfield to attack, as there’s quite a gap there as far as I can see. Even a creative mid like a Dylan McGeoch or a Fraser Fyvie. They’re admittedly quite hard to come by as I cant think of any who may be available within our budget.

  7. I heard a very ambitious suggestion years ago to "cantilever" the Sinclair Street stand over Sinclair Street, supporting it on the car park side, creating a tunnel for traffic up and down Sinclair Street. I would imagine that would be mega-expensive to plan, engineer and install. It would likely dwarf the cost of making the road and wall parallel with the pitch and building the stand within those boundaries.

  8. I enjoyed the match even though I was quite nervy about the outcome, especially after Thistle scored then they were through on goal 3 v 1, and unbelievably the player with the ball (Lawless?) decided to try to bend it round the Morton defender from around 25 yards, and managed to hit the defender with the ball. I had two cousins visiting for the game, one used to live in Garscube Road looking into Firhill. We all agreed Thistle were the better passing team but Morton had more fight and more pressure/chances on goal. Ambrose is a class above and is developing a great partnership with Baird, who just clears his lines and lets Efe do the bollwork!

Play like we did in first half against Dundee we should be fine especially with Graham and/or Tiff back .Play like we did in second half we may as well turn not up .In saying that Morton’s horrible ,wee narrow pitch is a leveller .

    1-1 .

Partick Admittedly have the widest pitch in the division together with Hamilton and Inverness. The narrowest are Cove and Raith Rovers and the rest are pretty similar. The Cappielow pitch looks smaller because the lines are so close to the terracing walls.

  10. Maybe I’m a bit old school, but much as I’ve always loved Raith Rovers’ stadium, I always rated them alongside Hamilton Accies as the most anti-football teams I’ve ever seen, so I don’t get this new Pep-espues poshness that they are somehow technically superior to Morton. Having said that, I like to see a variation in football between passing and being more direct. I really can’t remember Raith ever being the team with a style I would want to aspire to, so I just don’t get the tone from some Raith fans on here.
