  1. Absolute farce from the SFA!

They have a deadline, knew it wasn’t licensed by then and knew that they didn’t apply for a period of grace by 31st March.

Buckie may have made an error, but the sheer incompetence is with the SFA who should have announced this the very next day!

It literally reads like they’ve only just discovered this loophole!

    What an absolute shambles!

Tempted to make a first visit to Raydale on Saturday for my football fix.

I've already ordered tickets online for this - can't wait!  Will also have one eye on the Highland League battle whilst down there.

  3.

MacKenzie Kirk in spite of leaving in mid season almost has to make the team.  Cammy Ross also been outstanding particularly in the cup game against East Kilbride.  John Robertson surely belongs in this company up front too.

Saw Sean Fagan at Albion before his move to EK and he was a real stand out.

  4. Jumping the gun here by a few weeks, but which players would you have making up the team of the season.

Feel free just to nominate players from your own team if its too much a challenge to form an all star 11.

Stoneyburn FC's £115k pitch 'ready in June' with 'free' offer to local groups - Daily Record

Stoneyburn FC hope to have a new £115,000 3G nine-a-side pitch behind their ground in place by the end of June that will be free to all community groups.

    0_AMR_HAM_STONEYBURN_01jpeg.jpg

Committee member Alan Watson reckons the mental health boost to the West Lothian village will be huge, since RAAC has forced closure of the community centre. Watson says Stoneyburn last had a five-a-side synthetic surface laid at their Beechwood Park ground 27 years ago, which has long since been out of bounds for safety reasons. But funding from groups including the Scottish FA, Leavenseat Trust and West Lothian Development Trust means construction work on the surface behind their 11-a-side grass pitch can begin in March.

Watson says both schools, the nursery, MOOD mental health group and any other community organisation would be able to use the pitch for free. Other groups, or recreational things like five-a-side teams, will have to hire the pitch, but Watson says they will charge less than any other facility in surrounding areas.

Brilliant to see a venture such as this that will benefit the entire community, particularly with some of these listed very worthy groups getting access for free.

Took in tonight's game as a neutral - was bitterly disappointed in Lochee Utd.  Just seemed so incredibly lacklustre from start to finish in a match that should have meant so much.........not to take anything away from Broughty who scored 3 without reply, 2 of which were sublime.

Have to say one or two of their coaches didn't help - we were over that side of the ground and they were bouncing up and down for 90 solid minutes contesting every single decision - there's a time and a place for that if you're picking your battles, but very little evidence of supporting a struggling team (on the night anyway) with any real substance or tactical guidance.

Hopefully it's just a bad day at the office - can't be too harsh on an otherwise superb season, just strange timing to not appear to be up for the fight.

  7. According to Stoneyburn's twitter feed, a 3G pitch is set to be installed at Beechwood Park.

A welcome addition - whilst clubs like Lochgelly in EOS 3rd division have played 21 games, Stoneyburn have played the fewest league fixtures with just 14.

They have had 6 home league postponements alone thus far this season - 5th Aug (Linton), 7th Oct (Pumpherston), 21st Oct (Hawick), 30th Dec (W Calder), 20th Jan (Linton), and 24th Feb (Livingston).

Agreed, What a massive result for Letham beating the best team in the north.👏

As for the the next round they couldn't have got a tougher draw as its Lochee Utd in the 1/4 finals.

What's the full draw for the quarters?

Saturday 16th March is free for both, and so is 20th April. That's the final day of the Highland League season so in theory the Midlands champion should be decided on that date if there is to be an immediate play-off v HL club 18 on the next two Saturdays (or maybe it gets delayed if either league runs over). That's 25 Wed/Sat matchdays to play Lochee's 18 league + Junior Cup + Inter-regional + East Region cup ties.

Lochee Utd v Broughty Ath set for Wed 28th Feb at 19:30.  Should be a cracker and can't wait to attend!

Noticed a poll currently running on FitbaNorth where 60% of fans are against having artificial turf in HL.

Depressing stat HJ that's probably the bi-product of an ill informed media within our footballing community, including some ex players.

The often quoted misconception that they've 'never seen a good game on 3G'  What utter tosh!  Maybe if they watched games outwith the top flight, particularly in the non leagues, then they may form a different opinion.

I accept the surfaces aren't always easy on the eye at times on tv and not ideal to have them in the top flight in general, but at this level they are invaluable and fans really need to learn to appreciate all the benefits they bring.

    Excellent, thanks for this.

Here's hoping they both go toe to toe till the end to set up a grand stand finish inc potential play off.

Do you know if there is a realistic timeframe as to when the two matches v Broughty will at least be announced to be played?

Nearly 6 weeks since I posed this question and still absolutely nothing from the Midlands League.

Looking like a midweek March date at the earliest for the first Lochee Broughty game.  And who knows re the second.

Can't believe Buckie are being written off here when they could go top if they win games in hand.  Even if they drop a few points they'll be very close to Brechin

Not sure I'm seeing much evidence, if indeed any, of Buckie being written off as such.

I literally said I had them as winning the league - and indeed that they still might, but I feared for them now due to the amount of games in hand.

Yes The scarf thought it might be Brechin's to lose but only because he too realised, quite correctly, that there were so many games in hand.

Look it may well happen, I've seen it a couple of times with Auchinleck Talbot who often had so many games in hand in the past primarily due to their cup successes and the like, so it can be done.

However, and I appreciate this is very anecdotal, but a neighbour of mine recently gave up playing non league football in is early 30's having played at a very good level for many years.  Why?  Literally because his calves couldn't take the backlog in the second half of the season - the constant strain of the Saturday/midweek cycle for around three months meant he couldn't go on.

This is what Buckie face now.  It would be an outstanding achievement if they went on to win the league, and again as I've said, it may very well happen.  But fearing that the vast amount of games in hand would likely take its toll is hardly the same as writing Buckie off - it's simply highlighting a realistic concern.

Incidentally, with all of the shenanigans in recent seasons of certain League 2 clubs attempting to curtail promotion for tier 5 sides combined with Brechin trying to gain access to the Lowland League, I suspect there wont be too many glum faces (outwith of Brechin itself) if Buckie do indeed go on to win the league.

You're very welcome to join the party if that is indeed what materialises.

Brechin just chugging along nicely whilst their rivals rack up the postponements and fixture backlog.  Surely it's their title even at this stage.

My sentiments exactly.  I suspect Buckie may have won the league (and still might) but all these games in hand are almost certain to take their toll.

Also predicting Brora to finish 4th behind BOD once they've caught up with all their games in hand - round about the same time as the A9 dualling concludes!

Excellent informative graphic, he says much belatedly.

Well aware of that but there's nothing in those that look like mission impossible for most clubs that want to build for promotion any more than installing a set of floodlights was a few years back. If they had been trying to end the Club 42 playoff as an annual event they could have upped the ante to 500 covered seats and adjusted the field dimensions to 100m by 64m. The latter would be difficult to fit inside the stock car track at Central Park, so it's not just former junior clubs that have reasons to worry about what they might do on this in future.

Hope you've not inadvertently given the top beaks some ideas for their next license upgrade lol.

At some point, questions are going to have to be asked of certain clubs who are clearly making no provision for making sure they can get games on by looking after their pitches while at the same time ploughing fucking tons of loot into their first team. Not namBRORAing any naBUCKIEmes or anything, but fucking hell boys, get your act together.

I know it's not the preference of players, but at some point the Highland League (and their Local Councils, where applicable) are going to have to learn to embrace 3G surfaces.

Great for the community and helping ensure games go ahead in inclement weather.

  18.

Is there any talk in Broughty Ferry of the club potentially going for a license in order to participate in the play offs?

I know stadium improvements aren't necessarily the be all and end all, but usually floodlights etc are one of the biggest barriers (finance wise) to acquiring a license.  With it a being a new floodlit ground I was hopeful that the club were being very proactive this year with a view to getting all paperwork etc in order.

If not, here's hoping Lochee Utd can pip them to the title and then the inevitable annihilation against a vey much overmatched Strathspey in the play-off.

The club has been mismanaged for a number of years and although the fans moan about it they voted the the chairman back in which is ridiculous as he is responsible for this shitshow. The moral amongst the players will be low as its human nature and unless you are offering players a lot of money to sign in January why on earth would you join clyde with the  certain guarantee  of relegation and the damage it would do to your career. The club and the board  is a total embarrassment to be honest. I personally think its between us and Elgin to go down and Elgin have this fight every season and they will be more experienced in this fight.

So there's a "certain guarantee of relegation", which there obviously isn't, but it's clear that's your very strong held belief.

Or is it?  As two sentences later you've changed your whole belief of guaranteed relegation to "I personally think it's between us and Elgin to go down".

So which of your polar opposite viewpoints was the truth, and which was the lie?  And how can it change so drastically within the same paragraph?  Genuinely curious.

I won't lie and say the B team is arguably benefiting us, but I'm not comfortable with it being to the detriment of the rest of Scottish football. I'd rather we took ourselves out of it tbqh. Maybe that would force Celtic to go anaw and then it's a 'well nobody wants to play anyway' so let's remove it.

I also don't get how the SFA can just say it's 16 teams and that's that for the league. The highland is 18 is it not? It's arbitrary nonsense and the league can be as fucking many as they want if they vote for it. I honestly find it amazing the league haven't pushed back on this.

I hate hoping for relegated teams, but if the Highland league winner were to win this year, and a Clyde /Forfar/East Fife come down that would be just grand from a lowland league perspective as the two teams at bottom could finally be flushed down to their level.

I also don't like the idea of using spfl2 as an excuse not to have more relegation. Be the example and open it up to follow rather than 'aye what about them'. When is the next chance for a vote on that? Can it just be called?

Surely Forfar would be Highland bound?
