  1. What is it with people on here? I'm perfectly polite, and willing to have a reasonable debate, but I'm met with abuse. So your point is that it is a question of numbers and generations? I'm quite sure there must be a few thousand Britons living in a city as large as Rome, and I would imagine there might be many thousands of people from other territories that were subjugated and oppressed by the Romans. But for argument's sake, suppose 10,000 Britons moved to Rome and established a community there. After a couple of generations, would it be legitimate for the descendants of those British children to demand the removal of statues commemorating Roman Emperors who enslaved their ancestors?
  2. Oh dear. Ad hominem. It's very easy to call people names when you're sitting safely behind your keyboard in Yorkshire. If that's your level of debate then you're going on ignore.
  3. Well firstly a vocal minority should not be allowed to implement change, we live in a democracy. Should we all become vegetarian or vegan because ten percent of the population find the consumption of meat objectionable. Also changes to society should not be implemented by mobs, but through democratic means.
  4. You need to explain how my argument's fallacious. If your contribution is just "you're wrong" then it's pretty pointless, and you should save yourself the effort.
  5. See my reply to Bairnardo. If I were to move to Rome, would it be reasonable for me to demand the removal of statues commemorating Roman emperors who oversaw the colonisation of foreign lands and enslavement of the inhabitants of those lands? If not, why not?
  6. This is one step away from the classic "if they want tae live here they need tae learn our language" shout. If I was to move to Rome, would it be reasonable for me to demand that certain statues are removed? I am British and Britons were conquered and enslaved by Romans. Therefore should I object to statues glorifying the people who enslaved my ancestors? I'm merely applying the logic used by many people on here to another situation.
  7. The Colston statue was erected over one hundred years ago, at a time before there was any significant presence of BAME people in the UK. It's wrong IMHO to choose to move to another country and then demand that they start removing statues that they find offensive. What if I was to move to Rome, and then decide that the Italians should remove statues of Roman emperors because they invaded Britain and enslaved native Britons?
  8. Can't go wrong with black and white stripes and a round collar.
  9. I totally agree with you. However a lot of people seem to believe her parents lied about the events of the night, and even that they arranged for her abduction. I think it must be awful for them to live with the guilt of what's happened, and to have gossips implicating them in all sorts of horrible things. I even remember a Rangers supporting friend claiming the father was something to do with Celtic FC and...well I won't repeat the rest.
  10. I know. How will we all sleep?! It had better be legendary after this...
  11. Agree, it's a belter. Designed by the fans and no manufacturer's label on it?!
  12. I saw that the other day, and agree with his first choice. as I like the traditional style and the plain collar. Even the little bit of red is nice. The second highest ranking one is awful, though.
  13. I've heard from a colleague who has a friend in the know that the new kit is scheduled to be released this week, and might even be tomorrow.
  14. I just hope all of those who were complicit in removing, and pretending to be offended by, the statue of a man who died almost 300 years ago, doesn't wear clothes and electronic equipment produced in Third World sweatshops, or at least buys them secondhand from charity shops, like I do. My laptop's from work, btw. Nothing worse than a virtue signalling hypocrite.
  15. Psst...A Nazi was a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party.
  16. Eh? You didn't know East Germany was a socialist state? Happy to make your acquaintance, btw.
  17. noun 1. a continuous vertical brick or stone structure that encloses or divides an area of land. "a garden wall"
  18. To be fair there's a big difference between a wall designed to keep people captive in their socialist hellhole and a statue...
