Got a bottle of this after doing a Glen Scotia/Loch Lomond tasting which I used to turn my nose up to a bit. A very decent dram for the sub 80 quid market

Victoriana has fairly gone up in price, its really good stuff but I struggle to pay £75 for something that was £20 cheaper 18months ago.

The GS Double Cask is cracking whisky, the Rum cask edition was really bang average though.

A lot of the best stuff is unaffordable now so its very much still a hit or miss distillery. A try before you buy.

Just pulling a recent price list for my local store, these are for a 750ml:

    Glenfiddich 12 Year Single $46.97

Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay Single $78.94

Aborlour 16 Year Double Cask Single $115.65

Dalmore 18 Year Highland Single $347.88

Now, compare that to the blends and Bourbons…Jameson Irish is $26.28, Jack Daniel’s is $23.13 and a local distiller TX (wink) Blended Whiskey is $31.97. There was a 25% tariff on Scotch between 2019 and 2021, but that’s gone now, so all that’s left are the Local, State and Federal taxes. Right now, that’s $2.14 for a 750ml, 80 proof bottle Federal Liqour tax, plus $0.48 Texas State Liquor tax ($2.40 per US gallon), 6.25% State Sales tax and 2% Local Sales tax. The sales taxes aren’t in those totals above, so the “cheap” Glendiddich above runs you $50.85 out the door, while the Dalmore sets you back $376.58.

Different states have different tax regimes, with two (Wyoming and New Hampshire) having no taxes (sell all liquor through “official” stores), and the others starting as low as $2 (Missouri) per US gallon (3.8l) to as high as $35.31 per US gallon (Washington State). The “fun” bit about those varying tax rates is how much Drink Driving it generates in border areas between certain states.

Interesting to read the complexities in the taxes etc.

If only it were as simple as, say, buying a machine gun.

I think we don't realise quite how liberal we are with Booze laws etc.

Three 3 x 375ml boxes available for easy purchase locally:

    1) Glen Fohdry; a French oak, an American oak and 12 year.

    2) Shieldaig; a Finest Old, a 12 year and a Sherry cask.

    3) Grangeston; a Bourbon cask, a Rum cask and a Sherry cask.

Any thoughts on these as regards a little selection of reasonable quality, or are all just typical exported boxed set shite?

Never heard of those brands, assume they're made for export?

Rumour that HiTech GP application to enter F1 from 2024 could be scuppered due to...... if found to be true that Dmitry Mazepin is secretly funding the team through extremely wealthy Kazakh business magnete Vladimir Kim who recently bought 25% into the team. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Kim

Looks like Mazepin Sr is looking for a way to buy his son back into F1 one way or another.

I'd fully support Mazepin in F1.

Mainly because it would be hilarious.

the fact they are utterly incapable of racing in any sort of wet conditions renders the series a laughing stock. Oh, and the 3/5 engine rule leading to almost 100% perfect in-race reliability is, by far, the one thing that has done the most to promote 'boring' racing.

The Wet racing fear has grown arms and legs in recent years. Obviously for safety but its gone too far imo.

I can't recall too many engines blowing in recent years. Engineers probably have better data and call it before an engine eats itself. Always used to enjoy a cloud of smoke and the oil slick that followed.

Getting rid of DRS completely would be a first step. It does nothing on piss tracks like Monaco and Hungary, and all it does on places where it is actually possible to pass is turn standard overtakes into 'breeze past you half way down the straight' laughers, and create hilarious DRS trains of equally paced cars where everyone just sits behind each other, because getting too close ruins your tyres, and trying an overtake that fails will punt you out of the DRS range, so it's much easier to just sit there .750 behind going round and round poaching the tow off of each other. Close up at the end of the straight, back off in the acceleration zone, rinse and repeat.

The stated aim was to get regulation stability, close the field up, and then bin the tinpot DRS system. There's practically f**k all between the field in relative terms in Quali trim, and we're a season and a half into the same regs, so it should have been dumped well before now.

You're bang on. DRS is almost identical to the 'temporary' Scotrail Booze Ban

Has to be the most boring season ever, it's been an absolute procession to the driver's championship for Max.

I've tuned in religiously this season, bar Silverstone.

I think this race, followed by the Summer Break and the football season might tune me out a little.

Its not RB's fault they're brilliant, but Perez not pushing Verstappen at all has taken away any interest at the front.

Bar a collision, I can see them winning every race remaining.

Ferrari just can't do the basic calls right.  Sainz's car is knackered, out of the points, highly unlikely to get back into the points.....save the engine/gearbox.

Unless they want to keep tyre data for Leclerc, that's being very generous though.

    "Harsh" Fucking biased c***s.

I dont think its harsh, then again I'm not English and employed to cheerlead any British driver by any means necessary.

  10. The tabloid style coverage by sky is really poor.

Over analysing the Mercs tripping over each other in Sprint Qualy is tiresome. For me very clearly a series of unlucky events with a lock up to top it off.

Drawing George Russell comparisons to Hungary and Spain by Schiff is just really lazy reporting.

  11. I know there's the fatalities hanging over this event, but they're not shy to postpone sessions now.

Doing their absolute best to disengage any remaining fans they'd picked up in the last few years.

  12. Looking forward to Spa this weekend.

I actually quite like the Sprint format, mainly because I have an early finish tomorrow and the weather is due to be absolutely shite both here and there.

  13. I suppose its the definition of rubbish.

With the resources (ignore cost cap years) and infrastructure they have I'd expect them to be on the podium multiple times a year. They're miles off that.
