The club can confirm that Sam Bird has returned to Stockport County FCfollowing the end of his loan spell on the 2nd January 2024. Whilst we have tried to extend the loan for a further period, the player and his agent are considering other options at this stage.

We would like to thank Sam for his total commitment to the club in his time here and he will always be welcomed back should the opportunity arise. We know that he has developed as a player during his time with us and has been pivotal under the current turnaround in form. We would like to wish Sam success with his footballing career and will always keep an eye on his progress.

I just thought that the “didn't feel comfortable" line maybe came from him realising he didn’t feel like he wanted to represent Scotland.

I can imagine that you could think that playing international football for a team other than where you are born might seem a good idea when you think about it rationally, but then actually pulling on the strip and making that a reality is another thing.

If I were a player I couldn’t imagine at all playing for an international side other than Scotland. If it came to it though, who knows if I’d be the same in reality?

He's played with us through the age groups though, so it's not like pulling on our strip/ hearing our anthem etc was a new thing

  3. Just watching Brighton 1 up against Ajax at half time.  I'm sure it's been mentioned before but I noticed that not a single pass from any player goes around the midfield without Billy Gilmour pointing where an option is to his teammate.  He's the only one doing this and seems to be orchestrating the entire movement of Brighton.  Anyone who watches Brighton more than I do... is this typical?  When he's not in the side, does another player perform the same function, or is this Billy's own abilities that makes him do this?

  4. I wasn't at the game, but from my very questionable space bar pause, it doesn't look like Robert Thompson was offside for what would have been the opener.

From our point of view, I'm really pleased with how well players who I thought would be fringe players are performing.  I wouldn't consider any player to be a fringe player now.

  5. I'm not particularly bothered about a player born and brought up in England taking any opportunity to play for England.  Seems fair enough for me.

Looking at it from a wider perspective, if players like Hayden Hackney show that you can join the Scotland U21 setup and the door will still be open for future England call ups then it might continue to encourage more dual nationality players who have established themselves at club level to give Scotland a try at some point.  And you never know, a few might get hooked to playing for Scotland as a result.

Man United once paid a million quid for Sean McGinty, so I think we can safely assume that that sort of money for guys that age doesn’t actually mean much in the grand scheme of things.

McGinty was 16 though.  But I take your point.  That said, I think it's interesting and the expensive transfer of British children is something we may see more and more as a result of Brexit.  If it does I can see an overhaul of the regulations surrounding the ownership of under-16s as a reaction.

But as we are in this subforum, what I really mean to say is... Clarke should get him in the next squad 😉

  7. Living away from Stirling, I really appreciate the highlights @TheWestStand.  I would actually agree that the long intro isn't needed, so if that saves you a bit of time I'd be all for chopping it... but maybe others watch it a different way from how I do.

The first thing I do is skip forward to where I see the team sheets and go from there.

And it''s by no means the most important thing, but I always feel like it's the graphics that let us down.  Would be lovely if a graphics designing supporter would volunteer to make some for the team sheets and top left corner score, as well as some swishy replay graphics.  That's not me though sadly!

Spurs stadium cost £850m in 2019... this proposal is 10% larger with more complex stands (2 kops + core of South refashioned) retractable roof and top tier curtain... allow for inflation could be north of £1bn IMO.

Spurs stadium has a retractable pitch, which can't have been cheap.

I spoke to DY and Kyle Banner after the match and they essentially admitted that the mood in the camp for most of the second half was to make sure they didn’t lose the game. It tallied up with the approach on subs etc in the second half I would say.

The fact the game was a bit of a stinker probably didn’t help the atmosphere on either side - there was little to really get excited about from effectively the opening minutes of the game and the whole thing felt like an anticlimax.

It wouldn’t  surprised me if the players were told not to creat any flashpoints during the game that might fire up Dumbarton for this game and the rest. Better to let the game just pass by in the dull way it did in order to wrap up the title.

Its been fine this season; can't recall any issues. It looks like it had a fit and the video actually ended (maybe they're trying to reupload?). Alternatively, they may not even know its down, which is worrying!

I'm presuming Dumbarton won't put out a tweet to say they're aware of the issue, to apologise, and to say they are working hard to fix it?🫥
