  1. Our achilles heel will continue to be our defence in my opinion.  We should be capable against most teams in the league and I expect us to beat Stirling on Tuesday but I don't have confidence that we can play teams like Hamilton or Cove and not concede at least once.  It also feels inevitable we'll draw and lose other games for that reason that we really should be winning.

Hamilton are a team built on a strong defence with a bit of grit in midfield.  They won't lose many games.

Extended deals for bang average players issued under Holt and McGlynn is one of the major issues we’ve had over the last number of years and a big reason why the budget is now gone.

Exactly.  Not sure why this is difficult to understand.

I've gone full circle on this over the last few years from supporting the early Sheerin team and berating folk for negativity at that time but we're in our 5th season in League 1 so its getting hard to stay upbeat and agree when posters tell us it's ok to keep last years failures as 'squad players' (when we know Oliver and Nesbitt etc will play most weeks) instead of bringing in better.

The RB chat has been done to death.  My view is McGlynn thought the boards budget would be extended to cover one or two more after Lang and Spencer used up a big chunk.  I'd have been far happier to have had a RB for the first league match than not.

As for players on long contracts sticking around when not wanted. Brad McKay.

I like everyone else will be there on Saturday hoping for a strong start and if we win and are playing well I'll back McGlynn to the hilt but last season gives me no confidence he'll turn it round.  Hope I'm wrong!

IIRC McGinn and Oliver triggered options.

By what metric was Blaine Rowe not good enough? I'm not saying he was or he wasn't, but what is the measure you are using to say that so definitively?

My opinion based on watching him week in week out. He wasn't solid defensively and he offered nothing going forward to the extent he eventually lost his place to a perenially injured ghost.

Well McGlynn obviously thought that Mackie was good enough or he wouldn't have signed him.

What about all the other players that he's signed that aren't good enough? You don't think he should have signed any of them?

Not sure what you're getting at here. Of course McGlynn shouldn't be signing players he knows aren't good enough. Far less giving them 2 year deals.

As others have pointed out, McCann is better than Mackie, there was no need to bring him in and less need to give him a 2 year deal.

Resigning the likes of Nesbitt, Oliver, McGinn etc won't improve us, it just keeps us at the same level as last year which we all saw was miles short in the end. Also why calls for Blain Rowe are ridiculous, he also wasn't good enough so why get him back?

We need the new signings to be better to improve us and being tied to long term contracts and rewarding failure reduces our options on that front as we're seeing now, going into the first league game without a right back.

So you think that McGlynn knew that those players weren't good enough when he signed them?

I remember folk lauding Mackie in the LC games last season, particularly when he wiped out that Hibs player and, to be fair to the guy, we haven't really seen a lot of him since.

Do you feel that only one year deals should be given to all players?

Edit to say that I can just imagine the amount of whining on here from some if, for example, Alfie was only given a one year deal and he walked away for nothing when we wanted to keep him as he turned out to be a superstar!

Since he had him at Raith I'd say yes, he should have known Mackie wouldn't be good enough.

As for Nesbitt, the point is as much the 2 year deal as it is the player. Sure, we won't pay for the 2nd year now but it'll reduce our options next summer. Just as still having the likes of Donaldson, Mackie, Oliver, McGinn and McKay used up budget this summer we could have spent elsewhere.

I'd far rather give 1 year deals and if they're so good we miss out on a potential fee then at least they've positively contributed and we're hopefully going up at that stage. We've been burnt much more in the last few years by 2 &3 year deals than we have by losing amazing players we only had for a year.

Apart from the odd unbelievable signing (which we haven't had for years) or promising young players we're bringing through, no-one should be worth a 2 year deal. I don't believe we had to offer McKay, Oliver etc longer deals (or guaranteed extension triggers) to fend off other clubs. Very few sniffing about these bottom of the full time bucket type pros.

  6. As poor as Donaldson has been we simply can't drop him when the only other option is Brad McKay.

Fixing the defence should have been our no.1 priority in the summer. An experienced keeper, RB and 2 X centre halves were needed. Hamstrung again by long contracts stopping us from moving players like Donaldson, Mackie & McKay on in the summer.

Not been on here all summer, took some time out from FFC related stuff after the absolute shambles against Airdrie. Came back on here for a look after the Arbroath and Spartans game (I attended both).

    Some of you c***s on here don't deserve a good football team. I've never read so much greeting faced p***ks in all my life. Since Saturday I've seen shouts for ;

    1. McGlynn to be sacked (even though we have no money) at the start of the season (sure there's a quote about how insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results)

    2. If he is sacked, keeping Smith (his fucking number 2) and making him manager 🤣

    3. scrapping the fucking youth academy to free up funds 🤣🤣🤣

    4. This is probably the worst one for me, going after VOLUNTEERS, who help out at the club in their spare time because they didn't provide enough celebrations when we scored in a cup tie against Spartans. That goes for the posters slagging the old commentary guys too.

Hang your heads in Fucking shame you greeting face c***s. I'm no happy clapper but f**k me man. We've played 1 league cup tie and have *checks notes* 6 (SIX) weeks left until the transfer window shuts.

    gimps x

I don't agree with all these views either but but its a discussion forum and no league games played yet and just off the back of total collapse in Q4 with no signs (yet) pre season that we're going to be better this year.  What do you expect to be talking about?!

COYB on Facebook would really blow your mind if your triggered by these

We went on a 13-game unbeaten run, and got to a Scottish cup semi-final for the firsts time since f**k knows, ok the draw being favourable or not I see that as a positive despite the end result.  As I mentioned some of the posters on here just seem to want to see us fail or any reason to say i told you so, I'm not a happy clapper I'm a realist if you want to see the team win week in and week out then follow one of the arse-cheeks mate.  I would love for us to steamroller every f**king team in this league but i know we will fall at some point and even at that one-week folk would still call for McGlynns head even if we were to win week in and week out sitting at the top of the League with 100 points at the end of the season so how about giving it a rest and cut a a bit of slack and for once be a realist on how its going to go if we are cut adrift with quarter of the games done then so be it but ffs go and start up One F again as your honestly soul crushing p and b

As for squad as much is Yeats isn't a RB the young lad gives a shite which can be said more and as much as we don't like it we also have Brad McKay (albeit the 2 of them are not natural right backs but hey it is what it is). Allen is making an adjustment to full time football and as for MacIver gie the lad a chance look at players in the past like Gareth Hutchison came to us from Stenny and was a sprinter originally done not too bad, Cadette on his first game for us didn't look like he would do much either even players like Marino Keith so how about gie them a chance before you hang them. So far you want McGlynn and most of them canned as not good enough before the leagues started i don't even know what is good enough and if we were see Ken Eadie as an example there is no guarantee they are going to work for us regardless what system is played.

This sounds very much like a Gary Holt speech

I've watched Falkirk for 40 odd years. Pre league campaign matches mean absolutely feck all. I've seen us be brilliant and get relegated I've seen us be poor and do fine . I said that on here when some folk were creaming theirselves over the way we were playing in Houston's last pre season.  Annan is the crunch for me. We need to be ready then.

Fair enough, I just don't see anything to suggest we're going to be fine with these players and tactics (and I've been watching for about 35 years).

Out of jail tonight but on the showings so far we'll maybe sneak past Annan but Cove away isn't a fixture I'm particularly looking forward to.  We need to up our game in every department.
