Yes, for you.

At this point surely EK, Kennedy & Co have to be brought in to the sportswashing conversation? Are they backed by a murderous dictator?

Ayr United's Next Permanent Manager
Rhys McCabe Hype Train replied to Ludo*1's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Generally think what you’ve posted in this thread has been absolute toilet but this is actually a salient point. Rhys has shown promise with us, that’s all. He has got us out of League One after a decade of toil and in both seasons so far he’s had tough runs and had to go back to the drawing board to tinker with system and styles, and he’s the better for it. But his stock will only really hold water if he keeps us in the division this term. Then (and when he has the appropriate coaching qualifications) he will be a candidate to take a step up in his career. -
Airdrie v St Johnstone
Rhys McCabe Hype Train replied to tree house tam's topic in Domestic Cup Football
Looking forward to this one as a nice distraction from league business. St Johnstone will come down the road as favourites but as posters above have said we’ve given Prem teams a wee shock at our ground recently and our Cup form this season has been grand. Hopefully we hang on to Megwa for a week longer to give us the best chance of a Cupset… going to say it’ll be tight and end up 1-0 either way. -
You would hope, but seeing as Megwa is cup tied for the Scottish Cup anyway it gives them another weeks’ thinking time.

Just wonder how long the Megwa saga is going to drag on for. I realise he is a Hibs player but do feel that we are being messed around a bit here with the constant “will/wont they recall him” that’s being played out at the moment. Hopefully it won’t come to this but can foresee a situation where the days keeps ticking away while Hibs don’t make a decision, all the while leaving us less and less time in the registration window to sign a replacement.

The Ultimate Super Ayr Thread

Right you, that’s plenty. Rhys & Fordyce are from West Lothian and have families settled in the area, not sure how a move to Ayrshire would sit with them… and also not sure how much more attractive the Ayr job would be to Airdrie currently. Here he has the final word on recruitment and doesn’t have to answer to CEOs etc. -

Hope you’re not going for an audition for The Beechgrove Garden any time soon. -
There was an item in a Hibs fan media website, featuring an interview with their Head of Youth, saying that he likes sending players to Airdrie because we over play, and it forces their young players to make the right decisions under pressure to develop within Rhys’ system. Put bluntly, I can’t imagine we’d be getting the same loan players & plaudits if we were playing Gary Bollan-ball. EDIT: The article is at this link, albeit behind a paywall. Easy to get round if you know how.

Also see that Shaun Byrne is staying at Raith by virtue of Dundee missing the deadline to recall him. Do we think Megwa would have a similar clause/deadline or am I being too optimistic?

I get what you’re saying, but ultimately the strategy has got us to our highest league position in over a decade, so I’m not sure now is the time to question it. When we were signing dross like Jacob Esposito, Nico Sumsky, Taylor Morgan, Daniel Boateng, Joe Gorman and James Daly… that’s a time to question recruitment strategy.

We’re only going to find out about Megwa going back to Hibs when he’s not on the team line for Saturday, aren’t we?

Down with this sort of positive shit. We’ll stutter into 8th place and that absolutely is our objective this season. Stop trying to raise everyone’s expectations! Missing this one as I’m at work but hopefully we can continue to have Ian Murray’s number. He’s always due at least one “shit-the-bed” moment when on a good run, and Raith’s season so far is reminiscent to our 21-22 season where we went toe-to-toe with Cove all season… so I’ll predict a 2-1 Airdrie win with Frizzell battering one in from 30 yards in the 102nd minute, and Callum Fordyce to header everything that comes within an atmosphere of him for the full match.

Sack Lee Bullen
Rhys McCabe Hype Train replied to Richey Edwards's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
10 years of absolute dross for us. Watching Falkirk’s current malaise has also been galling/extremely funny. -
I know we’re looking for squad additions this month but also think any extensions could be crucial too, as sides around us will be looking to make moves as contracts run down. Would be looking to tie Hancock, Rae, Ballantyne & McMaster down to longer deals as soon as we can - certainly all players that could move on to other teams at this level and above. And what about McCabe & Fordyce? Am I right in thinking the two of them are only contracted until the end of the season or is there a bit of “gentlemen’s agreement” about their situation do we think? Arrivals… well we definitely need wide players and I think another striker wouldn’t hurt if we’re going about thing with two up front now. Maybe even a forward thinking midfielder if we can, but don’t think there’ll be a wealth of options for any of those positions.

This is a bit of a misnomer. Clubs will look at budgets as a whole over a season. Yes, you might free up a weekly wage to sign another player, however paying up a released player’s contract (either in full or to a mutual settlement) will still take a chunk out of “the budget”. So the weekly wage available will actually be lower and not like-for-like. Always found this thinking a bit disingenuous, also. The players are well within their rights to honour their contracts despite what the fans think. Surely the fans should be looking at who gave these players the deals?
