  1. Everyone keeps dismissing Israel, but they represent a genuine challenge for 2nd place having demolished Austria, Moldova and the Faroes.

The Danish coach and Steve Clark have said the same things praising them as a team and I remember the Czech coach saying Israel were the toughest team they played in last year's nation's league.

Leigh Griffiths. I wish I was kidding.

No chance, probably just a fluke that he was at the Oriam at the same time.

That's what I thought too. We definitely had a striker at the Oriam last week but I'm not sure why that didn't materialise (maybe another player pulled through an injury or it was just a coincidence). I wouldn't be surprised if Clarke had failed to get another full-back and forward too.

Stop behaving like quite such a tool.

I thought Austria would win the other night and it turns out, Israel did, handsomely.

However, it's really not the terrible embarrassment for me that you seem to think.  I've been wrong in predicting scores in matches before - Hell, it might even happen again.

It's telling that you've seized on this part after Scotland delivered yet another poor performance, despite your absurdly positive outlook.

haha, still raging. 😃 Take it Eez-eh mate, chill out. 😉

There’s an easy way to avoid playing O’Donnell or Patterson.

    Gordon

    Tierney - Hanley - Cooper - Robertson

    Gilmour - McGregor

    Fraser - McGinn - Turnbull

    Adams

4-5-1? mate you need to give it up, your no cut out for management with a team like that. Tierney at right back? Turnbull on the left wing? embarrassing. 😅

But for you, it's a pleasure to be anywhere.

If you were in Kabul, you'd thank your lucky stars.

Aww you're still a bit butthurt because you were made to eat your words regarding the standard of the Israeli national team. Who else wants shown up? Eez - eh!, Eez - eh! it was just so, so Eez - eh. 🤭

A lot can appear different in person versus TV

So true. I wonder if that contributes to fans and the manager having a different perception of the game.

I also thought big Jack Hendry was stellar.

Moldova are among the diddiest of diddy teams. We occasionally get held to a draw against rubbish teams like Macedonia or Lithuania but Moldova are on a different level.

In Moldova. If you’d read my post properly you would have noted the words “at home”.

Aside from Wales who I’ve already pointed out, when did we last fail to beat a bottom seed team at home?

I didn't see that mate, i suppose it was a few pages back? Now be a good wee girl and find it for me would you otherwise I'll just presume you're making it up.  😉

We’re still In with a reasonable chance of finishing runners up.

The must-win, must-not-lose, potential results chat has been doing the rounds on Pie & Bovril as long as I’ve been a member (2005) and the only constant has been Scotland failing to qualify. It would be good to make a decent fist of qualification again.

Fair play, I agree - we have a good fighting chance of getting 2nd, I'd say that's good and I just can't understand where the media and certain fans are coming from that are saying we must beat Austria and that qualifying is a disaster and that Clarke has to go etc. 🤷‍♂️

Yip Steven Thompson scored. There was an article about it in the programme basically saying him and Berti were bombed out after that game

Yep, anyway what I'm trying to say is we don't just have a right to win games like this, nevermind racking up a cricket scoreline. If an expectation of that isn't arrogance then I don't know what is.

Feel free to explain if you get some time away from turning up to football games an hour early.

We were held to a draw by Moldova in 2004, isn't that right?

This campaign is already looking a bit dodgy. Denmark are running away with it and second place is a scramble between us, Austria and Israel. Lose here and it gets a bit more ropey. That Israel result last night mixes things up a bit, but we need to win a few more games if we want to be in with a chance.

Clarke needs his team to put on a big performance soon to put the doubters back in their box.

We are in with a chance at the halfway stage. Instead of saying we need this and need that lets look at the potential cases and if qualification is still achievable, so Austria beat Scotland and Israel beat Denmark.

    • Israel 13
    • Austria 10
    • Scotland 8

Now, while it would be possible for us to still qualify we'd really be relying on other results.

Austria and Scotland draw, Denmark and Israel draw

    • Israel 11
    • Scotland 9
    • Austria 8

Now this would leave qualification in our hands with a home game to play against Israel.

Scotland beat Austria and Denmark beat Israel

    • Scotland 11
    • Israel 10
    • Austria 7

The optimal set of results that puts Scotland in the strongest position.

So if we beat Austria we can draw against Israel or Denmark or one of the diddies, but if we draw in Vienna we have to beat Israel. Roughly how I read it.

Robertson, Gilmour and Christie, even Tierney should all have scored yesterday.  If two of them had would the ‘performance’ have been better?

Just the result, the performance was not perfect, but acceptable in my view and the final outcome doesn't change my view on the performance.

  14. Got into the stadium when the gates opened and it was an absolute breeze and pleasure to be in Hampden. Fair phone signal, Got the team news and just chatted with other fans and watched the warm up until kick off and enjoyed seeing the stadium fill up - was great, I'd definitely recommend going earlier for the Israel game. I met a steward on the way to the game who was supposed to have started at 3pm but was running 3 hours late for some reason.

We're doing fine, take it easy and relax Ken.

It's this kind of thinking that's leaving you in a wee muddle mate.

West. Joined the queue at 7:30, wasn't in the ground until about 8:05. It did start moving much more quickly after the first 15 minutes so not sure if there'd been a group at the front holding things up but more than half an hour in a queue, bloody hell.

The SFA did encourage people to get there early, while technically 7:30 is early you could have been earlier maybe especially if you knew the crowd would be larger than previously and getting through the turnstiles was done differently to in the past and so on with the QR codes.

Oh am not just referring to last night's abject display. Since Serbia we've been dire and I still don't forgive him for the Euros calamity. Gubbed twice? At Hampden? With that squad? Pathetic. Just pathetic and the same attitude was well in evidence last night.

You sound pretty bitter and frustrated with the whole thing, maybe if you didn't set such lofty expectations that would solve it? or maybe you need a break from following the national team?

  19. 6 minutes ago, Ken Deans said:

For lofty ideas read putting out a team set up correctly with a modicum of in game management

What did you think was wrong with the team set up and in game management? I thought it was reasonable. It's nothing to do with the team set up and in-game management - you just think we have a right to pump Moldova 4 or 5 nil, but we don't really do we?
