Next 2 games are massive for us. We absolutely need a couple of players in but also minimum 4 points from them. If we’re still sitting on 1 point come September folks patience is going to be in short supply even at this early stage of proceedings.

It was put to me last night that the team could easily carry a Lamie, a Crawford, a Maguire, a Donnelly, a Mugabi, a Grimshaw but not have most of them starting every week. It’s really no surprise we look how we look considering that’s the case. I have a horrible feeling we won’t see the required signings and we’re going to go with what we have.

My backs really up after that today. Losing 1-0 away from home to team we’ve won the last 9 out of 10 against might not seem like such a big deal but our stop/start, er, start to the season and looking a mile off the pace today is setting alarm bells off everywhere. Going with a hugely under strength team and bedding in long term absentees whilst the real fitba has already started is massively risky and effectively potentially just writing off the start of the season is not something I can get on board with. 4 points from the next 2 games and at least a couple of additions are needed. We won’t win (m)any games with Lamie, Lawless and McGuire starting every week. Big question mark over Alexander even at this early stage for me m afraid.

I got slaughtered for saying I’d prefer Tait over him any day and I stand by it. I honestly don’t see the appeal of O’Donnell. Got to hope we have some bodies coming in for the next game as what we have at the moment just isn’t going to do.

Ha ha! I mean, it definitely added to the atmosphere letting Hibs fans in last weekend, but if we’re the only club doing it whilst everyone else hides behind the “Covid theatre” then there’s no point being the good guys.

Hopefully we get the tickets we need. Let’s be honest, outside Rangers, Celtic, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen, everyone else does not have 5,000 home fans regularly. Denying away fans entry at this point is purely killing the atmosphere and trying to create an advantage for the home team. For any away tickets we are denied this season, I hope we return the favour when that team visits Fir Park.

I hear what you’re saying, but I reckon there will be more than just a few in the public sale. Pretty much every Motherwell fan who wants one will get one I think.

Looking at that starting 11 would make you greet! Among my favourite ever Motherwell teams, along with the ‘93-‘94 one and McGhee’s first season in ‘07-‘08.

Saturday was the first time I’d ever seen O’Donnell in the flesh for Motherwell and even allowing for Euros fatigue and playing his second 90 minutes in the space of a few days, I’d still rather we had Richard Tait in the there.

Absolutely. Anytime we’ve had a decent/excellent season we’ve always got off to a good start. Anytime we’ve had a bad start we end up having a bad or at least disappointing start. At least that’s my perception. We’re surely not waiting till we’re 4 games in (and on zero points!) to see who is surplus to requirements/still free elsewhere and then we weigh up our options?! I mean, surely our targets have been identified/approached/in discussions with, as if they’re not, you’ve really got to wonder what the hell is going on.

What are the chances of us getting these 4/5 first team quality additions in for the Hibs game? I’d say zero. Which means we’re looking at going with what we have and even if everyone is fully fit, it’s still not going to be good enough. Questions will need to be asked and better still, actually answered, as to why these glaring holes in the team remain, especially having had so long to identify and pursue our preferred options. From where you I’m sitting this is borderline negligent and for all the club do so much right, this has got to be the most important aspect. For the record, as it stands, I’d say our best centre half pairing is Mugabi and O’Hara. I’ll just name names as everyone else has, but Lamie and Crawford can be nowhere near the starting 11 as that will see us relegated. I’d play myself before either of them. The fans being allowed back in means there is going to be no hiding place for the under performers like there was last season.

I’ve lurked about this forum for a while but I’m so concerned for our plight that I’ve had to create an account in hope that someone can tell me everything is going to be alright and we aren’t destined for relegation before the league season has even begun! The only thing stopping me from from having a full blown “heads gone” is the fact that we are clearly still at least 4/5 first team signings away from where we should be. That said, the league season starts in just over a week and if we go with what we have at the moment we are going to get absolutely destroyed. The most worrying thing there is we have known what was needed and who needed to be replaced for several months and none of it has yet been addressed. Players who are clearly not of the required standard and/or absolute bombscares are also still heavily involved every week. Like someone else said above, I absolutely cannot go another full season of us being shite, hating every single player, and having nothing about us. It is the absolute pits. Yet incredibly that is the scenario we are hurtling towards as we are inexplicably about to start this season even weaker than the previous one! Whisper it, I’m starting to think Alexander might be part of the problem….
