  1. I understand the ifs and bits of something like that happening, but believe it would lead to a more competitive association. If not my proposal then something else? Current set up has led to teams like Harp, Violet, Blairgowrie etc having nothing to play for for most of the season - and it shows
  2. I took in Broughty 7-0 Harp with the home side every bit worth their large victory. Watching it with the gulf between the sides so large raised the old topic of league restructuring in my head again - how can the association get a structure which gives more meaningful and competitive matches, as with the current structure teams like Lochee Harp have, to be frank, nothing to play for all season. With the current 20 sides, next season I would create 2 x 10 team leagues (based on finishing positions this season). As this would only give each side 18 league games, relegation/promotion playoff mini leagues (similar to in Belgium) can be played after regular season games to ensure most games are competitive and something at stake. 2 or 3 teams up/down at the end of it. A new League Cup made up of 4 x 5 team groups can be created with top 2 from each going through to a last 8 knockout. Sadly I'm not anticipating any drastic changes like this for next season, but it would certainly give the current bottom 12/14 teams plenty to play for - something they simply don't have in status quo.
  3. Took in East Craigie v Broughty Ath yesterday which finished 0-1. Goal came midway through the first half from Fraser with McNaughton of EC having a penalty saved in first half injury time. Not alot of other clear cut goalscoring chances in the match. Broughty on the whole looked the better team and more organised, ultimately deserving of the 3 points. Mudie is a great capture for Broughty at the back on loan from Brechin and in my opinion the best CB in the league Have seen each of the Top 4/5 sides on a few occasions so far this season and envisage the current Top 2 battling it out for the title right to the end.
  4. Was at the game as a neutral and Joyce's red card decision was possibly one of the worst I've ever seen from a referee. He was clearly trying to play a quick crossfield ball (downwind) and unfortunately hit the retreating opponent in the back of the napper. It could've easily been diffused without any card. Carnoustie despite being 2-1 down at the time were probably in the ascendency so who knows how the game would've ended up had they kept 11 on the park. I was a bit disappointed with Carnoustie on the whole and expected more from them. They appear to have regressed a bit since I last seen them at the tail end of their league winning campaign last season.
  5. Some good match ups tonight. I am off up to Thomson Park for Lochee Utd v Kirrie - have seen the away side a couple of times this season and they'll be up for it for sure. Hard to predict which version of the home side will show up given recent form. North End v East Craigie and Broughty v Downfield look good match ups on paper. Seen Downfield pre season dismantle Turriff Utd and were a shade unlucky to not get a point against Kirrie a fortnight ago. Will be interesting to see how Letham get on at home to Tayport. It should be a bit of an acid test for both sides given recent good form.
