  1. Based on the comments about Smith in the press this week about how he needs to "grow" and fill out as well as be patient and earn his place in the team on the training ground. Also comments about "it's his first loan*. I wouldn't be shocked with Robinson continuing on the left of the three. Levein certainly wasn't talking up the prospect of Smith starting in the near term that's for sure!

I do wonder if Considine has been told can leave.

Club socials now saying Keltjens is signed on a deal until 2025? Wasn’t it initially announced as 6 months?

Yeah it was definitely announced till the end of the season at the time.

Just a guess but might have been something like he didn't want to sign longer until he knew for sure his family would get visas etc to come with him.

I actually think this could happen, Rudden and Paton up top together, doesn’t sound too bad.

Would take in a heartbeat if there was any genuine chance of it. More shocked he’s only 23, feel like he’s been around for ages

Good call. Does this mean Greg Stewart is still available?

No doubt some Saints fans will disagree and just shout "he was shite" but I've certainly seen worse at Saints in recent times. There's still worse getting a game! May being 1.

He'd often work hard and get on the end of things, time his run well etc. Then... He'd somehow miss 🤦‍♂️ again and again. Missed a couple of sitters away to Killie before the split that were especially memorable.

He was in the right places though unlike some others who provide zero goal threat.

Although I wasn't really wanting him to return after the loan either though 🤷‍♂️

I may be wrong but it seems to be poor sales. Loads of folk I know that would normally go are missing this one.

The weather will put some of the occasional away game goers off... Bloody part timers 😜

I seen the other day the McDiarmid bus wasn't sold out so I think that's a good indication there won't be LOADS going.

I think we had a home game against Dunfermline postponed for that last season but it’s very much a rarity. Forecast looks a bit warmer on Friday and Saturday as you say so fingers crossed it’s fine.

Strange game this, probably a draw neither team were too excited about. We have a very good home record, particularly  against Premiership teams recently, comfortably beating Motherwell and St. Mirren in the last couple of years with a narrow win over Dundee and an extra-time defeat to Ross County this season too. St. Johnstone have improved under Levein but seem to have had a pretty poor cup record since winning the double.

Hopefully Megwa is back with us for this game. We can get by without him but it does mean McCabe dropping back or ATS coming back in for the first time in about six weeks, neither of which are ideal. Can’t say I’m confident we’ll win but we’re on a good run at the moment so I’m expecting a tough game.

    Cheers!

Hope it does go ahead of course. Midweek rearrangements are a pain! We had one years ago against Albion Rovers that I think was postponed 3 times 😣

In terms of draws I think mostly Saints fans were happy with it. As it was a draw against someone we've not played against in years. Change of scenery and all that!

While I obviously don't follow any other clubs results over closely but since the draw I've noticed you've been in good form 👏

Cup form especially in the Scottish Cup since the double has been rubbish, I don't think we've one a single tie since 🤣.

  6. Have Airdrie had any Livi type issues with the pitch in the cold weather?

-5 with plenty rain to freeze solid forecast for next week. Not sure much can be done to stop it freezing either...

It's meant to thaw a bit come through weekend though...

That's what's held us back for the last 3 seasons. That and having clowns in charge so hopefully there's something approaching a strategy in place now.

I don't disagree with you but after the clowns lost us a fortune I can see us looking to be even more prudent. At least while in relegation contention, for the next few years at least. With pre contracts anyway.

Yes, I think we can offer him a PCA and because it is cross border I don't think we'd be due them a development fee. Even of we were, you could agree with Wigan a % of future sale in return for no fee now, like we did with AIK.

Could there be a situation with both Montgomery and Robinson in the same team? Robinson LCB and Montgomery LWB? Don't think we will get Montgomery again, but you never know.....

We would be due then a development fee if they made an effort to keep him, by offering him a new deal etc.

Can't see that happening though as Maloney evidently doesn't fancy him.

Only thing thats likely to change that is if Maloney gets punted (although don't think he's under pressure of that at the moment).

    We should tell Wigan no.

He was decent for us and I’d like to see him back here; but let’s be honest, Wigan were happy to take him back early and f**k us over, and you should never ever miss out on the opportunity to be petty and small minded in situations like this.

Why would we penalise ourselves? If we don't take him someone else will.

He'll leave Wigan when his contract expires in the summer.

So what's Montgomery like as we are apparently signing him?

With Saints he started slowly but grow into it the more he played. The confidence grew as he probably got fitter and fitter.

Quick feet and would drift past people when he was confident. Very one footed though. Was fairly composed in the final third. Unlikely in wide areas to be firing in dangerous crosses regularly like a winger type might though.

Physically he isn't the best as he's fairly small but plenty of offer.

Defensively again, he got better but had a habit of just not closing down the man urgently or closely enough out wide resulting in it being far to easy to deliver the ball into the box. Think it lead to a few goals.

See Adam Montgomery has been recalled to Celtic. Wonder if he will be considered, I would

Fits in ideally in my opinion anyway in how the management seems to want the wing backs to play.

Based on what I've seen so far the management don't really look for winger types at wing back who power forward (Like Rooney) and more players capable of playing under pressure and being more controlled in possession. That's why we've seen Phillips and Franzck playing there - although some of that will be down to the other fit wing back alternatives haven't been good enough.

Montgomery isn't slow and can overlap etc but he certainly fits more into that tidy in possession than athletic winger type wing back.
