I honestly don’t know how much full member status would benefit Scotland. Where we are is, yes, a niche in that we are in the top 3-4 associate sides, but I don’t think the funding is available to make the step up (a recent graphic showed that Scotland only had $1million in funding allocated by the ICC) and the remainder is made up of flailing commercial income. Playing in the West, certainly, I also don’t have much faith in the governance from Cricket Scotland, especially outside of the EH postcodes. We have league reconstruction it seems every other year, disciplinary standards vary wildly week in week out, and we only seem to have enough umpires to cover the top league in each region reliably. Surely ducks have to be in a row domestically before progress can be made internationally? I also don’t have any faith that should Scotland go to full member, that any funding increases would trickle down to clubs where improvements to facilities must be an objective.

Even Cricinfo’s coverage of this tournament has been shite. I went to Mannofield to cover a tri-series CWC League 2 with UAE & PNG in 2019 for ESPN and even then I was told I should be doing commentary as well as scoring every ball. This time round it looks like they haven’t got anyone and are relying on the ICC’s ball by ball.

Today in WDCU news, the 100th Rowan Cup final (showpiece T20 tournament in the West) at Hamilton Crescent was abandoned after 2 overs for player safety. Seems after an over and a half of playing low and slow one popped off a length and rattled the Prestwick opener on the helmet. Bit of a shambles, really, seeing as West have had a number of report of poor pitches against them this season, as well as not having a groundsman in place for the most part of this term. This, so much this… albeit will depend on the structure of any deal to see how well we do out of it (would take a loan back to start, sell on’s, appearance bonus…). Also wonder how much Jackie Mc will make out of a deal? I did think that Wotherspoon would be a good shout for us despite the interest from Dunfermline given the links.

Class from the Diamonds. Looking forward to a defeat from Inverness and a losing penalty draw with Bonnyrigg to scupper our chances of progressing, though. A wee Cup run would be class.

Adrian Neill is a big haddy medium pacer. Have seen nothing of him in a Scotland kit to suggest he should still be picking up caps. Albeit have said that about the likes of Ali Evans for years and he still manages to get into squads.

Big fan of the strip, only thing is maybe red ‘cuffs’ would have went with the red collar and red flash on the sides. Going on holiday on Friday so won’t be one of the first but glad to get a home strip for the collection instead of boycotting and going with a change strip like I did last season.

I remember going to Firhill for the play-off against QP and being mind blown that they were selling a steak, black pudding and peppercorn sauce pie. Even that was only around the £3 mark if I remember rightly. Add on to that the burnt pie-gate & cremated sausage roll-gate when Falkirk & Alloa visited last season, it looks pretty clear that our concessions stand is very much underachieving compared to the competition. Hopefully one for the supporters liaison to get on top of.

A reminder that the last time we were in the Championship we were lining up with such football luminaries as Liam Coogans, Nathan Blockley, Alan Cook and Ryan Donnelly. Take a chill pill, man.

I got back into playing last week. Didn’t realise how much I missed it as its been a good few years since I played any number of games in a season. Put it off and put it off this summer as had been having a shit time work wise, but great to be back in and amongst it. Netted for the first time on years on Thursday also, big wake-up call to how far off it I am. Even been scoring some 1st XI games the last few weeks too. I did like getting the coloured pens out and keeping my scorebook nice and neat but the live scoring on the iPad is just so much easier. Anyway, see Liam Dawson hit 140 odds and took 6 wickets in the Championship in response to Stokes & Baz calling up Rehan Ahmed. Good way to do it.

Yes, but interesting that McCabe said “agreed to deals” but the paperwork hasn’t been done yet. Do remember Stuart millar coming out and besmirching Leighton McIntosh for jetting off to Wrexham after he’d agreed terms with us.

Buzzing for the Frizzell signing. Think it’s actually a bit of a coup as I’m sure he’ll have had his suitors at the same level. Hoping for Gabby showing off the new away kit soon. As for the third kit, I’ve never really been a big one for extra strips, albeit I did buy last years as a protest to the non-Diamond. With us having such an iconic kit the third strip at least allows us to change it up a bit, and as like this one be a bit different. Will be holding off until I see the other two before I buy.

This is a decent start. Not quite sure how he’ll fit in or if it’s a case of sharing the workload with Gallagher. Now to unveil Frizzell & McGill tonight, then we’ll be cooking with gas.
