Least exciting signing of the 4 to me. A quick look says he's hardly prolific. Not coming in to be first choice on the team sheet, You'd hope.

Decent enough age and has a relationship with Robinson though so at least there's that. Has also  already shown Robinson that he'll cover RW if needed.

Watch him bang in 20+ goals including a hattrick against Celtic in the Scottish Cup final to make me look like a mug.

  2. I'd be surprised if Davis joined us. As much as he's getting on a bit, I doubt we'd be able to afford him. Aside from his history with Robinson, I can't see why he'd be interested.

He's played in Europe 6 times? this season and despite injuries has had a decent number of appearances. surely one of the other top 5 teams going into Europe would give him a punt if rangers don't keep him on.

I'd be pleased to be wrong on this.

In short, Main's good performance on Saturday rather than raising my, already low, opinion of him, it has actually lowered it knowing he could have, at any time, put in that level of effort, but simply chose not to.

That's a huge stretch to claim his poor performances this season were because he chose not to play as well as he could.

There's loads of factors to take into account.  Morale and self belief, coaching styles,  injuries, the pressure and reaction from fans,  the performances of the players around him too. Maybe he's even been told straight, your place at St mirren is on the line.

I'm not saying he's a changed man and will be banging in goals every week, but clearly the return of the guy who saw him have his best spell in his career has helped him conquer some of those demons. For a couple games at least.

Whether that's enough to justify him staying at the club is entirely up for debate. Itd be taking a risk on someone who has proven they can struggle here.

If there's players out there that are within reach of our club who are better,  or could be better but are also risks, then I'd chose them over Main.

  4. You can moan about Robinson mentioning it as an excuse, but we've got f**k all players at the squad to give options right now, and that's on goody and the board.

Hard to be a tactical mastermind if you can only switch 2 or 3 things at most, and it's mostly like for like.

Combine our poor form with our easy to predict squad and formations, it's no wonder teams are tearing us apart at times.

  5. It's really too late for anyone external to come in and make a mark on this squad in the last 4 games of the season.

Yesterday was clearly an attempt to stop shipping a crazy amount of goals.

We're 5pts ahead of St. Johnstone. If we Win next week i don't care how shit we are, I don't see them getting 8pts in 3 games.

We even have a game against dundee to come too, who we've actually beaten since Robinson came in.

The last few months have been dreadful, god awful even, but it's not over yet.

If there's one phrase that's really getting irritating it's this 'throwing under a bus' thing.

Goodwin even used it this week.

It paints a picture of people in football as these sensitive primadonnas that can't accept the cold hard reality that others need to in everyday life.

Does Goodwin really have to do anything other than pretend that lamentable performance was anything other than completely unacceptable for fear of upsetting the poor wee souls ahead of the last few matches?  He has to take a good look at himself today - tactics, motivation, gameplan, substitutions - all questionable for a 'must win' home game against a side on the fraction of our budget.

Playing devils advocate here. Looking at the state of Aberdeen before Goodwin came in, the size of the budget doesn't matter as it was clearly misspent.

If someone chooses to spend £500k on a skoda, doesn't mean it has a god given right to beat a porche 911 in a race.

  7. When is Alnwick back? I think we've had the answer to "should Lyness have a shot at #1" over the past few games.

As disappointing as the "head turned" image Alnwick's presented of late is, he has clearly helped cover up the ineptitude of some of our defence over the season.

It's also clear that Robinson doesn't have a clue how to get this current team to do what he needs. There is gonna be a busy and interesting summer transfer window ahead. Hopefully we start strong next season.

  8. I can't think of many jobs where you get told, "oh, it doesn't matter just how badly you do on your first 3-4 months" we'll judge you after.

His personal behavior and decision making shouldnt magically change in quality just because he gets a few players of his own in. His ability to work with what he has, and get a tune out of this team should reflect his talent as a manager.

Our team wasn't going to be a top 4 side, and the first half of the season was rough with so many near wins. We did however reach a turning point when we changed formation. We were also in with a shout of reaching top 6.

Robinson and the players have no one to blame for that but themselves. With the league being so tight, it completely falls on our abysmal form that we lost that chance. No other teams have gone on a mad run of wins to put us out of sight.

Calling for his head when we've spent good money on him right now is silly, and I can't see many better alternatives on paper that are available right now. I do think people have the right to be directing their frustrations at the guy, especially with the absolute drivel that comes out his mouth every interview.

  9. I'm not shouting for Robinson to be out, but given where we were when he came in, and how he's started, I think we have every right to be disappointed.

There's a big leap between that and asking for the guy to be punted.

You don't have to be a pro manager to know that the 2nd half against United was a disaster. Robinson absolutely had his part to play in that happening, so did the players.

On to more positive matters, I'm surprised at the signing of O'Hara, I can think of worse players to be getting on a free. Seems his relationship with Robinson is good so hopefully it works out in our favour.

  10. I find it interesting that part of the reason that we went on a good run was Kiltie coming into the team and playing like he had a point to prove. He seems to have lost that spark a wee bit since.

Henderson has impressed since we stopped trying to play him as wingback early in the season. Would be good to see him get to the point he can hold down first choice RM.

I think Goodwins biggest problem when he was with the club was his inability to sign, or develop, decent strikers. Anyone know if Robinson has a good track record in this area?

Summer transfers will be even more interesting to me this year - seeing what A new manager can do in the summer. Last time we changed manager in the summer we got that stubbs debacle. Can't be worse than that.....surely?

  11. 4pts since Robinson took over is disappointing. At least when goody was playing 5-3-2 we managed to draw more than we've lost. (Hindsight is a wonderful thing).

Probably just feeling sorry for myself, but I really wonder if Robinson wrote off this season before he took the job - maybe he saw it as a project he'd really sink his teeth in once he got to the summer transfer and could make it his own.

We'll probably be safe from relegation, but top 6 is looking extremely unlikely given our form.

Next season better start well or it won't be long before fans want Robinson gone.

  12. We deserved nothing from the game after that 2nd half performance. Baffling subs once again from Robinson. Subs from Dundee Utd fixed their first half problems and he had no response.

Feel sorry for Henderson. Scores a top goal in the first half, and bosses the right midfield. A great individual performance from the young lad.

Haven't seen Alnwicks red yet but I honestly don't think it was a turning point - we offered nothing.

  13. Alnwick was always going to go this summer. He's had a brilliant time with us and fully deserves his chance at a better contract or higher level elsewhere.

He'd be a top choice for strengthening that weak Aberdeen side that Goodwin has inherited, but I think there'll be some competition for him and it'll drag out like most of these transfers seem to.
