Dunfermline's Next Permanent Manager
GazH6 replied to Ludo*1's topic in Scottish League 1 General Chatter
I accept your points on Murray. I’ve seen Airdrie a few times this season and they’ve impressed me. Full time would be the big question I’d ask of him. Failed before. Yes Thomson is highly regarded I think. Used to winning also but with a huge budget in the lowest league. Still can only beat what’s in front of you. McPake done the same although it was a different route but look what his opponents Hearts have achieved this season. listen there’s pro’s and con’s for all 3. -

No disrespect meant to Murray but Mcpake’s record is better than his. Murray was a disaster at a full time club. Still like Thomson but again he has managed at part time for one season. Maybe time to be a bit realistic. Saying that thomson will be a good manager in time. Mcpake has more experience than both at a higher level. Good or bad. -

This. I didn't want to appear negative but if I've got company, it's not so bad. Yet you dismiss mcpake without thought even though he has a promotion from our league. Liam will have learned a lot in the time he’s worked at hearts,Livingston and Dundee United. -

I get that but Nisbet chose Dunfermline’s offer over Dundee’s offer. Maybe suggests the Dundee budget wasn’t that much more than Dunfermline’s. -

I would counter argue that on two fronts. Kevin Thomson - Yeah had a big budget but also had a massive rebuild with Kelty coming into the league for the first time and it being Kevin’s first job. James McPake - Had Dundee Utd and Hearts in the Championship in the seasons they were in. First season the Pars paid a lot on wages also. They beat Dundee to signing of KN from us. Both done the job that was set out to do. Win promotion. -

He also got a team promoted quicker from said league than Alan Stubbs (who ever managed at all) and in the same time as Mark Warburton. Both who’s budgets far outweighed Dundee’s I’d imagine. -

Ian Murray has had 1 good season at Airdrie. Sacked at St mirren after winning 2 games at championship level. Jack Ross was the brains behind his job at Dumbarton. A massive no for me. -

Calm down Billy. If you’d have beat Dundee or stayed up before the play offs then KL wages would have accumulated to 6kpw (money well spent) over his time at the club through salary, signing on fee, staying up bonus, goal no use and appearance bonus. He came in February with the club in a bad position so 6k per week for 4 month works out at roughly 2k pw. I won’t tell you how I know but he was on the 6k for 4 months. -

Still got to win in. Rangers has a massive budget in the championship but hearts won it. And Rangers lost the play off to a Motherwell team who had a much inferior budget than Rangers. Rangers did win it the next season but Hibs whose budget dwarfed Falkirk’s who beat them in the playoff semi final. Falkirk went on to lose heavily to Kilmarnock in the play off final. I think your being unfair to kevin Thomson and James McPake. Thomson done the job. McPake done his job and got promotion despite Kilmarnock having a bigger budget than Dundee. Lafferty on 6k per week! Thomson has it wrapped up early, McPake found form when it really mattered. I’d like to see both as end management team. -

I couldn't care who Raith hire. I'm just saying that Thomson hasn't done anything of note yet so I wouldn't be overly excited as a Raith fan if he was your man. -

No doubt John McGlynn was a good coach and manager at The club yet he failed to get them to the premiership despite his great brand of football. In comparison to Thomson and McPake, he has more experience, that’s a given but he’s not had much success - Hear me out - Won 2nd division (just) which included without showing lack of respect - Brechin, Peterhead, East Fife and Peterhead Won League 1 - Again not a strong league like it was this season but he got the job done. A fife Cup and a Challenge cup so all in all he was a decent enough manager but not as great as some all feel. This is just my thoughts on John. Kevin Thomson - Yeah first year, huge budget but that carries its own weight and expectation and he won it easy. Top player and decent career, young and hungry - undoubtedly will win league 2 manager of the season and deserves it. James McPake - Got Dundee out of the Championship something Ian McCall hasn’t been able to do at any club and he comes under “experienced” . Reportedly had a high budget(yet Dundee posted a profit) but also had teams like Dun Utd and Hearts to deal with then a play off final against Kilmarnock(Alan Stubbs or Mark Warburton couldn’t get up via play Off’s) maybe shown he wasn’t ready for the premiership but who knows what would have happened had they stuck with him. - Won championship manager of the season ahead of Neilson and McGlynn (personally John should have got it for me) Both these have a heavy focus on youth development, something we need, it’s time to produce our own players. I would like to see one of these two aS long as they were given time to build, they played together at a few clubs so would they consider a joint managerial role? Just a thought -

Because it was an accomplishment any semi-competent manager could have achieved. Even Barry Ferguson was successful with them. He’s young, he had the big budget which brings it’s own pressure, got the job done. We need more young managers. Who would you prefer just out of interest? Gordon Dalziel? -

This is the type Raith should go for. Young, hungry but a drive to improve. The fact he got that interviews speaks volumes. Goodwin got Aberdeen (another Young manager) McPake got Dundee promoted ( linked with a few jobs after promotion also in Hibs and Burton I think) The difference between these 3 and Moloney and Glass is that they have managerial experience now and all 3 have a promotion. Raith won’t get Goodwin but just my belief of what type of managers should be given a chance instead of the old guard. -

Thomson and McPake out of all the candidates have won promotion recently. Thomson won the title in League 2, highly regarded at Rangers. McPake got Dundee out the league Raith want out, quicker than Stubbs(Hibs), Neilson(Dun Utd) and in the same time as Warburton managed at Rangers. Both a risk but look at the experienced John Hughes!!
