  1. Shout out to Gabby McGill for the goal. He somehow ended up at left back, started the move and then played in Gallagher for the goal. Hopefully that does gives him a confidence boost as he’s clearly struggled a bit in the last few games. He looked absolutely delighted at the end and fair play to him.
  2. It’s very early days but that’s us now played all of the teams above us (and Inverness of course) and beaten two of them at home. Three wins at home is a great start and if we can learn from last week then great. We’ve got a few tough but winnable games to finish this quarter, would be great to go on a run. I think we’ve now got a decent result after all of McCabe’s big disasters/horrific performances (Edinburgh 0-6, Edinburgh 3-1, Edinburgh 3-5 (there’s a theme here!), Dunfermline 3-4, Queen of the South 3-2) and last week at Arbroath.
  3. An odd game. I didn’t think Ayr were that great but they were solid enough, didn’t do anything too daft defensively and exploited Queen’s Park very well. They took their goals really well and thoroughly deserved the win. I wasn’t convinced by Queen’s Park before the season and even after three games felt they’d been fortunate to play Inverness and then Arbroath twice before they’d remembered how to play football. I can see why the fans are so concerned with the current set-up, there didn’t seem to be much interest in trying something new or playing in a different way, even at 5-2. The tactics were strange, very high-risk at the back with such a high line but then incredibly risk averse going forward. Players terrified of crossing the ball in, always looking to bring it back and keep the ball moving without much purpose. They made some subs at 5-2 but even then, it was just moving guys around in the same shape and tactics, no change in urgency or approach.
  4. Fair play to BBC Scotland, who consistently show awful games on a Friday night but are missing what a great laugh this is.
  5. I’m amazed at how high it is on such a big pitch. First goal was straight from a corner but the rest have all came from that. Second came from a punt up the park. Third was Dom Thomas refusing to pass the ball on the edge of the box, losing it and then a counter attack. Fourth was Fox losing the ball on the halfway line and Ayr running in behind.
  6. Agree with all of this. I'd probably play Watson again, he was excellent before his injury, but could see Hancock coming in as you say. Gallagher on the wing as a tribute to when Ian Murray used to play him out there and Callum Smith on his own in the middle.
  7. Queen’s Park 1-1 Ayr Airdrie 1-3 Raith Rovers Dunfermline 1-1 Morton Inverness 1-2 Dundee United Partick Thistle 2-1 Arbroath
  8. It’s slightly more of a walk to the away end but I find the new Lidl car park is the best place these days. Generally plenty of spaces, no time limits, short walk to the ground and usually out pretty quickly.
  9. All very fair points. While Smith definitely had the poorest season of our front three last year I think he was probably best equipped to make the step up to the Championship. McGill is a much better player than when he was last at this level but it might take a bit longer for him to adjust his fairly unique playing style to a team who are a bit more patient and less all out attack.
  10. I was thinking of something similar earlier. Aiken and Frizzell would be well suited those roles as two players with plenty of energy and the ability to cover wider areas when needed. I feel like it would have to be McGill up front, Todorov and Gallagher might lack mobility but it’s certainly worth a go.
  11. Now that Raith have finally beat Inverness, I’m hoping we can also finally beat Raith. Feels like every game between us for the last five years has been 1-0 Raith.
  12. Watching back the goals and the 4th reminds me of Edinburgh’s 3rd goal in that miserable 3-1 defeat there last season. Right at the end of a very poor performance, no one interested in tracking a simple run and players appearing to give up. For me our worst two performances last season were that 3-1 Edinburgh game and the 3-2 defeat at Queen of the South. I can forgive the nonsense defeats like the 6-0 Edinburgh game, the 4-3 Dunfermline one etc., as they were mostly just bad tactics, daft errors and were entertainingly bad, but those two I mentioned were just gutless. We put in a big performance the following week after both of those games, so hopefully we see them again next week. We’ll certainly need it against a strong team with plenty of attacking options.
  13. On your last point, I think McCabe is someone who can show up in the big moments. The goals in the Queen’s Park play-offs, the dominant performances in this years play-offs, scoring set-pieces at big times etc. He undoubtedly has more big attributes than McMaster but on the whole I think McMaster gives us better balance. We both harped on about it last season but in the league our best, and most consistent, runs were with McMaster holding. I haven’t seen the goals back from today but we conceded a ridiculous number of goals from just outside the box last season when McCabe was playing holding midfield. I haven’t noticed that to anywhere near the same extent with McMaster in there. I’m a big fan of McCabe, he was my player of the season in 21/22 and think he still has plenty to offer, but I have thought for a while that McMaster makes us a better team in most games.
  14. One of the best teams in the league who we already have a dreadful record against for the last 15 years or so. Not the ideal game to bounce back from today’s nonsense.
  15. I wasn’t there today but McCabe and McMaster has rarely worked together and I don’t think Frizzell works well as a number 10, he’s much better coming from slightly deeper. One of McCabe/McMaster (I think the latter for getting us higher up the park), Aiken as a ball winner who can go up and down and then Frizzell running from deep is a much better fit.
  16. Kyan Gunn has signed for Clyde. A shame to see him go given he seemed to have potential but his goal against St. Mirren was very funny, so we’ll always have that.
  17. Away to Alloa or Rangers B in the diddy cup. A ground we’ve played at loads recently of a B team.
  18. I think @Chapelhall chap mentioned this at the weekend but it’s a great stat. The Montrose one is probably the best given the conditions but I think the Motherwell one will always be my favourite, as I didn’t expect it at all. Is there another player with a higher great goal ratio? Maybe Darren Smith, who bizarrely scored a brilliant free-kick against Dunfermline and did nothing else.
  19. Ayr 1-3 Partick Thistle Arbroath 1-1 Airdrieonians Dundee United 3-0 Morton Queen’s Park 1-0 Dunfermline Raith Rovers 3-1 Inverness
  20. This game would have been preferable a few weeks ago but it seems like Arbroath have started to figure out their best team, with some impressive results since then. McCabe has a few selection issues too. Rae will obviously start in goals/the centre circle. Ballantyne and Fordyce are nailed on to start at the back and if Watson is fit I imagine he’ll come back in too. I think ATS has another game on Wednesday, by the time he flies home will he be ready to play on Saturday? Good options in midfield too now. The big call is McCabe or McMaster and then probably two of McStravick, Frizzell and Aiken. McGill has been poor recently but I imagine he’ll get the nod alongside Gallagher and McGregor. There can’t have been too many games with a bigger age gap between the two managers. Just the 38 years between them! I’m missing this one unfortunately which is a shame, always enjoy a trip to Gayfield (and a steak and black pudding pie or two) and I imagine the next trip there will be considerably colder.
  21. On this, I might have misinterpreted it but I thought the sarcastic cheering when Hancock eventually played a forward pass was embarrassing. No need for it.
