  1. It would be great to have McCall stay on and all that optimism and good work carried on into next season. But it he goes, I don't think it is a disaster either. I have a suspicion Clyde will be challenging at the top end next season, although that's far from a sure thing. I'm not against a new manager coming in because, I've mentioned before, I'm quite comfortable to trust Allan Maitland to make a competent decision. With everything that has gone on the last few years, I would have no objection to a comfortable mid-table finish and playoff challenge for a couple of seasons. Keep things calm and get the house in order. If the financial backing is there in the medium term then do things properly, as sustainable as possible for the future - i.e. bridging the gap until the club has a stadium to call our own. I don't see a need to rush anything now that there is a degree of confidence we shouldn't see a repeat of this season, at least.
  2. I thought yesterday was by far Ballantyne's best game. I agree he has hardly set the heather alight, but I find it hard to be overly critical of any of the players that arrived in January or later. It will be interesting to see these guys in a team that isn't playing the proverbial 'cup final' every week, when every mistake, or lost game is magnified a thousand times as we kept thinking every defeat was the end of the club. Everyone that came in after the New Year has contributed in some way. Even Kabia contributed something with the vital turnaround against Elgin at NDP. Don't think McCall has made a secret of the fact the team was cobbled together with whoever they could find. A full summer to have a go at it is actually quite and exciting prospect. What's done now is done and there's a lot to be optimistic about. McCall was a good appointment and 9th seems to be enough to secure the financial backing of the generous supporter. Who knows? We could be sitting here next year having enjoyed a promotion push and looking forward to a new ground. Whether McCall stays (I think I would prefer he did despite some questionable decisions in the last few months) or goes, I think there's a feeling about the club with Allan Maitland that it will not reach the depths of this year. I'm in the strange position where I now have trust in the club to do what is right and not make utterly horrific decisions. Whilst picking this season to pieces is neutral, the outlook now is incredibly different to how it was in after Brian left. In terms of players, I hope some players may be tempted to stay after seeing what a good day with Clyde and the supporters looks like.
  3. There are varying factors but this is the one that seals it for me. I live fairly locally to K-Park and have been along quite a few times over the years. Each game has the feeling of a crowd made up of friends and family. You hardly go to the Town Centre or Calderglen and see the place awash with kids in EK tops. It was a few years ago now, but I went along when they drew with St Mirren and won on penalties in the League Cup groups. Maybe not the most important result in terms singular significance, but for the club it was an incredible result. It just seemed like nobody there cared one bit.
  4. I hope those responsible are brought to justice.
  5. Fantastic. What a day. Superb fall off the wall after Scullion's first for someone, too.
  6. Despite being relatively assured Clyde would get out of this, probably denial, I just have this overwhelming feeling I'll be watching something that I think will be fine suddenly not be fine. This is the image playing in my head rather than Clyde turning up and putting this mess to bed for a summer with a competent win.
  7. Genuinely painful that there will be those out there delighted with the Coventry decision. As mentioned, that's VAR in a nutshell. Surely this isn't what people want football to be? Tragic.
  8. For large parts of that, you could be forgiven for thinking it was a dead rubber for both teams. Similar to Dumbarton, urgency was only shown after going behind. The last twenty minutes is what should've been happening for the full second half. Deciding to make an effort to win the game with time running is not a great approach. It was actually fairly comical for me that Kabia hadn't even reached the stand by the time his replacement had created a goal. I'm concerned by the apparent lack of concern on the pitch. It's a well trodden path to discuss 'leaders', 'fighters' etc. but that's obviously lacking on the park. It's not too unexpected with his this side has been cobbled together this season, but it is noticeable. Probably should have won. Another two trademark Clyde goals conceded. Great save at the end, but really need to impose upon teams far earlier than McCall seems to approve of.
  9. This evening was a new low and that's saying something. Michael Stewart should chuck it as he obviously hates doing it. Heard him going through the teams at Fir Park. My brother summed it up nicely by saying it was as if the was reading the teams whilst trying to watch the TV at the same time. It is near unlistenable now. The constant strive for 'debate' is excruciating.
  10. Nothing to do with the result, but have I missed a change in what's acceptable as a throw in?
  11. Terrible performance and questionable managerial decisions. Still, it's impossible to use today to draw any conclusions about whether or not Clyde are getting out of this.
  12. If the definition of madness is doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result then everyone on that pitch today is insane. Why Clyde watched Dumbarton the first half and decided to do the same thing was on the distressing side. Clyde got further up the pitch and at least gave Dumbarton something to defend after going behind and that's what should have been happening from half time That aside, not sure there's really any meaningful footballing assessment to be made in something that was not really a football match or conclusions that can be drawn for going into the last fixtures. But, for the life of me, I cannot understand McCall's approach to the game. I would absolutely love to hear the logic behind bringing Euan Cameron on. The performance in the second half was baffling. The seeming lack of desire to make any attempt at scoring was curious to say the least. For what it's worth, I thought Jordan Allan was offside as well. Cuddihy played the second pass too quickly after the first one was blocked that Allan had been chasing with Allan still behind the defence.
  13. How's the game holding up in the weather? Nightmare watching the scores app.
  14. Good to hear, but some kind of change? It is completely incompatible with the game. No change will ever make it work. I just wish someone would admit it's pish so we can go back to the previous imperfect, but more fun, football.
  15. Nice to see a big improvement in Kabia today, but that was a horrible end to the game. McHale's header in slow motion for me. Two six-pointers featuring a goal from the opposition's half and a goalkeeper scoring in injury time might have been too much for me to take. Glad that was over and that Elgin team today was far from the worst I've seen this season. Very much hope Clyde don't need to rely on getting a result up there on the final day.
  16. The calamity of losing twice to Bonnyrigg still irks me, especially with the difference the points swing would make now. They've won three games since October and definitely the team I fancy the chances of catching if I had to take a punt at it.
  17. This is the most certain away win in the history of football. I'm trying to remind myself this Clyde team can actually play but, as mentioned, the complete reluctance to even turn up for the six-pointers, never mind win them, is far more overpowering.
  18. 24 years later and I still get upset with my dad's decision that morning not to go. The 4-3 Stenny game was the same day Hearts came from 2-0 to win 3-2 at Parkhead. Would like to have known the odds on two away wins when Celtic were two up and Stenny three. It'll take me sometime to get over missing yesterday. Not that I'm overreacting but I might have to consider punting the kids to ensure it never happens again.
  19. Considering how acceptable it is to ditch the afternoon segment of a stag do on Saturday to see the Galacticos take to the field at Ainslie Park.
  20. Very interesting to see who arrival two is. I do like a wild rumour so Nathan McGinley is one I would very much like to blindly support.
  21. Good weekend of cup football and complete removal from the world of VAR and what a joy it was. Barely into the Celtic game and the first ridiculous VAR stoppage strikes. It is just so sad that the obvious solution is in everyone's face but it won't change.
  22. Maybe a decent enough outcome tonight for both sides. Aberdeen didn't get another shock and Clyde continued to show signs of improvement generally. I feared the worst when I saw the Clyde line up, however that performance tonight was organised, largely competent within the realistic game parameters, and resembled an actual football team playing a far better side but managing it well enough to not get embarrassed - all this with only one non-McLean 'era' player (maybe two if we include the return of Ray Grant). Almost glad just to get the cup out the way and get league games to try get this deficit reduced.
  23. Those two goals were particularly annoying as Clyde completely controlled that game. Even the second half was managed and dictated and it did not look like there was any danger of Bonnyrigg scoring. I don't think Bonnyrigg created a single decent chance until the save Leighfield had at the near post when it was 3-1. Everyone was excellent whilst looking very at ease. Scullion was excellent as was Young. I was just struck by how significantly better a side Clyde looked than Bonnyrigg. Haven't seen Clyde be significantly better than anyone for a long time. Big month coming up but this looked like a decent team playing well rather than a flash in the pan result. Time will tell rather that's accurate or not.
  24. That game sometimes pops into my head. Absolutely remarkable how bad he was.
  25. More than happy to get on board with this.
