  1. Still getting over Tuesday night.

Contrary to reports I didn’t think we played to our usual high standards but difficult to fault players, more than enough effort to win the game just something didnt click imo.

Thought we were average in the 1st half and huffed and puffed in the 2nd. Didn’t think the goal was coming until Easton scored. At this point in my opinion we should’ve cut our cloth sat back and tried to see it out time wasted etc like Clyde had done all night.

Think their first goal Kerr bombed forward and we ended up with a 3v3 at the back. The instruction should’ve been to see it out.

If you’re going for titles you need a keeper that bails you out at times and Currie seems to be somewhat of an Enigma. Some games you come away thinking he’s made a couple of really good saves but the two goals on Tuesday he should’ve done a lot better, the first caught in no man’s land and the second he had years to get to the original shot from miles out.

I get why people are desperate to sign a striker, however, only cove have scored more in total than us whereas if you look at the defence we’ve conceded more than cove, Queens Park and Montrose so maybe that’s where we should be focusing on. Especially with Dycey going off injured. Any length of time he could be out for would be a disaster.

Barring a Mortonesque Cove collapse it’s difficult to see past them winning it. 3 tough games coming up. Hopefully we can continue to solidify our playoff spot and see where we end up.

  2. That’s Murray seen off McKinnon, Miller/ McCracken, Holt, Sheerin and now Coach Rennie… wonder who’ll be next.

Pretty good afternoons work for us thought going forward we were excellent especially McGill, Easton and Frizzell. Max also with a couple of good saves. The most pleasing part of the squad this year is players can drop out or in and seem to fit in seamlessly which has to be credit to the coaching staff.

Funny to see Rennie’s criticism of the ref, the second half everything went Falkirk’s way, we had an arguably good goal chopped off and McKay could’ve easily been sent off for a second yellow. Not to mention a good few questionable decisions going Falkirk’s way.

Hope we can keep the momentum going.

Also As someone else mentioned about not being bothered about Leon McCann leaving. I was the same. He’s very lightweight and although fast up and down the wings his crosses into the box are often hopeless.

I suppose he’s technically away so hopefully that’s just things being tidied up while Quitongo was being removed. I’m not convinced McInroy will be coming back but if he does I expect it to be later in the window now.

It’s probably not as bad given we play a narrow diamond formation but looking at our squad page now makes the squad seem very unbalanced. Two keepers, three centre backs (two of them are often injured), two right backs, seven central midfielders and six strikers (two are injured long-term and another is Patrick Pyott). Obviously the squad was built for a 3-5-2 and we’ve lost two wing-backs since then but even then, it’s quite an odd balance. Other than not having left back it’s probably ok for our current formation but we might have an issue if things stop working, though I suppose players like McCabe and Scott McGill have proven their versatility so far this season. It just makes bringing in the right players this month even more important.

Hoping you’re right about McInroy I fear the worst though had plenty of time to get the loan sorted and extended and for whatever reason it’s not been sorted and he’s no longer with us.

Without an airdrie hat on I think it would be a mistake on McInroys part to opt to not stay. He’ll play every week and is doing well. Can put himself in the shop window for the summer and leave with everyone’s best wishes.

Have faith in the management team to get it right though if that’s McInroy coming back or getting someone else in.

  4. Hopeful of McInroy staying until the end of the season. Without an airdrie hat on I’d imagine playing every week in a team performing well must be a big swaying factor. I’m sure he’s destined for bigger and better things and I’m sure he’d leave in the summer with everyone’s best wishes.

Also Jamie Brandon signed with Morton, that puts 1 rumour to bed at least.

I don't think so, I think he goes to punch it and it sclafs off his knuckles and in.

Can actually hear the Dumbarton players in the video saying "Sam's, SAMS...........f*ck me man" the last wee bit is said with such lack of surprise as well.

I know keepers tend to get the benefit of the doubt but that was one of the worst decisions from a referee in that scenario that I’ve seen. Gallagher does nothing to impede him whatsoever.

  6. Seems to be a bit of needle between the two sides now which adds to the intrigue over this game.

Dumbarton’s decline has been strange in the sense they’ve improved their squad and manager yet find themselves in the same position.

Dumbarton will be fresher having not played tonight but Confident we will create plenty chance we just need to make sure we take them.

Not sure we could buy out a 3 year contract and I'm pretty sure Falkirk won't be in a hurry to loan him out to a "promotion rival".

    I'd have him back fwiw

Hadn’t realised it was a 3 year deal mate, that’s mental at our level yet another mad Falkirk decision they may come to regret.

With makeshift LB McGill going off injured tonight it reiterates that A new LB must be top of the list in positions to address in January. I certainly would have him back if the opportunity came about but wouldn’t bend over backwards to get him.

Sure I've replied to a similar query before. Just because he has a left foot doesn't mean he'd be decent there. In my opinion he just doesn't have the legs for it. He'd not be able to get up and down the park and also lacks pace. He's playing his best position right now, breaking up play, moving the ball on quickly etc. Wouldn't move him tbh.

Fair enough. By no means was I suggesting it would work just suggesting it was a possibility. His ability to get up and down the flanks maybe a problem. He’s done well in the role he’s currently in though like you say whoever comes in over the next few weeks I’d like aggy to have some place in the starting 11.

As for tonight’s came I thought it would be another case of ruing the missed opportunities as we could’ve been out of sight at half time but credit to airdrie for soaking it up when we had to and McInroy for providing a touch of class. Was surprised at QP, not sure if it was just an off day for them but they never really laid a glove on us. I understand they had injuries but so do we.

Now to follow it up on Saturday.

Like it or not, McCabe has done well at the back, reads the game well and is pivotal in us playing it out from the back on the deck and not going for long punts. Having said that, his long balls ain't too bad either as Gall will testify to following his goal on Sunday.

The question is, does moving McCabe to midfield strengthen our midfield more than it weakens our defence? For me, the answer is no.

McCabe has the quality and experience to play anywhere on the park imo. The only vulnerability I feel is the lack of height at the back. Alloa exposed us a couple of times from set pieces, max currie isn’t the most commanding in the box either.

Like I’ve mentioned before I don’t know why we don’t try Agnew at LB good left foot, good tackler and will get good crosses into the box. Would free up a space in midfield for McCabe.

As for the game tonight I’d imagine like the previous encounters with QP it will be tight and they play good stuff.

It’s about time we “win” a big game though.

If the  club would just let us the fans know  how our players are progressing or not, I for one keep looking to see any update on Salim, Kerr, Lyons and now McGill,

Totally agree would be good to hear more about the injury situation.

As I mentioned about Kerr there is no doubt over his qualities but the fact he doesn’t manage more than a handful of games before injury is a real worry and that’s now been the case for a few seasons.

Having not played a league game on a Saturday afternoon since 20th November, and after fearing early in the week that covid might do for this games chances of going ahead at all, it was obviously hugely frustrating not to see it finished. Although visibility at halftime wasn't too bad, I don't think many would have been surprised had the ref called it off then and there. Certainly that was the expectation of many in and around me at the time.

Giving himself ten minutes to think about it, shortly after having had 15 minutes to think about it (and allowing time for a team to take a lead, to boot) was pretty amateur hour; the chances of the weather doing anything overall other than getting worse were slim to nil. It's Cumbernauld in a stadium at the bottom of a hill with a loch beside it. In December. After 4pm. A brief glance at any weather app you care to mention showed that the fog was not expected to lift and, indeed, it never did all night. It's foggy still in the 'nauld as I type this message. That he didn't call it at half time could well have ended a players season. No way the ref can know that, but nonetheless the fact remains. A half-time call off, on balance, was the call that should have been made.

The game was only going one way at the point it was abandoned, with another Airdrie goal in the post, especially with the hilariously woeful attempts of the clyde goalie at both Airdrie goals already scored, so that adds to the frustration. That being said, beating Clyde in the re-arranged match ought to be easy enough; they are quite remarkably dreadful. I just hope Gabby isn't as badly injured as it appears. It looked horrific at the time.

Agreed, no consistency shown by the SPFL making us play at Montrose in gale force winds then not seeing out the last 15 mins in a game we were strolling to victory in because of fog. And, to make matters worse we’ve now lost our best out and out striker in a totally meaningless 70 odd minutes of football. We’ve been shafted there’s no doubt it.

No doubt about it, we HAVE to win this game, and that's no slander on Clyde btw, but for our own ambitions, we MUST win.

Goodwillie will get his customary goal or 2, so we'll have to put away at least 2 chances I would think.  The teams not been wildly different the last wee while, so we'll see what happens. Probably make the trip for this one since it may be the last for a while 😔.

Agreed. A must win. I hope the players show a reaction after the last 2 league poor performances against cove and Montrose. Having said that Clyde’s record against us is rotten, Since that last defeat at Broadwood we’ve beaten Clyde 4 times 13-3 on aggregate.

Quite remarkably if results really went against us tomorrow we could end up closer to East Fife in 10th than Cove in 1st.

    Must win

Saturday's game against Queens Park is crucial not just for our seas o n, Murray's future as well,  we drop that game which is a distinct possibility we could be 9 off the lead, left in a dogfight for fourth, with a now heavily funded Falkirk counting the days until the transfer window...

If Murray was approached for a new challenge,  would he take it......

    Very true…

An undoubtedly bigger wage plus a much larger playing budget may tempt him away.

I have always rated Murray and I think he’s done a decent enough job in improving us and bringing a bit of pride back, so I can see why Falkirk may look at him.

One thing as tonight has reiterated we don’t seem capable of winning the “big” games.

Over the past three seasons I have only had one major criticism, the lack of searching out potent natural goal scorers. I know that our goals for record is comparable with other teams, but as we go further into this league you will see Cove and Queens leave us in their wake for this reason alone. They have experienced guys who know how to find the net when the margins are tight, like tonight against a promotion challenger. I do believe that we will make the playoffs but unless the club finds a striker or two at Christmas then we will still be in the same boat this time next season in my opinion.

I agree and as I have said before that will be downfall of this team in terms of going for the title. Gallagher and Smith bring a lot to the team but to win a league you need a player to reach 20 goals imo and we don’t have one. Salim and Gabby McGill were maybe signed in the Hope one of them could reach those sort of numbers but have both had injury problems to be fair to them so the jury is still out. A player of the calibre of Andy Ryan / Declan McManus is probably the last piece of the jigsaw for this team as I think everyone notices our talent. Having said that finding and funding a 20+ a season goal scorer is easier said than done.

Trying to check our head to head but I don't think we have played Thistle in the Scottish Cup in my lifetime? The last games I was in a crowd at Firhill versus Thistle we lost by 0-7 in season 2012-13 ( Alan Cook at Left back!) but managed to reduce it to 0-1 later in that season .  Obviously we mainly lose there but there have been wins. It was a wee bit close last season in the crowd-less games so I can look forward to a wee trip .

Not in my time anyway. The game at firhill that comes to my mind is the game we won 1-0 in the challenge cup sure that was the season we won it. Di Giacomo scoring.
