Out of interest where did the ref get six minutes of stoppage time from?

Maybe the dumbarton goalie taking as long as he could over ever goal kick.   Having to stop and record yellows and reds.  Probably had to nip out for a new pen at half time.  Give time for subs all adds up.   Again to be fair.  Time waisting wasn't as bad some I've seen previously.

Away ye fucking go. The bookings for dissent were fairly ridiculous and I’m fairly certain if the shoe was on the other foot you’d be spitting feathers. I’m not saying Airdrie didn’t deserve the win but for a team to be reduced to 8 men when the referee has dished out 4 yellows, a straight red and sent off the gaffer for dissent then questions have to be asked.

I’d be astounded if any Airdrie fan who watched via live stream or attended the match have ever seen such a flurry of cards for what was effectively f**k all. I’d be lording it up if I was an Airdrie fan but lets not pretend all those cards were the norm.

To be fair I agree if the game and swung the other way there would have been a meltdown.    Also the ref missed a good handball shout at 2-1 that most other airdrie fans around me were also saying we got away with one there.

What was a fairly even game really didn't have to end that way.  The ref set out early on with how he was going to be.   One or two yellows for talking back regardless of what's said the rest should have taken the warning also.

The way our stadium is set up with airdrie fans behind the away dugout the away subs then away fans behind the home dugout does usually look like players celebrating infront or the other teams fans.    A few dumbarton players didn't need the gestures to home fans at 2-2 but understandable given how the situation was.    Goalie coach was being an arse banging on the dugout at the penalty save the again at the goal.    The home celebrating was aimed mostly at him.  Got just what he deserved at the end.    Dumbarton have a decent team going forward and caused us more problems in defence than most teams have.  Will be interesting to see how their squad copes at so many suspensions due.

Absolute and utter pish. There are no offensive words or connotations in the song. Fashanu was a black man who had outed himself as being gay. Both "black" and "gay" are the PC descriptions for each of those characteristics and the song was a celebration of the man who played for "Airdaray". Had there been any other words used that were either derogatory or offensive then you'd have a case but the truth is that it's as inoffensive today as it was then. You'll be telling us next that "he's fat he's round he's worth a million pounds, Stevie Gray" is offensive on the ground that some of the more obese in the world could be upset by it.

Nae doubt you're one of these folks with their heid in the clouds who think that someone with a cock and balls can claim to be a woman.

Thank your for proving my point some are still living in the past.

I believe in 2021 people can choose to be who or what ever they choose to be.   Still everyone has their right to believe what they like.

Probably nothing as long as the player said they were happy with the song.

"Davie Dodds, the Elephant Man" on the other hand .....

As I said previously the world has moved on.    To sing a song that only mentions skin colour and sexual orientation but people are fine with it as it isn't intended as offensive.   It's how it's viewed by others in 2021.    Black or white if I said something to you witch is offensive to others doesn't make it ok if even said as a joke.   25 years ago when fashanu played for us he wasn't likely to come out and say he was offended by his own support and possibly make things worse.

Im not going to go trawling back through but I’m not sure that’s correct? There was someone on Facebook that completely misinterpreted what someone else had written and wrongly presumed there was a witness. That then seems to have been repeated in a few places (including here from memory). But I’m not sure there’s a confirmed witness.
Anyway, the person should be banned but let’s stop with the suggestion the fashanu song was being offensive etc (not aimed at you

What would happen if this song was started about a player today?

The song was not intended to be offensive in the same way Asians or black guys were given nick names due to skin colour in the 70s and 80s.   This was seen as ok as the person didn't take it to be racist.  The world has moved on.   For anyone to say a song that only mentions he's black and gay is a joke.  To say or sing something offensive or even intended as a joke is just wrong.   The song has been sung for many years but it's how it's taken by people today not 25 years ago.

  6. I have to say I do get where g_h is coming from.    There have been plenty posts from airdrie to quite rightly condem what's happened with Rico.

We have fans who will post how shocked and horrified they are but will happy go and sing the fashanu song as its intended as admiring to our former striker.   He himself said the song was fine and didn't upset him at the 1st openly gay/bi to come out in football.    The world has moved on but many of our support are still stuck in the 1970s.  If this was sung about any player today their would be uproar.

It embarrassing enough when we play big games particularly celtic and for one game all there airdrie die hards come out and our real fans end up with the bad name.  I'm not saying this is not an airdrie fan but with out names and addresses given for individual seat allocations it's pretty much impossible to track one individual down unless details are given directly.   I see the same faces at games but have no idea who they are as most say nobody heard this I don't see how this can be resolved.     It is another embarrassing episode for our club and fans that will undoubtedly be used to term all airdrie fans as racist.

I'm not an expert but I believe the dynamic is captured by a concept called intersectionality.  There are different kinds of privilege / disadvantage.  In places like the US and UK, if I'm white, male, hetero, rich and have no disability then I have maximum privilege.  If I'm female, poor, gay, black and have a disability then I'm fucked.  All variants in between exist somewhere on the privileged / fucked continuum.

I do agree with what's been posted about this going by what you said what's your opinion on the fashanu song sung by more than a few voices usually at away games?

I see Thomas Robert has ended up in the Belgian second tier. It’s still a step up from Airdrie but a real step down from the links and trials he’s had over the last year. It was fun for a few months last year when he was signed and then found some form in October/November but I can’t say we miss him too much or that I’d be desperate to see him back.

Overall he has to be considered a poor signing.    Arrived on his dad's reputation and from day 1 we were told we would only a stepping stone to a bigger club.   Clearly not as good as his agent thinks he is.  I remember 3 games last season that could be said he played well.   All the rest he's sat on the bench or was poor.     Couldn't get a game in league 1 but was still whored around Europe every week.    Good luck to him Overall glad he's off the wage bill.

What's the chances of the wee cup match on Friday going ahead?

Our players who have been out with covid are due to return this week.  Should be fine for the weekend.  The only worry would be we haven't trained as squad and the last few weeks aside are still trying to find a starting 11.   Quite looking forward to Friday night football and seeing that QP away top.

  10. I've had a quick check and the rules are a little vague.   It depends really on if some has tested positive themselves or just been in close contact with some who has.   Its the close contact thing that is most open to interpretation.  10 days before a player can return to training but as previous fitness levels will differ if the player has been fit enough to train on their own.    For a game to be postponed it will need agreement from both clubs and spfl should be notified 48 hours before scheduled kick off.   Their is a rule for major events happening to a team like 10 broken legs in a squad and the sfa have to help with postponing games but no rules for covid.   So it seems if both teams don't agree then the game must go ahead.

  11. Can't add mutch to what's been posted already.   Decent crowd for 1st league game.   Main points from today.   1 josh kerr can't be relied on as center of a back 3.   2  still need a ball winning midfielder to actually tackle rather than drop deeper as the game goes on.  3.  Both strikers making the same runs and challenging for the same headers.     4  18 quid for the worst game I've seen in years.

I was just coming on to post about this. It feels like he's been linked with/trained with just about everyone this summer.

I'd seen Dundee United mentioned a while back, then Celtic, Burnley and now Salford. He'd have been far better staying at Airdrie, getting a full season under his belt and then getting offered a move elsewhere - not just trials here, there and everywhere.

That's pretty much what we were told the plan was for him to play for us last season and move on this season with us being given a fee to buy out his contract.    He looked pretty decent at the start and right from league game 1 he was linked with premier league clubs.  Then after his trial with celtic it's more like he sat on the bench waiting for an offer from a club further up the football food chain.  I think most of us are surprised he came back for pre season.   A trial with celtic, Burnley and Salford and no offer having sat on the bench most of last season for a league 1 club says it all really.

  13. It could also be we are going with a smaller squad overall this season.   The last couple of sessions we have had a few younger guys who for various reasons were not given game time.   I would think teams further up the league system will be sorting witch players they are willing to loan out.  So their will most likely be a few loans coming in who would be expected to be given starting places.

Well I like it better than last season’s yellow effort already!

I don't think they should expect many orders without showing what it actually looks like.    Does it have a red diamond.  Last years 3rd kit didn't.   Red diamond and white sponsor has the potential to look horrific.   Will reserve judgement till we see it.

No offence but who acc cares? As long as they do the business?

My reason for asking is full time players will have more chance to improve as footballers.   Quite a few are unimpressed with the new signings.  If the they play and train full time they can gel as a squad quicker and maybe avoid the problems of past seasons where its taken a few weeks into the season for them to play as a team.   Part timers are fine but will naturally take longer.

Called it,   any more news on the Goodwillie rumour. 😉

Not a chance.   He contracted to clyde till atleast the end of 2023 season so would cost to buy out his contract.  Would add to the cost of losing a good few fans including myself as no way I'd be renewing a season ticket and having to explain to kids why everyone shouts beast everytime he goes near the ball.

Very pleased at these 2 staying on and the captaincy etc.  Still waiting to see that the lively young winger , but I did mention Tynecastle , although a Dumbarton duff was not on my horizon if that is true.

Also pleased to both are staying.

We need a statement from the club to say what the targets are for this season.   If we are going to push for a league win the we will need a bigger budget to attract better quality.    If its play offs and budget is the same the expect more signings from clubs at our level.  When I read managers comments saying  this season promotion is the only progress then I'd expect a higher caliber of player to come.   My thoughts are if we are signing players from clubs who finished lower than us last season and fans of these clubs saying the not bothered to lose them then that's not improving the starting 11.  Maybe improve the overall squad unless it's the best players from these teams and their fans are disappointed to lose them.

No watching the Morton game  shows what we are lacking,

Yes.  From last season where the target was reach the play offs.   Morton games showed squad weren't able to compete with a poor championship team but we were missing a few in each game who would have started those games.

Now it's about upcoming season.    If serious about winning the league we need better than what we had last year.    Like I said we need to see who stays first then improve on what we had last season.
