  1. I did my once a month plunge on a new band today ( at least new for an auld codger ). Bought the Zutons ( on the recommendation of my 10 year old ).

I have been pleasantly surprised. Its damned good. Completely ripping of a few late 60's early 70's bands ( the guitarist seems to have a bit of a Jimmy Page thing about him ) - but if you are ripping of decent band, you 're bound to sound ok yourself.

If you've got a spare tenner you could do a lot worse.

  2. Rachel Hunter.................Sorry , can't see what the attraction is!

I know you are one of P&B's fellow seniors - but I reckon you could benefit a lot from a quick visit to Specsavers. After years of asking old ladies what number was on the front of the approaching bus, it made a huge difference to my life.

  3. Aye OK, but you get my point.

99.9% of all music is ripped off.

And as you say sometimes the "real" artists do not get the credit they deserve, like your point with Hank Williams.

Today in my car CD changer I have

    The Specials - Stereo-Typical - Volume 1

    Bob Marley - Legend

Roger Taylor - Fun In Space

Monty Python - Monty Python Sings

Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine

    The Beatles - One

Now thats diverse and not tunnel visionist ;)

And at the moment I am listening to Faith No More - Easy! B)

Bairnagain - I have JrGong ( aka Damien Marley ) in mine at the moment. I know that Bob has dozens of offspring who have attempted to make it on the back of his good name. But Jr Gong has gone the other way, by trying to make it on his own under a nom de plume - and its like listening to the man himself reincarnate.

  4. Bloody Hell, P&B are you even older than me?

I thought I had the "Oldest Poster" title wrapped up!

Back to topic - Give me Hope Jo'anna - Eddy Grant!

I wasn't around in the 40's, or even ths 50's for that matter. I just have a diverse taste in music. I current have Jr Gong, Joss Stone, Burt Bacharach, Rory Gallagher, FLC & Syds Floyd on the CD changer.

I'm not into following genres. If I like it - I like it.

BTW - If you have the oldest poster wrapped up, is that a self portrait on the avatar?

  5. I agree, the only original artists have been Bill Hayley, The Beatles (maybe The Stones), The Kinks, The Sex Pistols, Spandau Ballet and Oasis. The rest have all been rip off merchants

(pulls pin out of grenade and disappears quickly)

    What about Hank Williams?

If you listen to Rock Around The Clock, the riff is a straight rip off of a Hank Williams track ( Move It On Over ) which I think was written in the mid forties.

  6. not as good as The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett

An Effervessing Elephant With tiny eyes and great big trunk

once whispered to the tiny ear, the ear of one in fear you hear

that by next June he'd die

    Oh Yeh!

And the tiger would roam the little one said

"Oh my goodness I must stay at home!

And every time I hear a growl,

I'll know the tiger's on the prowl

And I'll be really safe, you know, the elephant, he told me so."

    Everyone was nervous,

    Oh yeah!

    And the message was spread

to zebra, mongoose and the dirty hippopotamus

who wallowed in the mud and chewed his spicy hippo-plankton food

and tended to ignore the word referring to a survey I heard

    of stupid water bison

    Oh yeah!

And all the jungle took fright and ran around for all the day and the night, But all in vain because, you see, the tiger came and said,

"Who me? You know I wouldn't hurt not one of you

I much prefer something to chew, and you're all too scant."

    Oh yeah! ................

    He ate the elephant!!

  7. An OLD tape of Rory Gallagher..If anyone can recall!!

Coincidence or what? Listening to Live Taste. The Same Old Story.

I have to confess that I sold out a couple of years ago & "upgraded" my vinyl to CD.
