  1. The best finisher in that stadium was sat in the crowd; Mr John Barnes. Some player.  Thankfully, Diaz showed a bit of quality.  Arsenal look like a side you can get at, to me.  Once they started moaning at the ref, I started to cheer up. I'd be disappointed with my keeper for that first goal.  I'd want him clearing folk out, to try and take a catch.  We'll done to the young subs.

Pretty shite game lastnight. Brighton will be kicking themselves though having not managed to break West Ham down once they decided not to bother crossing half way line, in a home game, for what seemed like the entire second half.

I tend to watch Brighton mostly to watch Gilmour although they are a good watch anyway, but I think lastnight it was noticeable, sometimes for Scotland we talk about playing him in backs to the wall games as someone who can retain what possession we have, but I'd say he was far more influential on the match once the game was being played in West Hams half. Not to say he was anonymous first half, but he wasnt dictating things.

I really enjoy Billy Gilmour's pass and move football,  I thought Chelsea messed him about and was pretty disgusted with the way he was treated by some Norwich fans.  McGregor, Gilmour and McGinn in midfield together are a decent blend, because they all have a good awareness of space.  I think the role Gilmour plays is probably more appreciated by other Premier League players, than fans e.g. Michael Carrick.  He could probably play a lot more of an attacking game for Brighton, but managers love players who can help their teammates out out when they are being pressed.

My BCFC-supporting mates often sign-off messages with KRO and I have heard it sung at every game I have been to, with them.  One mate says he prefers when it starts off slow and builds up, like a rumble.  They do KRO; knowing they could not keep Jude Bellingham, former owner in the clink, ground needed works, Villa resurgent and now this latest Rooney fiasco.  All part of the madness that is English football in 2024.

Ooft!  Public enemy number one in our family.  Me for his Crystal Palace FA Cup semi-final goal.  My mum for him  saying that his West Ham side had given Everton a footballing lesson, at Goodison.  Dear me.

Newcastle, like Man Utd recently, win toss and make Liverpool hit the other way to their preferred ends. When was the last time anyone did this at Celtic Park or Ibrox? It almost never happens. It's almost like it's an unwritten rule.  To answer my own question, I believe it was Motherwell in 21/22.

The flipside is that it's tradition for Liverpool fans to clap the opposition goalkeeper, as he takes up position in that Kop End goal.  This can sometimes result in them having a worldie and, like tonight, making a potentially crucial penalty save.  I still like the tradition, though.

Saw them earlier in year at the Ferry....No Akkerman ,however, young Guitarist was ace as was big Thijs Van Leer and Pierre Van Der Linden from early line ups ...possibly my gig highlight of the year ...a few shouts of "Mone Jags" when Sylvia was played !!

Excellent.  Good to know, thanks.  I have had House of the King popping into my head over the past few weeks, which has been surprisingly enjoyable.  I think Sylvia live will be worth waiting for.

  7. I have been back at work between Christmas and New Year and cheered myself up by listening to the Big Bash, on 5 Sports Extra.  Discussions included the relative attractiveness of players, Australian hairstyles and spectator injuries when taking a catch in the crowd.  It sounds a good night out, with the usual assortment of piledriver shots and dropped catches.

If you have an hour to spare and fancy getting an Australian perspective, then the ABC Grandstand Cricket Podcast is a decent listen.  ABC Radio is easy enough to find the link to.

  8. Frustrating viewing.  Getting caught cold within 20 seconds is disappointing and it was pleasing to at least get back into the game.  One of those days where everyone couldn't get on the same wavelength near the opposition box, to get the winner.

I always enjoyed watching Big Duncan at it against Manchester United and hoped he'd be declared unfit for the Merseyside derby!  He was really good with the community work, which I hope ICT can utilise.   Some nice play on the deck, particularly from David Wotherspoon, shows he is not going Dogs of War and it will be interesting seeing what he can do.

It's a point, so will take it and hope that the big occassion on Friday sees us raising our game.

To be fair this new ground is a shite excuse for a fitba stadium.
I miss the old Boleyn ground. It was brilliant for atmosphere - especially the chicken run back in the 80s when Macca and Cottee were playing for the Hammers.
Even when the crowds were much lower it was still an incredible atmosphere.

I could walk to the new ground and never bothered going there.  The old ground was great, with the fans right on top of the pitch. However, my last memory of it is sitting with some mates from work and being surrounded by West Ham fans celebrating knocking Liverpool out of the FA Cup.  Cottee was a good player so no idea why he went to Everton!

Every trick in The Handbook of Shiftfesting was employed by our favourites last night. I don't think I've ever seen such a negative performance by a QP side and after 95 minutes I was perfectly fine with that. The effort and application of the players was night and day compared to the last Hampden performance against Inverness when I came away with the impression that not everyone had given of their best . This time round there was a totally different attitude and well done to the coaching staff for getting that out of the players.

Another plus was that there were no crazy substitutions to give game time to players who are not ready for this level. The priority was what it should have been all season - get a result. One look at the bench shows how poor our summer transfer business was and I get the feeling that until reinforcements arrive we're going to be reliant on the starting eleven of last night.

So despite the appalling anti football used I came away with some hope that we can dig our way out of the hole we've made for ourselves. I doubt if the BBC will be back though.

I thought it was smart coaching and application.  I did not see too much launching it, until the end. It looked like a plan designed so that even if Queen's Park lost the cleared ball, they were close enough to get a tackle or "tactical" foul in.  Maybe anti-TV entertainment, but I have seen far more hoofing and far less on the deck.  Great point, in my book.

  11. Wanting to visit Hampden Park, I watched the game against Morton a few months ago.  There are definite signs of improvement from Queen's Park.  This one was a game for the purist, though.  When you are struggling, the temptation is to resort to ale house football.  However, there was improved organisation and at least an intention to try and play a bit from the home side.   If managing a football team was just about having the biggest budget, we could all do it.  Now's the time for both coaches to earn their corn.
