I thought I'd seen that but only got a glimpse and wasn't 100%.

On the face of it he's been a fucking nightmare to play against. However  (and i could be wrong here) he doesn't strike me as someone who's going to give you 100% effort every day of the week which is the one thing Murray requires above all else.

You'd imagine that conversation would be had prior to signing and if he doesn't live up to it, he doesn't play.

An attacking 3 of Vaughan, Easton and Chalmers has the potential to be something fun to watch, add Stanton into that too and its a front 4 you'd be very happy to see on your team sheet.

How was the awards night last night? Improved on previous years?

It was a good night. The awards were all deserved. Callum Hannah I think was completely speechless at his award, comes across as a really humble lad. The speaker, John Gaghan was really good, toned down from some awards/events i've seen him at previously.

  3. Really good evening of football. Turner, McGill and Matthews perhaps stand outs over the 90. Two well taken goals from Smith, two good pens from Vaughan. As Smith said in hospitality after the game, "when Vaughan is on the pitch, he's the penalty taker, I'm not going to argue that, especially the first one which made it 3-0". A good attitude.

Hope Corr is OK, looked decent until his injury.

Correct on the contract length, not absolutely sold on ready for the English Championship. 9 goals in 44 games at English League One level is decent, but not sure he’s ready for the step up. The Scottish Premiership is generally considered a slight step up from where he is right now. If Northampton Town is willing, I suspect he’ll be back there again for the final year on this contract, but St. Mirren isn’t playing a bad hand here, as Fulham might decide a change of venue is necessary to evaluate Kieron more completely.

Not sure I fully agree Tx. Bowie has been excellent at Northampton overall. 15 goal contributions in 44 games for a young player is pretty good at that/any level, Especially one who isn't playing as the central striker that often. He had fair competition from some excellent players at that level. I think regardless where he goes, he'll be an asset to the side. Maybe if we get promoted this year...

  5. I've got hospitality for this game, shame its not the end of season party we'd hoped for, but i'd like to see us using a settled side and build some confidence and form before the play offs. We have 10 days after the game to prep for the winners of Partick and Airdrie so everyone will ideally be rested after this game.

Problem is, right now I have little confidence in us producing a coherent attacking display and controlling a game. Our defence have stepped up in the last while, with some good performances, but they've had to because further up the park we've really struggled to make things happen as much and as clinically as we did earlier in the season.

One thing you can guarantee on a match thread involving Morton is a bunch of Morton fans getting annoyed and red-dotting everyone who says they are a dirty team, despite them having more than 50% more yellow cards than the team with the second most yellows in the league (incidentally Raith).
More than a sixth of all the yellow cards in the championship this season have been shown to Morton players.

But they’re not a dirty team.

To have only one red card is impressive though, given the number of yellows.

Loads of players out of contract:

    1. David Wotherspoon
    2. Louis Moult (apparently triggered an extension but nothing has been confirmed)
    3. Craig Sibbald (again triggered an extension but also again, nothing official yet)
    4. Kevin Holt
    5. Scott McMann
    6. Jack Walton (loan ends, also out of contract with Luton Town)
    7. Archie Meekison
    8. Ross Graham
    9. Declan Glass
    10. Sam McClelland (loan ends, loads of United fans want him in but I doubt St. Johnstone will let him go at an affordable price)
    11. Chris Mochrie
    12. Matthew Anim Cudjoe
    13. Sadat Anaku
    14. Alex Greive (loan ends, and may I never see him again. Shit Simon Murray)
    15. Jordan Tillson (loan ends, for some reason isn't listed at all on transfermarkt. not as bad as some United fans think he is but still not that good.)

So for next season we've got:

    1. Declan Gallagher
    2. Tony Watt
    3. Ross Docherty
    4. Liam Grimshaw
    5. Glenn Middleton
    6. Jack Newman
    7. Kai Fotheringham

If I've missed anyone it's because transfermarkt have missed them. A load of decisions to make for Goodwin in the next few months.

Who would you keep that's out of contract?

Did I miss corr playing a blinder on Friday? Keep seing people saying he was incredible, excellent and so on. I thought he played well enough and progressed as the game went on as he settled in to it but I'm still not seing the hype around him. Potential, yes. Currently though he's behind Scott Brown at cb quite rightly imo. I'm not bashing the guy but the over hyping of him having a decent enough game is baffling.

Has anyone actually said he was excellent? I don't recall seeing anything on here at least. He grew into the game, which is all you can expect for a player who's played little more than bounce games or testimonials for the past few months. I'd hope he stays on, gets some game time and becomes a regular but he needs experience and some continual coaching on some areas.

We have totally lost our way-especially going forward. Nothing in the wide areas apart from Eastons trickery now and again. Our fullbacks are like a shopping trolley that gets to that point at a supermarket where the wheels don’t work when they get to the halfway line. Our midfield seem to go AWOL at times. Stanton not the same player since coming back.

Our fullbacks this season have never been ones to get forward often, mostly because we had 1 midfielder and they were kept back to cover. That said, we do miss the crossing ability from Millen, that has to be addressed in the summer.

Our midfield has been non-existant most of the season, we've seen numerous times that teams will just get so much space in the middle of the park as Byrne/Brown are isolated and its a free run on the defence, you'd hope that Murray, as a self-confessed Arsenal fan would take a few pages from Artetas book and make midfield the main focus of our gameplan.

Stanton is playing a bit deeper now, as a result of our change since January, it shows in his final third contributions.

Saying that we somehow got the 3 points last night mainly down to Kev.I took a bit o stick earlier on in the season when I said he would become our best keeper in recent years.

Was outstanding last night. I know a few have been on his back costing us goals on occasions, but his points gained vs lost stats are only swinging one way and thats part of why we're where we are.

That said, he was still considerably better than Zak Rudden, who is absolutely infuriating. I thought his first few games for us was pretty encouraging, but I can't remember the last time he done a single thing right for us.

You basically surrender having any possession in the final third when he comes on, as he positions himself behind the centre half, so never wins any clearances, and even when a pass does find him, his first touch is astonishingly bad. He's the worst possible player to bring on when you're holding on to a lead.

Fair summary of Rudden. He's just chaos and little else. Every touch is a lottery, probably a worse first touch than Callum Smith. The good thing is, Smith has the ability to make up for that deficiency.

Wish somebody had asked about a reserve side being formed.  My opinion is that it is a crucial aspect for a club going forward towards the Prem.  Gets injured players match fit and keeps the sqad players fit at the same time.  Can also bleed through some decent young players again and maybe get the next Crawford, Cameron and Dairs coming through.
I know academy was mentioned but thats not the same thing.

Thats a good point, surprised it wasn't mentioned either.

I take it the cladding of the main stand is a safety thing as I really see no point in spending money to gave it done for no benefit. Ah forgot a big advertising screen. For me it's a waste of money.

As talked about last summer with the concept images etc its part of revitalising the club and what is a very worn down old stadium/stand. Modernising the outside (as well as making big changes internally too) will be good for the club. The addition of an LED board will be massive for advertising as well overall, much less costly overall than made to measure PVC adverts that need to be taken down/replaced.

A shame about the off street cafe, I can understand the concern from the council about parking given the location of the stadium on that corner. Had it been at the North Stand, it might have been OK'd as there is a car park there.

Putting a sports bar in where the current offices are is also a good idea, generating income on match days and potentially non-match days as well. The club needs to look at additional revenue streams to remain competitive.

  12. An incredibly tough watch today, for various reasons. The conditions again played a part and Partick were stubborn and defended well when they had to. Great save from Mitchell to deny Rudden in what was probably our only real clear chance of the game. For all of our good work in getting forward we just don't create a lot of chances for our forwards right now.

However the biggest factor in it being a tough afternoon was both teams absolute inability to control a football at times. Many occasions in the first half someone controlled the ball out of touch. Rudden, Dick, Stanton and Mullin all guilty of it for us and Whoever was on the Partick right just watched as the ball skipped infront of him without even attempting to stop it. One of those days for them I think.

Dabrowski looks so scared of the ball into his feet, you can see when its passed back to him that he's really unsure of what to do, very uncomfortable for him. I hope over the summer he, McNeil and Thomson spend a good bit of time practicing this to get more at ease with it. Its part of the game for modern goalkeepers. Kev needs to work on it.

Positives, Vaughan looked up for it, made it a different game when he came on. Hamilton linking up with Vaughan was good to see and Brown in midfield was a great addition. Would be good to see him and Matthews paired up.

As for the season, while we've faltered in the last few games and played our part in Dundee United pretty much guaranteeing the title is theirs, to be where we are after the mediocrity last season is a huge achievement. No matter what happens in the play-offs, its been a great season in all. Bodes well for next if we can strengthen and learn from the mistakes.
