  1. A wee win for the Smokies here, please. They offered nothing against us except a fight over who took a penalty so perfect for a bounce back against Dunc’s Dobbers.
  2. Daft point here… how much better does black shorts look with the home kit!?
  3. I’m no saying we’re getting promoted… But we’ve beaten Thistle, Raith and Dundee Utd. We’ve beaten St Johnstone, and taken Ross County to extra time…
  4. Had a bit of worry when I saw the team like others, I guess, but McMaster & Lyall in the middle did well scooping up second balls and developing the play. The defence looked reasonably solid in a three and as much as it’s nice to know we can play that way I don’t think it should be our first choice. Feel for McGregor as it didn’t really come off for tonight, but showed some decent pace closing down. All in all a reasonably routine performance, and with a confident CalGal who scores a hat trick it really could have been 5 or 6. Was the free kick deflected or did it just go through the keeper?
  5. No idea how this one goes. The second half on Friday evening shows how we do have a bit of a shocker of a performance in us still, and I do think the team is suffering from the amount of games and injuries that we have. Seen it said elsewhere that even a draw for us tonight makes us safe from 10th place which we can’t forget, anything more than that I think is a bonus that gets us back in the reckoning for 4th spot.
  6. I think we’ll probably see Gallagher and McGill away this summer. Telfer might fancy his chances at a bigger club again after a good season. Rumours always persist about Frizzell being wanted elsewhere. I wouldn’t be clamouring to keep a hold of any of the loanees, other than Megwa if at all possible. I reckon the back five will probably stay reasonably intact: Fordyce won’t be going anywhere, Ballantyne and Rae I think will stick around after their injuries, Watson apparently has a deal until end of next season and I really do hope Hancock stays too as he has been crucial. If we get the right result tonight and over the next week or two we may very well be in a position of knowing where we stand and so be able to plan for the next season. I might even be in the camp that I wouldn’t want to be in promotion play-offs (as lovely & positive as it would be) so we could get our house in order early recruitment wise, rather than having to hold off for a few weeks after the season ends not knowing what league we’ll actually be in.
  7. Intrigued to know how this weekend’s stramash has affected the probabilities. Dundee Utd now overwhelming favourites for the league. Dunfermline maybe now just streaking it for 4th and Inverness consigned to 9th?
  8. With the match televised, is there any chance a retrospective ban could come for McMaster? It’s a red card for serious foul play whatever way you look at it, I’m afraid… don’t know if trial by TV is a thing in our league.
  9. How many took Ayr to win & BTTS at 5/1 on McBookie? Printing money, that. I, of course, took Airdrie. I’ll never learn.
  10. Don’t want to be too harsh on the team as ultimately its errors from Watson & Fordyce that have decided this match, and they’ve normally been very strong for us this season. Ayr stuck to their task well and knew how to nullify us as the clock ticked down. Telfer & Frizzell looked pretty tired in the middle and Lyall wasn’t really in the game and perhaps the match was too physical for him. Hopefully it’s not another 12/12 for the Honest Men next season.
  11. Thanks nice but was talking about Raith… we on the other hand should still be delighted with 8th place this season. Also heard that Raith have a big “unrealistic” bonus due to each player if they go up. Maybe that’s the reason Skybet were offering 4/1 on them to win tomorrow.
  12. Not making this unfortunately as I finish work a bit too late to make it down. Hoping we can end the Ayr hoodoo and solidify our playoff aspirations. Taking the points off them would do us more good also and probably make us safe from the relegation playoff spot. Never known a Championship like this year where 42 points is seen as the benchmark to be clear of that 9th place (and it might be more). Just shows how mad this league is, and to be honest with Falkirk coming up and Arbroath heading back down, it’s going to be more difficult for us next time round I reckon.
  13. I know it’s been said before but will Raith really be wanting to go up? Is the difference in prize money really worth the increased costs in playing budget, policing, ground enhancements…. Then £190k on VAR and eventually replacing their pitch when they vote to outlaw plastic?
  14. Goodwin is an imposter of a manager, and Ian Murray has a habit of bottling the big moments (see Airdrie playoff defeats in 2021 & 2022). it’s not so much either are trying to throw it, it’s more there’s not enough ability there to actively go out and win it.
  15. Didn’t make the last 20 minutes any more enjoyable, mind you. Haven’t been posting much the last few weeks as I don’t want to say anything that will jinx the good run. Must say, I had a really uneasy feeling in the lead up to the game particularly with the numbers behind TNS - totally worsened after twelve minutes. Needn’t have worried though. Thought McStravick and Toddy were working really well together but all it lacked was a final touch from either. So glad that Liam provided that bit of Magic, and what a ball from Frizzell. I thought TNS’ midfield maybe ran over the top of our lightweights in the middle as the game wore on. Frizz & Telfer’s kept fighting though and I actually thought McMaster was really good too. He was able to get a foot on the ball and just calm it down a bit, a really mature performance from him in the second half. As I say the last 20 minutes felt like the Alamo at times, but apart from Declan McManus ruffling the side netting I can’t remember them really threatening. Anyway, certainly a good day out, supplemented by the new founding of the Al-Hilal Airdrie Supporters Club. What a mental storyline to add to this season.
  16. Been thinking that since mid-December as unlikely as it is Inverness could put a few wins together and we’re pulled right back in. I’m sure 39 points would’ve seen us safe in 8 of the 10 previous seasons as well?
  17. Go on about it like a broken record but first priority has to be signing Rhys & Dycey to longer deals, then look at players. Hancock, Telfer and Frizzell would probably be the three I’d look to keep on as a must. Supplemented by McMaster, Watson, Rae, Ballantyne & McStravick, but as always who knows how long everyone is actually contracted for?
  18. Thought it took Airdrie 20 mins to get to grips with Arbroath trying to boot the full team into the stands and once Reilly went off Arbroath offered nothing. PS Ricky Little is finished at this level and should’ve been sent off twice.
  19. Score on Ballyburn for next years Champion Hurdle.
  20. Today a very difficult day, only clear picks are the short priced favourites, otherwise it’s a lottery. Stuck an EW Lucky 15 on (1330) Ballyburn, (1410) American Mike, (1450) Shanbally Kid and (1650) Sa Fureur
  21. Was Johnson not stripped for QOTS at the start of the season? Otherwise he’ll have exceeded the two club rule. Assuming Josh has concussion, the guideline tends to be 10 days of non-contact, so he might be fine for the final.
