Not the law that's the issue if you ask me its the way it's enforced under var that is. Football was never meant to be officiated down to the last mm.  Don't agree with the daylight idea though as you would end up with defences lying far too deep and standing off every attacker making it far too easy. I just don't agree with the whole lines rubbish. Again football was never meant to be officiated using lines. Give the var official a couple of looks from different angles with the naked eye and if he can't decide whether it's off or on  you go with the onfield decision.  I can't remember ever going home after a Falkirk game and getting a ruler out to stick on the TV to see if someone's big toe was offside or not. If it's that close you can't tell with the naked eye then just go with the linesman instead of this lines rubbish.

Wish we'd had VAR in 1997

  2. We'll be fine next year as long as we leave enough room in the budget for 4-5 decent summer signings.  The core is there but we'll need to replace the squad players with better quality.  Do that and we should be play off challengers at least.

Dunfermline have been honking this year.  We finished 7pts clear of Airdrie over 36 games last year and they're in with a shout of play offs with Todorov up front.  ICT are terrible and only likely to get worse etc.  As are Ayr.

Not seeing much to be frightened of to be honest.

    FSS Bairns Survey is live.

Really important to engage with it because as it will help set the priorities for the Committee to work towards over the summer and into the next season.

Just in case it doesn't come through strongly enough in the feedback....we MUST keep red shoulders on the home kit.

Was a given we'd win the league as soon as that was announced.

  4. If Fyvie is out of contract at Cove I'd be putting a cheeky offer under his nose to consider (can only say no).  Martin would also be of interest.

McGovern had a good game v Celtic yesterday which suggests there's still life in him.  Likes Burgoyne too but not sure he'd be on McGlynns radar much and wages may be too high in any case.

  5. Has to be Morrison POTY for me and Yeats YPOTY

Ross and Tait I'd try to keep.  Despite Olivers recent efforts he's had enough chances in the 10 and sole striker roles for us to know what to expect.  Have to remember too that the standard of opposition this season is much poorer than it will be next.  Hamilton/QOS both teams he could do well in next year

This thread contains well over a decade of discussion around Falkirk Football Club; most of the Pressley era, Farid kissing the coin, Challenge Cup Winners, three Scottish Cup semis, a Scottish Cup final, Houstie winding up all the right folk while building a beautiful 2015/16 side (who I still sometimes dream of); Bob McHugh's ridiculous run of last minute goals, cranes, hot tubs, trucks, numerous play-off campaigns, the buzz of the Hartley summer and the consequent collapse and relegation, Covid, Gary Holt getting trebucheted, the infamous Q&A, the Sheerin, Rennie and Griffiths banter months, fan ownership finally being secured and getting ourselves on a decent footing and finally, every detail of the glory of potentially one of the greatest seasons in the clubs recent history. And many, many more too. All under one roof. An institution. Long live The Falkirk FC Thread.

All the comments turned into a book would make for interesting reading and could be a money spinner.  An alternative history of Falkirk FC 2011-2024

Clearly any talk of a rebuild is nonsense- we have the basis of a good side for next season. However, it will be a step up and we will require additional quality in a number of positions imo.

Long, McKay, McGinn and Lawal will be leaving. Personally I also wouldn’t be retaining Mackie, Oliver or Shanley and would look to move Allan on.

We will then need imo a GK, RB, CB, LB, CM (possibly Tait), no 10 and ST. I would consider offering Ross a deal but would want to see a lot more from him first.

Agree with this.  I think Tait has shown enough now and would keep him if isn't disruptive.  Ross was apparently on very good money at Raith.  Would like to see him play a few games in the 10 role instead of Nesbitt to see how he gets on there.

The others absolutely must go for me to free up space for better

I was explaining this to my missus yesterday. I've watched some utter utter UTTER dross the past 5 years. Travelled up and down the country to be let down by utter charlatans. Personal lowlights have been

    Airdrie 6-2 Falkirk

    Falkirk 0-3 Montrose

    Falkirk 0-3 Cove rangers

    Queens Park 6-0 Falkirk

    Partick 5-0 Falkirk

    Falkirk 0- 1 Clyde

So forgive me for being a bit excited at the thought of winning a title.

There was also a home defeat to QOS when they had 143 shots (think it ended 3 nil?)

  9. Long may not have lost us any league games but we've certainly dropped points due to his mistakes and we've also gone out of cups earlier than we should have.  I could just about understand the rotation if they were both our keepers but only 1 is, and he's the one who looks more likely to develop so play him.

  10. If he fancies another season, and is fit, I'd still be looking to bring McGovern in as first choice next year in a player/coach role.  Bags of experience which Hogarth & Hayward can learn from.

As for the 10, I agree it's likely to be Nesbitt.  I think Ross or Tait could also play there.  I don't think Ross is necessarily best out wide.

Ross said has yet to receive an offer from Raith, I don’t think he’s in a position to be too demanding or picky if we are indeed trying to sign him. He’s most certainly good enough and has shown it when he’s played, only having arguably the two best players in the league in front of him with Miller and Morrison has limited his appearances. I hope we are trying to keep him, having both him and Alfie on the bench gives us excellent depth and has no doubt kept both Miller and Morrison on their toes. A few bad games for either of them and nobody would bat an eye lid at either of them switching out for either Ross or Alfie.

I doubt Raith will be offering Ross a deal, it'll come down to whether he's happy to sign with us knowing he's not first choice and what he's being offered elsewhere

Tait is the best footballer technically we have. We must try and get him. Absolute Rolls Royce. Made an impact in the 3 games he has come on in.

Would be madness to tie him up before he's even played a full 90 minutes.  He has a chance over the next 12 games.  His cameos have been promising (though nothing like the incredible level you're suggesting) and need to see much more.  What we can't afford to do is have  passengers on high wages next season.

Controversial but so far I don’t think Ross, Shanley or Tait have shown enough to warrant a contract for a division above. This can change with the final 12 games, but I think we have to be really careful here. That’s 3 full wages - a wage that could be spent on quality which we will absolutely need if we go up.

    Agree 100%

Ross I think is ahead of the other two at this point but we haven't seen anything like enough from the other 2 to think they'll cut it in the Championship.  At the time we took the loan, Raith fans were saying Ross was one of their higher earners too so he won't come cheap.

Overall we've had a brilliant season and we absolutely should be getting carried away but I hope McGlynn is keeping his feet on the ground.  Not all our players who've done really well this year will replicate that in the league up.  Defensively we'll lose many more goals and be under a lot more pressure in games than we've been this year.  Physically too we need to be up to the test.

I'd like to see a new keeper, some more strength in defence/full back cover and someone like Martin for the midfield.  Shanley is nowhere near as strong as MacIvor (based on what we've seen) so would like some stronger cover and if I'm being greedy someone with a decent scoring record to challenge up top.

We can't get all that if we extend the 3 mentioned plus anyone like Oliver or the keepers.

  14. Changes last night were fairer on Mackie, Shanley & Ross than the mass changes we saw at Edinburgh.  Can only really tell how effective the subs might be if they get a run out with the usual starters beside them.

Suspect we might see Alfie and Oliver start on Saturday for Nesbitt & Morrison with Miller and MacIvor back in.

Not even sure Arfield is walking into Charlotte’s midfield

Slightly higher level than the Scottish Championship...  he was playing against Messi as recently as October.

Talking of Messi.  He's getting on a bit too.  Just s well he's not available. Would probably slow us down and we'd be better sticking with Nesbitt.

Seriously?...you are saying you'd have arfield...who I'm guessing you've not seen play since he left sevco before Spencer or Henderson..wow

Is this a wind up?  Arfield would be an incredible signing and it blows my mind that you think he'd be worse than Spencer or Henderson

  17. I think Agyeman has more to offer and would keep him.  He's young and did well in the early part of the season until he lost his place.  When he comes on he often battles well and is raw but powerful.  Would have liked to have seen him replace MacIvor up top more often than always seeing him on the wing.

Oliver, not for me.  Anonymous too many times last season and in his appearances this.  We'll need better for the Championship.

  18. We'll definitely need to strengthen, but we've got plenty of time to worry about that.

As for Ross MacIvor, I was in the underwhelmed camp when he signed but I don't think anyone could honestly say they expected the impact he's had.  Lots of people also complained Morrison was overrated in the past and given too much credit but it really doesn't matter.  We're 11 pts clear and playing well.  I'm sure everyone is delighted with how the seasons playing out.
